what? no one likes Sevendut?! Tis my fave band…I keep missing them everytime they come to town…saw them a few times living up in MAINE!
My orientation went well…still couldn’t close the deal. It’s like going out on a date and you are having an awesome time, when suddenly the night comes to an end and it gets kind of awkward…the potential client starts fidgeting or grabbing for there things and says, I think I should just be on my own for awhile…
WTF DOES THAT MEAN?!
So I say something like, 'Is doing this on your own going to work for you? (Dr Phil like, I know!) Then I whip out my workout log sheet and start writing up there plan, asking them what day they would like to meet on
As for the orientations, I don’t think its you. Its the situation. These people are being offered something for free – the “orientation” right? Them taking the gym up on the offer in no way indicates that they are actually interested in spending money to train. Perhaps some of them if they keep seeing you around and they really AREN’T getting the results may re-think their penny pinching ways. In the meantime, don’t get discouraged! Keep trying new things with these folks, keeping confidence in the value you provide.
Yea the orientation is free so of course they’re going to do it. Why not? If you actually sign 1 out of every 10 people who do the free offer you’re doing okay. Just keep doing it, keep smiling, people will recognize your value
You have some very good points, Kim! And that’s exactly it!
The orientation is just there intro to the gym, and of course our chance to sell ourselves…
that’s why I think it’s good and I will take the advice of training different times of the day during the week to make myself ‘known.’ I have this feeling things are going to pick up soon…especially with New Year’s resolutions of wanting to ‘get in shape,’ around the corner!
I have an orientation with a woman on Tuesday…And after speaking over the phone a few times, she is already telling me she wants me to get her on the right track…lady was in the MARINES! oo-rah!
Man, I should probably stop talking about these orientations of mine…the lady I just talked to not even an hour ago texted me to cancel her orientation…GRRRRRRRR!!
I wrote back to tell her we can still meet so I can get her measurements and see what she’s already doing…
she says she wants to try an old routine for a couple weeks first…damnit.
People will consume free stuff with abandon and are much more reluctant – to the point of irrationality – to actually pay for anything. It’s an interesting behavioral econ thing:
A less fitness-y example:
"A few Halloweens ago, Ariely laid in a supply of Hersheyâ??s Kisses and two kinds of Snickers-regular two-ounce bars and one-ounce miniatures. When the first children came to his door, he handed each of them three Kisses, then offered to make a deal. If they wanted to, the kids could trade one Kiss for a mini-Snickers or two Kisses for a full-sized bar. Almost all of them took the deal and, proving their skills as sugar maximizers, opted for the two-Kiss trade. At some point, Ariely shifted the terms: kids could now trade one of their three Kisses for the larger bar or get a mini-Snickers without giving up anything. In terms of sheer chocolatiness, the trade for the larger bar was still by far the better deal. But, faced with the prospect of getting a mini-Snickers for nothing, the trick-or-treaters could no longer reckon properly. Most of them refused the trade, even though it cost them candy. Ariely speculates that behind the kidsâ?? miscalculation was anxiety. As he puts it, â??Thereâ??s no visible possibility of loss when we choose a FREE! item (itâ??s free).â??
People will waste time and money to snag a freebie.
Weight is holding steady at 190…go away water. ;< Had some unplanned treats over the weekend…it’s hard to get right back on track on the weekends, after eating lots of yummy foods on Fridays…
I may scrap the refeed actually and have a few free meals during the week instead…the way my body has responded to all those carbs at once is not GOOD! And I feel like I would be able to make better progress and just get this shit over with…
I was down to 187 last Friday…would like to make it to 183-185 this week!! No refeed…just a few free meals. If I can do that, I’d be about 10 lbs away from my effing goal weight…ya!! And by Turkey day to boot!
That would be faster progress than I made last time…it took me 9 weeks to lose 18 pounds…If I get to 178, that would be 20lbs in 4 weeks!
Good training today!
Decided to give my leggies a break, since there still pretty hammered from the million squats I did on Saturday…
warmup-
walking
hypers
crunches
Internal rotations(shoulder) 3x10x15s
Single arm db press-
1x6x35
3x6x40
supersetted with
Wide grip pullups
3x5x -70 assist(-5lbs,yay!) will stay here til I get 8 on all 3 sets
Pushups! (wanna get good at these again!)
3x20,16,15 supersetted with
Wide grip inverted rows(feet up on bench) LOVE THESE!!
3x12,10,8
Lat raises-3x10x15s supersetted with
Tricep bench dips
3x10(with a 25lb plate)
I like the dips, but I don’t like how my shoulders roll forward! What’s the deal with tricep kickbacks? I’ve heard conflicting reviews…but she does em!!
I just have to be careful, cause I have a funky elbow…

Fwiw, I have good triceps and I got them from close grip pushups, and I’ve never done the kickbacks. Just get those hands way under your chest and knock out a few sets every workout.
Do dips on an elevated dip bar – that is my main triceps exercise. Concentrate on moving straight down, not forward. Bench dips are OK (actually, I sort of hate them) but I LOVE big-girl dips!
ok,that was my instinct with the bench dips…I was like ‘damn, this kinda hurts my shoulders,’ but ignored it, ha!..
my fave tricep ‘move,’ are skull crushers from a dead stop position on the floor…or OH tricep presses.
I don’t do kickbacks myself, was just curious on what people’s views were…I’ve heard they suck and are worthless, yet I see some trainers doin em…shoot, even Cindy Crawford does em(I SOOO had her workout video when I was in the 7th grade!!!) LOL!
i just don’t see the point in using a move that is trying to target a teeny muscle group. especially when that muscle group can get the same benefit from a number of lifts that also target other larger muscle groups and therefore give you more benefits whether ur goals are size, strength, or fat loss.
for triceps i like close grip bench press and db pullovers.
god i wish i had a dip station. i need to rig one up. =+)
how much ground turkey do you eat in the salad?? a lb??
yep…probably just under a lb when it’s all cooked up, lol…
I saw a midget squatting!! teehee
ok, maybe not a midget, but he must been about 4’10" maybe? But he was squatting pretty heavy relative to his size…he’s such a flirt though and was winking at me, LOL!
I led a girl out onto the floor to see what her squat looks like…and she chose the smith machine, grrr…she kept bragging about how much she can squat, She also did behind the neck presses, but who am I to judge? shrugs I was just there to observe and give advice, but she ‘knew what she was doing,’ to get the results…
I’m going to train Monday nights now…show off my squatting and dead lifting skillz to the fellas…I bet they’d get a kick out of that!
