Hey guys, next year im going to be an exchange student in the US, so i was wondering which state you think i should go to? California and NY is currently full.
I want to be in a state with an ok clima, and where people generally are nice people, and not super religious fanatics either. Anyone got any suggestions? Im thinking of Virgina or North Carolina, since its on the coast, but dont really know much about the difference of the states.
Since you’re an exchange student who’s only going to be there for one semester, I’m going to give you some odd advice:
Find a big-time athletics program, and go watch the sports teams play.
If you’re coming in the Fall, find a football factory (preferably one that’s going to put up a legitimate challenge for the national title), and go there.
If you’re coming in the Spring, go to a big basketball school.
I suggest this because you’re coming here for the experience, and there is nothing like being a student at a football powerhouse whose team is gunning for the national championship.
There’s an indescribable electricity in the air, all over campus, every single day, all semester long. Every Saturday is like a holiday, with the entire student body holding its breath up until game-time; then all hell breaks loose for three hours in the stadium. The smoke clears, you see what every other team did around the nation, you see where you stack up, you catch your breath, and start revving up for next week.
You’re coming here for the experience, and IMO, there’s nothing that can replace the campus-wide excitement of the football team going undefeated. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience this. It’s wild!
I knew Norway folk in Colorado that loved it there.
Oregon is great if you like the outdoors and it’s a short road trip to California.
If you’re in your college years go study in Austin (TX) or Tempe (AZ) or one of the FL schools for sure.
Chicago would be your best bet for a big city experience.

I’d go to Florida or Texas or maybe Arizona.
I’d suggest Texas. But then again I’m a little biased. Colorado, Florida, and California are all very nice too.

Going to a big sports school is great(I go to WVU) but if I was only somewhere for a semester or two what would I base my judgement on? WOMEN ha.
Don’t go to VA if you want nice people - lived there long enough to know that no one smiles, you must learn to drive with no fear and much assertion, and road rage is triggered by nothing (watched a guy get pummeled with a bat when I was around 7). Highways in VA are like nothing else.
Some places I like:
Orlando Florida is an awesome city. Tampa is the pits, but Orlando is great. It is a beautiful city, a lot to do, very clean and open, people are nice, only an hour or so drive to Clearwater beach. I was surprised at how great it is the first time I went. Definitely love Orlando.
Boulder or Buena Vista Colorado, if you like the beauty of the outdoors. Denver has a lot to do, but I don’t particularly like staying there. Weather is nice and stable, predictable, and the mountains are absolutely beautiful.
New York Niagara. If you can stand the tourist, it is a nice place. A lot to do there, casinos, some really crazy stuff. Weather can be crazy sometimes, but the Falls are great.

You don’t want to come to Cali anyway …earthquakes, fires, landslides, crime, smog, CELEBRITIES, paparazzi, Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise(we got all kind of problems), illegals, gangs, and our state is supposed to fall off and become part of the ocean soon.
Better try Las Vegas Nevada …it’ll be ocean front property soon and “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

you shouldn’t worry about this. but if you are into sports, you should go to a public not private high school. i was an exchange student around 1.5 years ago. i really got a lot out of it. so just let them surprise you with the state.
ps: my favorite is arizona 
I say Florida if you like beaches, and Oregon or Colorado if you like mountains.
