Arnold for Governor..

For those of you who are arguing that Arnold has no political experience, I believe that you are incorrect. Most of what he has done has been behind the scenes. He worked his way up and down the state to get his after school initiative passed, and has done a lot of grass-roots stuff that doesn’t make it onto the news. All style and no substance? I think not.

what state is Carl Weathers going to be governor of?

Anyone see Jimmy Kimmel last night? Man he roasted Arnold and had some pretty funny clips…

Anyone watch Arnold on the today show today?

This guy has no clue about issues in California. Maybe if he studied up for a couple years, but it is obvious he is very behind in the experience race.

He’s a novelty, a t-shirt for christsakes - the 5th largest economy in the world, you need someting more than a grassroots activist or the presidents advisor on the national physical fitness campaign.

Gray Davis shouldn’t be recalled, pure and simple, it’s just sour grapes and blaming him for a lot of issues he didn’t create and has no control over. He may suck as governor, but California elected him, you can’t just take that back.

Welcome to a direct democracy. As soon as the majority change their minds, they want new leaders, convieniently forgetting who chose them in the first place. Anyone else read “Tides of War” by Pressfield? Deals with a lot of this.

haha, and about the porn movie, there actually is a porn star running too.

Right now, the ballot holds about 150 potential candidates. This is the most retarded thing I have ever seen.

You can just take that back. That is what a recall is for.

I think it’s a real possibility that the sheer number of candidates will cause people to vote against the recall. When presented with too many choices, people often stick to the status quo. The problem is that people are going to stay away in droves. Who knows what that’s going to mean.

On Arnold’s grassroots experience with the proposition that passsed last year: it was one of those things that sounded good until you dug deeper. With the economy in its current state, the thing may never even kick in. If it does, it will rob money from more important programs. I’m sure he believed in the concept. Most people did. But he was a figurehead in the same way he was with the President’s Council on Fitness.

doogie: yes, there exists the possiblity for a recall. But his is unprecedented, that a Governor is being recalled (funded privately, by the way) for simply being not liked. In the course of American political history, you “recall” an unpopular politican at election time. Something as drastic, expensive, and unprecedented as THIS recall should be saved for times when a governor commits a crime.

Whats next? Recall the recalled candidate? Any jackass millionaire can now pay people to get petitions signed and recall an unpopular political figure - this does not bode well for tough decision making in government. If the “can of worms” is opened here, politicans are going to be even BIGGER pussies than they already are, with the constant threat of recall votes hanging over them.

The govenor desn’t Make or break a state, but he is the single most powerful person when it comes to the way things are going. He is responsible for LEADING the rest of the government, MAKING them work harder and get better results. When a corporation isn’t doing well do they fire a thousand of the lower level employees? do they sit there and do nothing hoping the current CEO will get his shit straight? hell no the fire the bastard! Any one that can have the highest seat of power over an entity and claim it wasn’t their fault that it is now in dire staights is a flat out pussy! Gary Davis is certainly no T-Man and Arnold is the closest thing to a T-man running so just by you all being on this forum and having made the T-man pledge, there should be no disagreement over this. If ya ask me Tim Patterson should run the damn state!

Timbo For President 2008!!! :wink:

Anyone who doubts Arnolds abilities and drive…running the state or anything else…is a dipshit! In fact…anyone against Arnolds run is a dipshit anyway! Get a life and get the F*** out of bodybuilding and off this site!!

Vegita…

so any governor, or politican for that matter, who is presiding over a state with economic difficulties should be pitched out of office? Undoing valid elections without evidence of fraud or illegal activity?

And someone should be elected to run one of the world’s largest economies on the basis of being a “T-Man?” I hope you’re not a California voter; your understanding of politics, corporate and otherwise, is…naive.

While I would like to see a charismatic nationally recognized Republican with progressive social views, Arnold is not demonstrating to me that he has the knowledge to run the state, especially the budget. Yes, he is a smart man, but the learning curve would be very steep. The govenor considers about 3,000 bills a year, on a wide variety of subjects. Witness the comments he made two days ago about California’s bond ratings being cut to junk–while they were lowered, they’re NOT junk status. This is an extremeley important issue, and he should be able to talk intelligently about it–not make inflammatory claims that are not true.

It will be an interesting race–the conservative Repulicans are sharpening their swords. He doesn’t play well in the so-called family values camp.

PtrDr, question: given that Arnold is so socially progressive, would you support him he weren’t a bodybuilder? Say he were just another successful action-movie actor? From your previous posts, I expected you to be more conflicted…I’m surprised by your unwavering support (though you’re not a California voter, are you?)

California is not longer a democracy, it’s a demockery.

i don’t like davis’s views on guns.

Carl Weathers for Mayor of DC. That Indian dude can have the Dakotas. The other black guy that shaves too much can do VA, and the Predator for president! Actually, though, it is great. Almost surreal. Conan the Republican. Fuck it, why not? CA is fucked. What can you do with a state where admittadly illegal immigrants get drivers licenses, own businesses, and receive gov’t benefits? It’s not really part of the US anymore, anyway. As Reagan once said, a nation that can’t maintain its borders is not a nation. Maybe Arnold can do something, maybe not. But you can’t beat the entertainment value. Oh, and to answer a question earlier in the thread, I’ve already seen the scene from PI where Arnlod tokes down a couple of times.

I hear Ronnie Coleman is running for Governor of Texas in 2012.

Stolen from Bill Maher:

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Finally, a public official who can explain the administration’s social policies in the original German.

Arnold=Republican.
Republican=Good
Arnold=Good

It is nice to see the democratic party imploding. No message. No leadership. No direction. Nice to see the recall. It will make W’s chances in California that much better. I am enjoying this immensely. I remember when the Whig party self-destructed. Looking forward to 2004.

bill maher is a little maggot. Please don’t quote him again. He calls himself an independent. He is nothing more than a leftist liberal. It is too bad that he always has three liberals (including himself) against a Conservative. I would LOVE to go on his show. I would slam my fist on the chair/desk one time. He would be nice and respectful after that.

hillary in 2004!!!

I have a somewhat different opinion on this whole thing…

I think that Arnie will - if elected - be a good governor. Why? Let’s look at his record. No, not his political record, his life record.

How many times has he taken on a task that others thought was beyond him and made it work? In addition to the bodybuilding and movie stuff, which everyone here already probably knows, there are other examples. His first business venture was a success, even though he didn’t have any experience. His first investment was a total loss - but the second time around, he got it right. You could even, if you wanted to, look at his marriage as the same type of thing.

So whether he has a certain amount of political experience or not is beside the point, as far as I’m concerned. If he wants the job in the first place, it’s because he thinks he can be successful at it. And given his track record, I for one am not about to tell him that he’s wrong.

As for not understanding the intricacies of the state’s economics or whatever else, what governor does? That’s what you have advisors for - people you trust to tell you the truth who do know about that sort of thing. No governor has ALL of the knowledge he needs to run something as large and complex as a state. No one does. But there are governors who do very well by placing good people around themselves. And I do believe that Arnie has access to those types of people, and will use them.

“I think he’d make an awesome governor, especially with that lovely nose.” - Jamie Lee Curtis on Arnold

I guess that’s what really matters. I think wee all know that a Republican will win because of the voting machine thing, but it will probably be Arnold over the other Republicans because he drives a Hummer & smokes cigars.
