After reading around here for the past minute* I have come too see that I am WAY off on the amount of protein im getting each day.
for instance I thought a chicken breast only had like 20g protein. in some cases looks like up 80g.
hmph. dam it. lol
my diet was ( as im changing it as I learn…Im not hitting the gym so I can lift and look the same for ever.) adjusted to reach 160 pounds and hold it. when I first ( as in first rep.) started lifting I was TINY. lol not that im big by any means even now. I figure from what I have seen I need to eat double of what I have been for the next year to get to 180 ish.

really ? lol I got this guy at our gym who got so pissed when he saw me eating a whole pepperoni pizza after working out. ( mind you I already had muscle milk.) said I was waisting money and time if I was going to eat that kind of fat.
ps @ short hoss A: vegeta is awesome! ( sue me I grew up watching DB/DBZ)
B: isnt it true that you can only gain a pound and a half of lean muscle a month any way? wouldnt the rest be fat?

LOL, no. Why do you think the human body grows in a linear fashion?

Oh my fucking goodness.
I did. (nearly finished this thread, but seriously, WTF??)
I find eating junk food is just a waste of money.
Take some time early in the week or on the weekend, cook up a big pot of food (pasta, tuna, eggs, cheese, tomato, mushrooms, pumpkin, all mixed together with whatever spices you want), and eat that during the week.
Buy some kind of bases, make your own pizzas up, cook them all, freeze them, then just nuke them if you want a feed.
Now just don’t read the post I’m about to add to the new food thread LOL

I would never recommend snickers bars, but the truth is, many of these guys will hold back their own progress by being more worried about how “clean” they are eating instead of whether they are getting enough calories in.
A 20 something extremely active guy who trains with weights 6 times a week has very little to fear from a fucking hamburger or a pizza.

Agree with X on this. It took me two years of force-feeding to gain 70 pounds. I say go for it, eat some cheeseburgers and fried chicken, make six tuna fish sandwiches a day, whatever it takes to gain.
If you’re worried about fat gain, when I went back to eating clean I dropped 25 pounds of fat in four months without even trying.
Log your food, lifts, and weekly bodyweight. All three MUST go up each week. Shoot for a pound of bodyweight a week. Realize you will need to eat progressively more to stay on the Gain Train.
Consistency is all that really matters.

Same as anyone else, you eat plenty more than maintenance (for more than a week…), you train hard and heavy, you recover, you eat some more, you train again, have a nap, eat more train more rest more… see the pattern?
If i was a category, i would have to be an Ecto-mesomorph. I say that because i was not tall and had decent muscle there - unlike an ecto - but i was very slim and struggled to gain fat IF i could gain weight - unlike a meso.
Truthfully, it took me years to realise quite how much i needed to eat to gain. It is alot - actually, more importantly it isn’t that it is that much, it needs to be consistently high.
And lastly i will add - in order to gain weight at 22 and around 140lbs (5’8") i was eating 3500kcals… but honestly with my metabolism back then 4500-5000kcals would have been more accurate. These days 4000kcal will give me a jolt in weight and i am significantly heavier than 140lbs. It is my metabolism as an older man compared to a younger man… simply put. Eat more - food is the most anabolic tool you have.
so I sat down yesterday and actually counted every carb I get and just at dinner I got 600g of carbs. looks like what ever calculator I originally used to find out what I needed was WAY to small on it. because I was barely full after that. Well what can ya say, every one has to learn how to do it right at some point or they fail.
so now I know how much I got yesterday for instance but how much do i want to take in through out the day?
