Just curious to see how many we have here on T-Nation. Thought I would start a thread for these guys(heroes) to post about anything job-related, i.e. day-to-day activity, best parts of the job, worst parts, what their specific, individual training looks like compared to their department’s, etc, etc…
I’m an amateur firefighter. I like to masturbate and eat spaghetti. I slide down the fire pole naked whenever I get a chance.
Well thanks. Are you considering the field, or just curious about it?
Well I’m pretty curious about the lasagna and meatball subs but fires are scary.
Training class starts April 19. Just left active duty back in July and been working towards this since then. Pretty excited. Any advice?
im in the process of applying for the vancouver fire dept (canada) i have 2 uncles who are captains and have grown up with fire fighters. not sure about the states but a lot of fire fighters here are coming close to retirement. in my expierience the young guys are genereally pretty fit. ove here the physical exam no longer includes a long distance run.
anyone who weight trains reasonably seriously for a year shouldnt have a problem with the physical. if you youtube physical challenges for fire fighters there are some videos. im not in a hall but like i said i have 2 family members are a good friend in halls. the stories i have heard give me no doubt in my mind that i want to be a fire fighter.
I think the last stat I saw was that 80% of fire departments in the US are volunteer. I’ve been one for 13 years. being a pro is fine, but don’t think it’s the only way you can be in the fire service.
And walking into a burning house is a major adrenaline rush.
Good idea.
