Anyone Here Into Modifying Their Car??

When I was young, my dad and I worked on his '71 Chevy Nova SS. It was fucking bad-ass!

I haven’t had the time to work on cars lately, but ten years ago I had and Acura Integra GS-R with B-18c engine. I didn’t go crazy boring shit out or anything, but I bolted some shit on (mainly aspirating it). Also about 4K in the sound system

I am seriously considering getting a classic muscle car again. I’m only torn between fixing it up myself or getting one in reasonably good shape already and going from there. (or getting the new Challenger - that thing is BAD-ASS!)

I more of a fan of the dodge charger. cause i own one, lol. 07 superbee. when i say charger, i mean the charger srt8.

If I could ever afford it-although I am generally opposed to displays of opulence-I would treat myself to a Range Rover sport, though the running costs, especially here in the UK would be ridiculous.

Otherwise as I mentioned above if I had a spare 15K or so I would by a nice second hand convertible.

Hmmm, I put a steering wheel cover on mine

I have a 2010 Camaro SS that is currently getting heads, cam, and gears. I already put in a short throw shifter assembly and headers and exhaust on it. I upgraded the trunions in the rocker arms. I have a few other small parts to put on it.

In the next year or so, the stock short block is coming out and something much larger is going in… probably an LS based 441 (in case I ever want to go forced induction) or an LS based 454 or maybe something bigger. All that requires upgraded rearend which will probably be a 9" IRS conversion, LS9X clutch, and then the transmission. All it takes is money…

The car is black on black with 15% tinted windows. The only shiny things are the 67-69 style “SS” I put on the front and rear and the polished factory wheels. I removed “camaro” from the side and the bowties.
II had them paint “Mustang” all black. I think some of the upgrades you planned would vooid my warranty.

Do you have a picture of it? It sounds cool as fuck.

Unfortunately, I drive a piece of shit Civic that I wouldn’t bother doing anything with. I am casually looking for a 66-69 Mustang or 2 door Fairlane (used to own a '67 with a 289 in college). I’ve got 4 grand put aside in case I ever get lucky and come across one for cheap. Then I’ll be “restomod’ing” for sure.

I used to have a eagle talon i put about $10,000 bucks into, mostly on “looks” parts (ie, rims, suspension, tinting, body smoothing, stereo etc.) and a few simple performance parts (mandrel bent exhaust from downpipe back, limited slip-diff) etc…

I had a bad month where my car got hit 3 times in a mall parking lot… (front quarter panel, passenger side door, and rear quarter panel)… all three times the douche bag(s) who hit my car didn’t leave a note. The the window got smashed and stereo stolen (while parked at my friends house) Insurance company was getting suspicious of all my claims (and charging me a deductible each time) and i eventually said fuck it, and traded it in for a new car (A Mitsubishi lancer which i have since crashed lol).

Yours already looks pretty trick, even if it is ‘standard’.

I looks in your avatar that the machine is being trailered. Something amiss with it?

BBB
Nope. I just got a flat tire last week and decided to play it safe and see how the warranty worked out.

That car’s computer systems tell you the moment the tire pressure is a little low. I could have actually driven it in probably with no problems.

Changing tired on that thing is a bitch because the back tires are bigger than the front.

Zenon - was it a DSM? And why the fuck would you waste 10g on aethetics? I mean its your money, but DSM’s were built for the strip. Should’ve jumped for performance upgrades. I had a few buddys with DSM’s running sub 10’s. No spray. Just AWD goodness. If they didn’t break down so often, I’d buy on as a toy.

Bushido - For those that have the money and a vehicle to do so with, a lot of heavy going track users tow their cars to and from the track to keep the miles and wear and tear down. Its actually extrememly common. If I saw an 08 or above Mustang on a trailer and it didn’t look totally wrecked - its safe to assume its either:
A) a track only car.
B) has several grand (10 ) invested into just performance parts (forced induction aint cheap)
C) is being repossessed.
or any combination of the three.

Wow, that feature would certainly be useful on my Porsche. I swear I have to measure and adjust the tyre pressures every 2-3 months.

BBB
That is the main reason I got it over the Camarro. Though the Camaro has On star, the computer in this talks to me. I freaking LOVE talking on the phone through my car.

