I don’t think these shoes match the bikinis. Is anyone else bothered by this?

Yes.

It’d be better if they just shucked the bikinis and kept the shoes on.[/quote]

I suppose that’s one solution.

Actually: the shoes pick up the neutral color in each corresponding bikini (black or white), and coordinate perfectly well.

White is not neutral, particularly when paired as an accent with red. It’s meant to “pop.” They may coordinate if by “coordinate” we mean “have some relationship to a color found in the respective suit,” but personally I have a higher standard.

Hey, I don’t make the rules.

Do non-gay men in cities actually pay attention to women’s fashion? Or is it just other women?

I have no idea what non-gay men in cities pay attention to! I know that my boyfriend is highly interested in what women (what I) wear. I think it’s bullshit that women dress for each other (cf. lesbians). I had a beach weekend with a bunch of girlfriends a couple of weeks ago and we were in sweatshirts. If I dress with other (familiar) women in mind it is generally with an eye toward minimizing competition, as with the beach weekend. If I’m out with a man I probably want to be the sexiest or best dressed woman there, but in everyone’s eyes, not just women’s.

Edit…that said, I don’t dress to my boyfriend’s tastes entirely because I know other women (and probably men, I don’t know) would judge me in ways that I’m not prepared to deal with. One keeps one’s sexuality on the DL if one wants to be taken seriously in one’s community.

Jeep, bikini, and sky-high heels; and the shoe color needs to be subdued? This would be easier to believe if the bikini were replaced by a conservatively-cut dress in the same color scheme, and the heels were a little bit lower.

Right, what’s hard to believe is not that the shoe/other-clothing colors combination can be more subtle. What’s hard to believe is that there is any point in the color scheme being more subtle, considering the combination of minimal clothing with high heels.
