I don’t like “drinking” as necessity for havinf fun which is what most of the students seem to think is the status quo here in England. I mean how the hell is getting absolutely wasted, making a tit out of yourself, hooking up with a drunk girl then waking the next with a hangover, poor athletic performance for the day and a rather awkward thing in your bed useful at all. I went to a foam party the other night I had two pints of cider and bottle of alcopop, was completely sober but it was one of the best nights ever. However there some people there who were completely off their faces what memories will they have the day after?

thats it. i dont like drinking for the sake of it, just because everyone else is.
this sometimes makes me the odd one out, but who cares.
theres nothing wrong with being quiet and not talking or danncing or smiling when out in a club.

What this guy said. I drink, but not what I consider excessively. If I’m out somewhere, then I might have a beer or two or maybe order some plain whiskey, but drinking to get wasted is something I don’t do anymore.

Apparently, there are a number of people who like to drink in the ‘non-drinking’ thread.
I bet you guys talk about squats in the squat-rack-curls thread, too.
Speaking of which, I did some killer squats yesterday and my legs are way sore.
Drinking sucks, i drink almost every weekend, sometimes 2-3 days straight. It is living hell, especially for the wallet (funny how my avatar represents that fact).
But there are also good qualities with all those lost weekends. Cant remember them, though.

I have mixed feelings on this issue. I’m 20 and in college and I rarely ever drank my whole life until last semester. I was always the DD and ‘guy who wasn’t drunk’, I heard all that crap that your buddies say, trust me.
Now if I’m going to drink it’s once or twice a month, and it’s at a party with some good looking girls (sober good looking, not drunk good looking). I don’t know, call me crazy, but so long as you’ve got everything else in life going well I enjoy it, it’s a good way to let go. Plus…hot, hot girls.
I feel what other people are saying though- if all you enjoy doing, and all you’re good at, is partying, then you’re a loser.
Seems like quite a few have been through ‘these years’ …what say you?
Lot’s of hate being thrown at people who like to go out and have a good time. Too bad.
Or you could go back and re-read a lot of people posts. Seems like there’s a lot who use to drink on occassion or heavily, but stopped once it stopped being fun for them.
Some people enjoy drinking their entire lives, some don’t.
I think it’s stupid to see the issue as black and white anyway. Just let people do whatever they want to do.

Anyone who says you can’t meet a girlfriend unless you are drunk is a no-life-experience idiot.
Besides, who want the kind of girlfriend that goes out and gets drunk every weekend? You have to question just how many guys she’s picked up before. Also, you have to ask yourself why she can’t enjoy herself without booze.

Yea I pretty much said the same thing. And he wonders why he has shit relationships and his girlfriends turn into little crack whores.
I honestly just felt like it was a natural progression to leave the days of benders behind. I am out of commission for 2 days now if I were to get drunk. Sure, there are times when I feel a little like an outsider, particularly at parties, barbeques, poker games and shit, but the reward for not drinking far outweighs the punishment, perceived or otherwise.
But yeah, it’s a total individual thing. Live and let live.
I rarely drink…maybe 6-12 drinks a year at most. Now if I go to Europe I’ll drink a bunch of their beer because I love the taste.
I grew up brewing beer and making wine with my dad and grandpa so I’ve known what a variety of alcohol tastes like since before I was in middle school. So it held absolutely no mystery or romance for me.
For the most part I just don’t like the way it tastes and I hate what it does if you over indulge. Drunks fucking piss me off…it isn’t funny, it isn’t cute, and it isn’t a good stress reliever. IT IS FUCKING ANNOYING!!!
I’d rather save my time and money for bowling, lifting, eating, vacation or retirement.
Out of curiosity, how old are the people posting here?
I am a senior in high school and never drank. I actually hate the taste, and i wont drink just to get drunk. Health does take some account as well. i always have a good time without drinking; i don’t need alcohol to make a night enjoyable.
To the OP- your friend says how you wont get a gf if you do not drink? This is how i feel about that. Not exactly an answer, but a personal way of looking at the situation. Since I’m not a drinker I’m not really looking for a girl who needs to get drunk every weekend. You just need to wait to find someone who agrees with you. Try to find girls who are interested in something.
For example, many girls who take a sport seriously will not drink (and if they do, they wont drink much). The plus side to that is you know they’re going to have a nice body because they train just about every day. If you think about it, if a girl doesn’t play a sport or go to the gym or dance etc (aka- actually DO something) than what’s left for them to do? Answer- shop, sit home and do nothing, or drink. There’s no need to start drinking to get a gf; that’s pure idiocy.
In today’s society (at least to me, even at my young age) it seems that odds are against me in finding a girl who does not live for drinking. In general, almost all the people i know my age (give or take a year) drink. It seems most girls can’t just “hang out” anymore- they would much rather be at a party drinking.
Not only can I not justify spending $100+ every weekend to get drunk and go downtown, but why would I really want to spend that kind of money messing up my body and mind, and slowing my progress in the gym and at school?
I hit a new 1RM deadlifting this morning, got groceries–because a man’s gotta’ eat–and wrote a paper…all before any of my friends who drank last night have woken up.
It’s good to see lots of other people on this site that share the same sort of opinion about drinking, and are keeping it healthy and working hard in the gym.
I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day. - Frank Sinatra
Not to be cliched, but I love drinking. I don’t get blackout shitface hammered ass drunk like I used to (except on my birthday and St. Pat’s) but there’s still nothing for me like going to a bar and hanging out.
My favorite nights aren’t the weekend, though… it’s the Tuesday nights where you can sit at a bar with a buddy or two and just bullshit, watching the people in the bar and listening to some good music and doing the same thing people have done since they were Publick Houses that were a gathering place for travelers and locals.
That being said, I never understand why people make these threads. It’s not even like it’s an AA support kind of thread, which I could see… If you don’t like drinking, don’t fuckin drink. If you do, then go for it.
I never quite understand the controversy.
I don’t drink either. On Friday nights, I stay at home and enjoy my chicken and broccoli followed by rearranging my sock drawer.
Alcohol is at best a crutch for controlling stress(and consequently cortisol levels) at worst a deadly poison.
Don’t drink it.

I don’t eat broccoli. I think I’m going to start a thread looking for other non-broccoli eaters. It seems like everywhere I go, all everyone my age wants to do is eat broccoli. Thank god for the internet where I can find other broccoli haters, cause they sure as fuck aren’t where I live.

Broccoli’s fucking disgusting. Now cauliflower, there’s a vegetable you can sink your teeth into.

what does going out have to do with drinking, u can go out without drinking encase u havent tried haha
I don’t drink hardly ever, once in a blue moon ill get wasted at a special event just for the hell of it, but the rest of the time I hate having alcohol almost forced upon me.
People say ‘have a drink’
Ill say cheers Ill have a COCA COLA!!!
they’ll say no have a proper drink
Like fuck off its cold and wet its a drink why does there have to be alcohol in it for me to be accepted.
I got pulled by the cops once late at night and he asked if I had been drinking I said yes, he said how many I said about 7 or 8, he breathalised me and then gave me a lod of shit when it was clear, I said that he did not specify dis I drink ALCOHOL, he did not see the funny side and give me a right load of arse ache haha!
Drinking alcohol, like 4+ beers range, slows metabolism right? Your liver has to work overtime to clear your body of the toxins so things like protein synthesis are slowed? SWIM just noticed that after a night of drinking, the next day they feel no hunger at all and sluggish (even without a hangover), and they have to force themselves to eat in order to get enough calories.
SWIM will usually go do something intensive like sprints early in the day in order to tryout a theory that they can “jump-start” metabolism.
Thoughts?
