Thinking seriously about moving back to NC. Right now I’m a certified flight communicator and emergency medical dispatcher so I can do either of those jobs. Or whatever is available.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me something helpful about the lay of the land out there and what can be expected, cost of living etc…what they like or don’t like about it.
My current gf lives in Asheville and I have visited her a few times. I have spent some time in the main part of the city so I have a decent feel for it. It seems like it is a younger crowd which may be a good thing. There are a lot of fun things to do that are in walking distance. For example, it was really simple to walk from a restaurant to the movie theater and then to an ice cream place after.
There are a lot of mom and pop shops which I find really cool. It is also close to a few cool attractions (Biltmore Estate, Navitat Zipline Canopy Adventures, and the mountains in Tennessee aren’t too far away). I will say that is very hippy-dippy there. Overall, my gf and her family all seem happy there. As far as cost of living I cannot say for certain. I can see it going either way. Like I said there is a young crowd so I am sure it is not terrible but my gf’s parents are also well off so I have no clue.
I don’t live there but did enjoy visiting. Has the vibe of a college town, felt very much like Ann Arbor Michigan. If you are very conservative you will hate it.
