Funny, slightly racially-insensitive story: I went to a college with a large representation of foreign students (mostly Asian). A prevalent belief/issue is that most white Americans generally think all Asians look the same.

One time we received a “Crime Alert” email that a male student had been assaulted/mugged in the bathroom and reported the assailant as a white male about 6 feet tall. I immediately thought “Great, he just described 95% of our football team” followed by a “Wait…do Asians think all white people look alike?”

Sitting for lunch at work one day, a colleague complained he wasn’t able to get time with a manager.

Another colleague spits out “it’s probably because you’re black” and laughs. I think this guy was trying to be edgy and I guess this type of ironic offensive comments were the thing in his social group.

Outside of a death, I can’t remember such instant silence and disbelief. I don’t think my eyes had ever widened that far in my life lol

A bunch of us made a complaint and he was eventually sacked, the manager was even investigated - luckily for him, he had no time for anyone lol

Hmm… my story isn’t so funny.

@flipcollar you mentioned “festivities” on Saturday night. Are the after parties only for the cool kids and competitors? Or can you just wander into the bar and throw a few back with everybody?

If it’s anything like the purported Venice Beach parties, then it’s not my scene anyway.

I actually just meant the ‘final events’ that you have to buy tickets for. the stuff that starts at 7. There are after party things following that that you can buy tickets for I think, but I doubt I’ll be doing that kind of stuff.

that being said, I bet Columbus will be fucking full of meatheads partying all around the convention center. shouldn’t be hard to find a party.

I somehow forgot about coaching basketball on Saturdays, so I won’t be up. I did get to lift at the elitefts gym yesterday, and it was a ton of fun.

Halfthor really earned that by outfoxing Brian on the deadlift and just dominating the axle. That young polish dude is going to be a force.

I’m no bodybuilding expert, but we picked Bonac to win it from the stands. He was so well conditioned.

It was a great show. First bro contest of any kind.

Nice to meet you @flipcollar . Safe travels back to Dallas.

  1. for anyone that wants to see this, Rogue has posted video of all the Strongman events on YouTube.

  2. I still need to rewatch them in full, but I watched a decent amount between last night and this morning. From what I’ve seen:

I don’t know that I would say Hafthor “outfoxed” Brian in the deadlift as much as he just straight-up beat him. That was a ridiculously impressive pull. I think “outfox” was more like a couple years ago when Shaw pulled an easy 1021 and then Hall ground out the last attempt at 1026 to win it (Shaw probably could have pulled more at the time, but Eddie “outfoxed” him by getting the last attempt).

This year Hafthor just obliterated them all (as soon as Thor pulled 1041, I knew it was over; Brian had really struggled on his prior attempt at 1021 or whatever he had done on his second and there was no way he was pulling another 30 pounds out of his ass).

Also, I might be in the minority on this, but I absolutely LOVE the Elephant Bar Deadlift as an Arnold event. I know some Strongman aficionados might rather see something with more of a wow factor like a car deadlift or Hummer Tires but I think the elephant bar strikes a neat balance between resembling a “regular” deadlift and the freak-show aspect of Strongman.

I love Mateusz K and his ownership of the natural stone to shoulder was a ridiculous display that sent a message he will be a major force to be reckoned with for years to come. I do have a question: for a guy that is SO GOOD at everything else (moving events, circus dumbbell, and stones) why is he such a poor deadlifter? He’s been terrible in that event every year (last year the amateur Hadge outpulled him!) and I’m trying to figure out why this is such a weakness when he’s so good at everything else. Is it just that he’s a little smaller-framed than most of the other guys? But then why could he muscle a 410 pound stone to his shoulder so easily? Does he just prioritize other skills over training the deadlift? I guess that could make some sense - get really good at everything else and just punt on trying to out-deadlift guys that have 100 pounds on you?

Anyways I still need to watch the full Apollon’s Wheel and then re-watch a few of the other events.

There was some confusion over who pulled what with the fans on the expo floor. There were several vendors with insane sound systems (and dancing midget girls) that literally drowned out Mark Henry. We were standing next to a Canadian couple: "what did they just load on the bar?

“I think it’s 460 Kilos, or did he say 463?”

So I think I heard that Halfthor went 2 Kilos over a previous puller. There’s some strategy there… but your point is well taken that if you’re just stronger than everyone else that day, it’s not exactly strategy.

Damn vendors, you don’t need insane bass wattage to sell supps (I’m talking to you Muscle Gen). Funny I have a less clear picture of what happened and I was 15ft from the competitors.

Yeah, to be honest, I thought about going to the event when I saw you created this thread, but I had some family/personal stuff to take care of this weekend, and I realized that Rogue was going to have pretty good coverage online anyway. I’ll be honest, just watching on YouTube in between doing my chores and whatnot was a great way to consume the content, haha. Check out the YouTube vids and you’ll have a good idea of whatever you missed.

Anyways, duly inspired, it is now time to go out to the garage and dump another 50 pounds of sand into my IronMind toy, then lift it and walk around a bunch of times.

BTW - we should establish contact off line at some point. If you ever want to train together, we can probably do a “home and home” series on some weekends that we are both free, at least for the next couple months til my wife pops out our first kid.

Would love to meet you and train. You can see what having a 4yo and 2yo is like. Lol. Not to scare you away.

I have a tire, keg, dumbells that can hold up to 250lb, and a well drill bit (180lb chunk of steel) for strongman stuff. It’s important to note that I’m considerably weaker than you (<495 deadlift).

Met Stan. Really cool guy. He’s who I’m going to be when I grow up.

You out-angled Big Stan!

Dude was wearing a 5x shirt, my guess is to make him more approachable to sell Koolers. He’s not wider than me frame wise. But he’s holding 70lbs more muscle on that frame lol.

Good question. It is really the event that holds him back.
He has said somewhere that he is dealing with back issues. Partially stemming from an inbalanced leg (one being shorter than the other). I guess this affected or still affect his deadlift the most out of all lifts.
