Anything's Possible

Hey MIM! Great to see you. Nice quads, nice depth.

MIM, I also recently heard about pollen food syndrome or oral allergy syndrome which to my limited understanding is a reaction to certain foods, fruits and vegetables, due to a reaction to pollen. Something like the reaction happens when the food is eaten when the body is reacting to the pollens and is worse a couple of hours after exercise or something like that.

I’ll see if I can find a link. I think the article I read stated apples, carrots and celery as known reactive foods but I can’t remember for sure.

Grr my post isn’t showing up to edit now :stuck_out_tongue:

On wikipedia, they list the cross-reaction foods for grass is: melons, tomatoes, oranges
and for ragweed: banana, cantaloupe, cucumber, honeydew, watermelon, zucchini, echinacea, artichoke, dandelions, hibiscus or chamomile tea

But no corn anywhere. Interesting though that the melons are on both lists. Corn is a grass though isn’t it?

nope, it’s a grain, i think. oatmeal is a grass, tho.

Grains are grasses. But I don’t know if that says anything about allergies since a grass allergy is a pollen allergy.

Bah, where’s the fun in that?

By the way, MIM I forgot to comment that your squat looks good to me! Form critique isn’t my strength though. And your legs are looking great!

hi MIM…i can’t smell your armpits…just been outta time and energy to post but it’s off day for me (unless i go do stupid cardio) so i’m gonna say HI! nice quads too!

u asked about my squat 1RM…i set it at 145, (x .9 then other calcs) so i think we are close, no? intervals…fun! haaaaa-great idea to pretend you are being chased by a dog. bears would work too.

Thanks for all the replies…feelin the love!

I would think corn is a grain, hmm, interesting!

I do get reactions to oranges, tomatos and all the melons listed as well as cucumbers…zucchini is fine as long as its cooked, never ate it raw tho…

But what would be the difference? Between raw and cooked…is there still a reaction inside the body? I’ve been bugging my hubby all week asking random questions! :stuck_out_tongue:
But it looks like the treatment is to peel or cook the foods!

For dinner at Christmas, we had: ham, green beans, potatos and corn! An hour later I started to break out…I remember waking up itching…and by morning my throat was tight and it was hard to breath! scary.

Anywhoo, thanks about the squats…Just need to be more confident!!

Oh, and I should mention…My weight is exactly. the. same.

But I’ve lost an inch off my butt in two weeks! I’m working my butt off!

haha.

I think your squats are to depth.

Also, dude, you have hamstrings.

And corn is not very closely related to other grains like wheat or barley; it’s a C4 plant.

yay for hamstrings!

Depth will come as I go…my focus is form and having confidence in that form! I think its safe to say my form is pretty good now, ya? Although I’m still tweaking stance and grip on the bar to where its comfortable as well. stupid elbow and knee!! :<

C4 plant??

I wouldn’t be too terribly sad if I couldn’t have corn anymore…but corn on the cob in the summer is the bestest! :frowning:

And what about everything else that is made with corn?? And who knows if it was even the corn…what if the pig had recently eaten some grass? LOL!

C4 means it conducts photosynthesis differently than most plants (which are c3) in a way that makes them more drought-tolerant. They diverged evolutionarily from other plants about 25 to 32 million years ago in the Oligocene period.

So basically, corn is a cousin to wheat, barley, oats and rice; it’s structurally quite different.

wow, you know your plants!

that’s so hott.

I thought I was going to be a botanist for a while. I still like bio and maybe I’ll wind up doing it again, on the computational end.

You are more than welcome to speak more Bio anytime you feel the need, Alisa…it is hot! :stuck_out_tongue:

Man, my boss lady director person caught me before I started training this morning, and tortured me with a fitness assessment…she’s making all the trainers do it, and the regular(somewhat serious) lifters. It’s whats going to be used for the Biggest Loser Challenge set to kick off in a couple weeks.

1/2 mile
25 situps
25 stepups
30 chest presses(with a 30lb bb, yawn)
1 mile bike ride

Its all timed…I got 10:30…not horrible, but could use improvement, which I already knew…I surprised my self and was able to run the whole 1/2! Like really running, between 5.5-6.8…Cardio is my kryptonite…

Training
55x3
62x3----I put two clamps on hoping that would be 2lbs
70x7(not bad, I got 65 for 8 last week)

One arm db press
4x8x35

Pullups-
4x8x-75 :frowning: oh well

Lat raises-
3x10x15s

Hammer curls-
3x10x25s

My bum/hammies are sore in all the right places today…and I even feel the fire hydrants I did, right in that annoying problem area…fire hydrants stay as well as single leg dl’s…

What I really want right now is a subway club…mmmmm

ack, double post!

Hey did you all hear about this? I think it’s lame when there are clearly more important things going on in the world…

I wonder what Chad Waterbury would say?

I guess I don’t understand the purpose of that fitness assessment of the trainers. Was it to establish a benchmark for the participants to shoot for?

TBH, I don’t understand it either…I guess its the average of what the general pop should be able to do, and at the end of the challenge(in 8 weeks) they’ll be tested again to see how they’ve improved.
