Is there anything wrong with eating hot dogs without buns. THey have 0-1 carbs 9 grams of fat with 2.5 saturated and 5-7 grams of protein. I would say thats not bad if I wanted to eat one along with a P+F meal

They’re not bad I eat them occasionally but they are really shitty. A shitty source of meat, you’re basically eating scrap meat plus most of them are loaded up with sodium and nitrates, and nitrates aren’t good for you.
it’s fat coming from crap sources. A lot of preservatives, and who knows what’s in them unless you have the ingredients in front of you. There’s better choices out here if you can afford them.
If you need those calories then go for it.
ya pretty much what everyone else said, sometimes Ill have chicken sausages from like health good stores with no nitrates and a little better ratio of fat to protein for my diet
I love hot dogs, or any sausage for that matter. But I know that less than the best cuts of meat make it into the casing of a sausage. I’ve heard the meat that goes in called “L & A”, for “Lips & Arses”. If that’s the case, L & A tastes pretty darn good.
If it’s not the case, then the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council needs to do a better job of assuring the public that the meat in hot dogs is high quality. At any rate, go for kosher. There is at least some indicia the meat and the facilities are clean.

I felt the need to point out this contradiction. Sorry OP, I have nothing else to offer.[/quote]
LOL…hey, I’m human but they are shitty.

The Hebrew National dogs at Shea Stadium are orgasmic.
I haven’t been eating hot dogs but I may have incorrectly assumed any meat protein was good for building muscle. Is there anything wrong with pork, lean lamb meat, or veal?

Apparently you havent had their italian sausage.
sodium nitrate correlates with cancer
anything wrong with hot dogs hmm…I probably should not say this but what the heck… hot dogs as well as peanut butter are under the rat hair (i think thats whats it called) law. basically meaning that the product cant contain above an x amount of rat hairs. thats why when it comes to hotdogs always buy the most expensive type.

I didn’t find that any better than, say, one from a county fair. But there’s something about that hot dog.
What’s your goal?
If you just need calories for a bulk, then a hot dog isn’t all bad… it’s cheap calories, calories by the ton.
However, if you’re maintaining or cutting you’ll definitely want to stay away.
It depends on the brand, but I’ve seen some hot dogs with up to a 4:1 Fat:Protein ratio, and they lose relatively little of their fat through cooking due to the casing. For reference, after frying, regular ol pork bacon is about 1:1…And for my calories I’m gonna enjoy a bunch of strips of crispy bacon alot more than a hot dog.
When it comes down to it, there’s just so many better sources of food that actually have, you know, meat in them.
I think the better question is, Is there anything right with hotdogs?

hell no, unless you are one of them islams or jew dudes, or all of whom believe pigs are dirty animals, then you are laughing.
note: i am only jesting when i use the terms them islams or jew dudes.
for the lamb, usually it has higher levels of fat, so i usually eat it at a P+F meal. lean cuts of pork such as tenderloin and sirloin chops can be had at any meal as fat content is low.

Thanks! I started another thread because it seemed like no one noticed my question here. I guess the new thread wasn’t really necessary though.

This is the same thing that I heard. Its hard not to eat them, but until someone can make one that
s actually good for you, then they are crap.
It is my opinion that there are many other sources of much better quality protein. Besides nitrates being unhealthy for you, they happen to give me a nasty headache.
I have not ate a hot dog in several years.