I know all of this shit will be out of date in ten years, but it really makes me wonder how technology will progress if they have integrated my iPhone with my car this well.

Definetly. I love the things my Ford can do. I can plug my iPod and cell phone straight into it, talk on the phone without touching the thing, tells me every thing that’s wrong, from low tires, to oil change, to exactly which bulb needs replaced.

I agree about being excited about what’s coming next too. Should be exciting.

Agreed. You don’t even have to plug it in anymore. It wirelessly connects with my iPhone, tell me when calls are coming through along with caller id, connects and plays any songs I may have stored on my iPhone or any usb flash drive.

My '06 BMW 330i had the feature where it would automatically sync with your cell phone and be completely hands free. Which was great when I was driving alone. The part that I didn’t like was that it was a PAIN in the ass to temporarily turn the feature off. So if I was picking a girl up for a date, I didn’t want other girls calling and having it on the car’s speaker. That car had the “iDrive” controls where basically, everything was controlled by a single knob/toggle thingy. It was tedious to do ANYTHING with that system.

What are the controls like with the Ford? Is it easy to temporarily shut that feature off? I’m actually looking at the new Mustangs (that GT500 looks like a BEAST!)

Speaking of epic car technology: Has anyone ever put a ps3 in their car?

Just bought a 1988 chevy van with a couple of friends for a 3 week roadtrip through Europe this summer. We had this idea of putting in a 24 inch TV and a 120 gig ps3 slim with the help of a 12V DC to 230V AC converter, aside from putting in a small 12V fridge.

Would the generator die? Should I get a third battery (already has two, there’s a mighty stereo in it)?

TV, ps3 and fridge should consume about 50+100+75=225W I think…

Very easy to use. The only way that scenario could fuck you up is that the name of the person in your phone does show up on the screen when someone calls.

Either way, you can simply shut it off if you don’t want to answer them.

I honestly don’t even use the controls where the radio is because everything I need except for the ac is at the steering wheel.

So it would display, “blond slut from Lima” or, “Asian, nice ass from ESL” or ,“Sarah DD’s”? Yeah, that would definitely put me in the trick bag (they would want to know how I have THEM stored in my phone, so instead of asking, they’d discretely call me while in the car and then it would display, “Brunette with hot roommate”)! LOL At least it’s easy to use.

All any of you care about is the car accessories? WTF is wrong with all of you? What happened to being a car enthusiast? Buying a car for On Star? “I can plug my iPod in to it.” You sicken me with your soccer mom ways. You deserve to have your man cards revoked.

If you bought a car it shouldve been based on it’s 0-60…estimated 1/4 mile? Top speed? Braking distance? How many horses does it produce at peak RPM? 5 speed ot 6? Is it loud enough to piss off you neighbor? Can I make it loud enough to piss off my neighbor? How does it handle a turn at 60mph? Naturally aspirated or force induced? How many cylinders(6 minimum - 4 if it has a turbo/supercharger)? Can I make it FASTER?

And whoever made the comment on “Doesnt that void your warranty?” You, sir, should be slapped. If you’re worried about your fucking warranty, you have no business modifying cars. The only warranty a gear head has are is own two hands, the tools in them, and the knowledge he possesses about internal combustion.

I would take an unmolested, broken down 98 Eclipse GSX over your brand new 2011 Merc/BMW/Lexus any day of the week…why you ask? Getting your hands in the oil and grime and BUILDING the machine yourself is just as much of the fun as driving her at the end of the day. And there’s a special satisfaction knowing you didn’t need to succumb to someone else to do it. That and…because when I smoke check your ass at the redlight while you were trying to show off in front of your girl, youre going to realize you dropped 60k on a car that just got beat by my junkyard god. “But my car is nice inside with the leather interior and on star?” Bitch please…you’re talking to a guy that believes A/C is an optional ammenity.

And BTW…1000 HP is a raging pain in the ass. DCR (Darrel Cox Racing) has a 2004 Dodge Neon with 1100 horses. It runs a 7.9? second 1/4 mile. Don’t believe me? Call them yourself. I did. They shattered every piece of that car with forged internals, twin big turbo kits, and a built automatic transmission at least 4 times over before getting it to make a pass without falling apart. Aaaaand…it’s not street legal. Even if it was, you’d be in the shop replacing parts more than you would be driving around.
