Peace out fellas.

I heard some are actually considering Neptune

I actually have beach property in SE Asia. I bought it for my retirement. Not because I think the US or her economy is failing. In fact I am hoping for a full and strong recovery. I just wanted to be able to retire and enjoy living on the beach after 20 plus years of service to my country.

However, if anyone wants to donate to get me out of the country I would gladly accept!!!

If the US goes into an economic collapse it will take England, Canada, New Zealand etc with it. There is a huge correlation between these countries economically.

Additionally Australia would be a horrible choice as China’s export driven economy won’t need the Aussies resources if no one is buying their products.

The thing is, China is rich and is well positioned to start consuming its own production. As soon as they stop sending all their shit over here they will start buying it up themselves.[/quote]

I don’t have the same faith in central planning that you do. Central planning turned the Ukraine into a net grain importer after being the breadbasket of Europe. Not to mention the real possibility of massive social unrest in China. Plus as I siad above, much of that growth would have to be stimulated by the central authorities and that never ends well.

Cool man, which country if you don’t mind me asking.

A lot of SE Asian countries are making it harder for Ex-pats to own land these days. Some are adopting a “landhold” system like the South Pacific where you don’t “own” the land, but you get a 20 year lease on it.

The Philippines. I have been living/working there for several years and have some pretty good contacts. They have a “landhold” system in place as well, but I have a young daughter who is a citizen…so actually she owns the land. And I have a friend who is a provincial supreme court judge should I have issues.

Thailand recently changed their law and it is now legal for an ex-pat to own property there now. I have even heard rumor that you could use your VA home loan benefits there.

Awesome man, that’s a pretty idyllic place to retire. One of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever visited…

Yeh Mak you should definitely move to Australia, NZ is full of complete faggots. The rest of you, get in now while you still can. Immigration and sustainability are becoming hot topic issues particularly for the election this week. We’re hopefully going to be slowing total immigration all the way down.

Also if everything goes to shit, Australia is well situated as an island nation. Not easy for the third world to flock here en masse. And we have stacks of space and stacks of resources. I think we’ll be just fine.

The thing about New Zealand and Australia is that they both have vast amounts of unpopulated land and a fair amount of natural resources to exploit. Australia especially.

Whoever thinks China cannot successfully decouple from the US is very naive.

The rest of the world (including China itself) is hungry to consume, too, but they actually have the means (through real savings) to do it.

Out of curiosity, how is the water situation currently in Australia? I seem to remember a drought a year or two ago which depleted the drinking water so much that wastewater was being reprocessed…

I’ve thought about it, sure, but only idly. I like it here better than in Europe or Canada. Attitudes about little things are different, and when you come down to it I’m a pretty chauvinistic American – I don’t think I could stand it anywhere else.

I could be wrong here but as I understand it waste water is reprocessed in many places including the U.S, and it is completely fine. The final product is clean water. I don’t think it has been implemented anywhere in Australia as of yet.

South-East Queensland has had abundant rainfall for some time now though, so the drought isn’t an issue for me. The other Aussies here would have to comment on the other capitals, but as I understand it Melbourne, Sydney and Perth are considering desalination - which if we could get some bloody nuclear power going here would be a great sustainable water source well in to the future. Groundwater remains a considerable untapped resource as well I believe.

I still hold that Australia is the best place to whether the impending storm. I think I’ll stay right where I am, don’t be jealous:

Look how much money the US sends over to China, if the people used that money to pay down their debts the US would by far be the most prosperous nation.

If the US completely collapses then Australia is in for a rough ride. Because although our military is excellent and a match for anyone in SE Asia it really cannot compete with any of the larger nations (i.e. China).

And because Australia is awesome there is significant advantages to invading. Hopefully when we are driven out of Australia we can use and fortify New Zealand as a western stronghold.

We don’t want those fuckers in NZ though. well more specifically we don’t want them in the North or South Islands. They are welcome to the West Island - it’s just a big shithole populated by convicts, bitey creatures and a very large rock.

I am looking forward to it!! And I agree absolutely beautiful.

I don’t know much about it but supposedly Australia would be very difficult to invade and occupy, and the military actually has theorised and planned for that being attempted and would be able to defend against it. It’s probably stupid speculation and I have no idea where I read it. Something about really spread out population, fucked supply lines and an extremely competent and mobile defence force.

I don’t think we’re as dependent on the U.S. as most people seem to think.

Western Europe, China, Canada, and China are heavily dependant on the USA for trade or other support. Western Europe and Canada also suffer from the same economic structural issues.

In no particular order, the countries to look for as growth countries in the next century are: India, Poland, Israel*, various of the former Soviet Satelite countries, Peru, and Thailand.

  • Assuming survival of the coming war

Australia isn’t, but it has a large welfare state and unfair taxation that will eventually stifle economic growth, much like Europe and the USA.

To a lesser degree, mind you, but it’s still there.
