Any Big Guys Using Rings?

Just an FYI. That pic above is of Jason Gatson. He is not a “big guy”. He is rather short and weighs between 160-165. He is ripped as hell and obviously strong in relation to his size, but not big. Awesome physique, great athlete and if you saw him across the room with his shirt off you would swear he weighed 220. Then as you walk closer you realize he just isn’t very tall. Most gymnasts aren’t.

Anyway, can you get a good workout and have some fun with the rings??? Absolutely. Is it going to make you a better weightlifter? Probably not.

So with the rings what are some movements one can do: We have pull-ups, dips, muscle-ups…what else coudl you do…And also has anyone used parallel bars to go up into a handstand and crank out handstand pushups??

Also, what are other exercises that help/make people better at “controlling” their body and stabalizing?

This site has some good examples of pushups and body pulls using rings. It also has good vids of other exercises. The site is the strength and conditioning program for James Madison University.

Have any of you guys used “Blast Straps” by EliteFTS? I have a pair and have always wondered if you can do as much with them as you can with rings. From my experance I can do most exercises with blast straps (chins, dips, L-sits ect.) that you can do with rings …But I cant get a muscle up yet…
Any opinions?

I have the Blast Straps from Elite and a friend of mine has a set of rings (My friend is an ex-college gymnast, so he has alot odd stuff around his house). I haven’t seen much difference in how they are used. They both kick my ass! Other than the size of the ring compared to the handle of the blast straps, they work pretty much the same.
