Arachne Gets Strong: 5/3/1

Oh god three people just advised one of my friends to read on the treadmill in response to her FB post about wanting to read a book. Oh god oh god.

Kimba, it appears to be all on the booty. I think it’s mostly fat, and I’m fine with that. I measured ~17% on the fancy new scale at the dojang, and i think I tested for bb at ~15.

lean, but Im not mad atcha

Mim, thanks then I promise not to hate on your squats… or MPs… or rows…!

week 2 deadlift 1/20/10 training max 165

warmup
5 60
5 75
3 90
working
3 105
3 120
10 135 < 10 reps! 10! Second 10 rep dead max in two weeks! They were all reset at the bottom. Hey Kimba!

assistance
stepups 3x10 with 12s < ok this was illuminating. Or painful. I’ve known for awhile I have problems with full rom on the left side. My pistols, eg are much harder on that side. But boy these stepups really show the difference. Very very difficult on the left and easy as anything on the right. I will carry on.

lunges 4x10 with 12s
good mornings 3x10

Good day. No presses tomorrow because it’s my Birthday (46, yay!) and I have lunch, then a facial, then a date… good times.

Happy lifting!

must hear about date.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, you little spring chicken! oooh…facial…lucky! have a great date.

and yes to your 10 rep DL max, in 2 weeks, nonetheless!

Good point on the “weighted” chinups! Has the weight gain been muscle or fat, and where do you notice it? Do you feel that you are lifting stronger at the higher weight?

And, we can’t very well ask N for a nekkid chinups video when neither of us has put one up. Fair is fair.[/quote]

I’ll give you guys a picture of my double biceps in front of the Caribbean ocean when I get back. That should make a few people salivate- the ocean I mean, not the biceps.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARACHNE!!! I wish for you a really great 46th year, full of lots of PRs and fun-filled dates.

In celebration of your birthday, I am also getting a facial today (microderm).

So, HELL’S YEAH for the 10 reps @ 135! Of course in the interests of further motivation, I must point out that had you done 11 reps you would have tied me, and 12 reps to beat my sorry ass.

Happy birthday!
And happy dating and PR’ing.

Happy Birthday!!! What could be better? Great day of lifting, followed by good eats, pampering and a date! Sounds fantastic.

Have fun!

Thanks everyone! This will be a great birthday. I am fitter and stronger than I have ever been and life is good.

Curse you Kimba!!! I’m sure I could have done at least one more rep. I would have yelled fucking shenanigans but there was someone else in the weight room. You realize according to the formula your 1 RM should be around 185??

Can’t have you getting too complacent, even on your birthday.

I don’t know how accurate those 1 rep max calculators are for me. Clearly for bench they are wrong. My honest opinion is that I couldn’t get 185 off the floor with anything close to a straight back, but I probably could muscle it up with horrible form. There is something to be said, I think, for progressing slowly on the weight so that one doesn’t outstrip one’s technical proficiency with the lift itself.

Happy bday

happy birthday!

Hope your day was awesome!!!

Aw thanks everyone! I had the best snowboarding day at Keystone. Found some good trees and had a damn near perfect day. I also managed to get in my overhead press workout today using my home barbells. I’ll try to post it tomorrow. I’m going to Orlando on business, so Wednesday starts week 3 of 5/3/1.

BTW Kimba, I think it’s individual. When I do high reps is when my form goes all to hell, but you seem to have no problem with that.

Have a good week all!
