I was talking about the extreme. Being morbidly obese.
Why. Did I hit a nerve with you?

Just because I do not respect someone doesn’t mean that I would actively go out of my way to show it. Just because I do not respect someone doesn’t mean I would treat them like shit, either.
It doesn’t mean I don’t like them, it doesn’t mean that I maybe wouldn’t admire them in some ways, but I DO think that whether or not a person gives a shit about their health is an indicator of whether or not I should waste my time giving a shit about them.
As for hitting a nerve with this guy, I realized a long ago that he mostly posts just to see himself talk.

Yah, riiiight. So every roll of fat that sticks out can brush/bump you on the way as a fatass passes by.
Clever…

So you believe its fine to outwardly disrespect or discriminate against a morbidly obese person?
To clarify, I mean discriminate in a way that has no logical connection to their physical size (i.e. not having a seat large enough for them on a bus is not discrimination, but denying them membership to a club would be).

Uh…wow. So I say that fat people deserve to be shown the same respect as people who aren’t fat…
So, first you agree with me…then claim I only post just to see myself talk.
Genius.
Wtf is this “Did I hit a nerve?” bullshit…
Society is funny in the way lemmings go with what happens to be popular at the moment.
60 years ago someone could have been saying the same things about it being ok to disrespect a black person… and you cowards wouldnt have said anything. But today? You’d jump down their throat.
Why? Because its not socially acceptable to be racist anymore.
But as far as discriminating against a group that its still “ok” to be bigoted towards? Such as gays or the overweight? Well shit, its a big problem if anybody speaks up in their defense. You must have “hit a nerve”.
Again, the problem couldnt be you. Must be me just whining.
lol.
is this the sexy beast thread or am i in the wrong place?

Why do you keep bringing up “black people”? You have done this over SEVERAL posts in SEVERAL threads. Do you think this makes you clever? You just can’t think of any other minorities so we get the pleasure? Aside from Michael Jackson, most of us don’t have shit to do with what color we happen to be.
Morbidly obese people can lose weight. I personally would be pissed off if I woke up tomorrow and my “black” was missing.
Please, find a new tool to use for your analogies. I mean, I know you think you are dropping some knowledge bombs on us, but from here it looks more like drizzles of puerility.

I find its a usable analogy because its a form of bigotry that was once popular and accepted, but is now demonized and refuted.
But I suppose I must be crazy to compare a form of bigotry to… another form of bigotry.
Or maybe you’re just mad because you can see the connection too, and you don’t want to admit that being a homophobe or disrespecting fat people makes someone no better than those who, years ago, figured it was ok to do/say the same things about YOU.
But hell, maybe you’re right. Any suggestions for other cases of formerly accepted bigotry that are now unacceptable?
And yeah, I’m totally dropping knowledge bombs on you guys.
Shockers like:
-bigotry is bad
and
-you shouldn’t disrespect people even if they are fat.
Hell, I should like… write a book or summthin…

You truly are the king of false analogies. You remind me of the protagonist in “Anchor Man.” You are a self-parody.
Blackness is an immutable characteristic. It does not occur because of a series of bad choices. Also, last time I checked, fat people weren’t hung from trees for looking at skinny people.
Now, if you want to argue that the way people mock homosexuals is shameful, you have something there. (Some contend that being gay is a “choice”; those people also disregard evolution, so who cares what they think?)
Or, if your broader point is that we should treat people equally regardless of whether they are fact or ugly, you also have something there.
But your analogy is, as usual, lame.

yes I had to look up puerility

LOL. I am as white as the driven snow and I think your black = morbidly was a (typically) lame analogy.

Clearly, comparing a form of bigotry to a form of bigotry is “lame”.
I suppose I shouldnt compare a toaster to a radio (small electrical household appliances) because a toaster doesnt play music and a radio cant heat up bread.
Because, CLEARLY, if there are any differences between the items being compared, the analogy totally falls apart.
But yes, my broader point is that fat people deserve to be treated with as much respect as people who aren’t fat.
I really don’t get why that is such a problem.
CappedAndPlanIt wrote:
Generally, no. When you understand why, you will be ready to start using analogies again. Until then, avoid them.
CappedAndPlanIt wrote:

I can agree with this. If I said, “I don’t hang out with poor people,” people would throw a fit. Yet people who are poor generally are poor because they (like obese people) make bad choices.
If I said I hate Christians because they made the bad choice to believe in something that does not exist, people would get riled up.
If I said any college student who didn’t have a 3.5 GPA is a total loser for choosing to not study hard, I’d catch hell.
So I agree with your broader point that people don’t really have a standard they apply when determining whether bigotry is kosher. Why is it wrong to hate fat people but not to hate poor people or people with bad grades? As with everything else, the ability to emphasize plays a role.
Generally, a poor people won’t like the anti-poor bias because, well, they are poor and thus understands what it’s like to be treated badly because of this. They’ll also yell: “I’m not poor by choice! I hate being poor!” When you tell those people to sign off from the Internet and find a financially-viable way to spend their time, you’ll get a whole slew of excuses why this can’t be done. (Sort of like with fat people when it comes to losing weight.)
Anyhow, I don’t care whether someone is fat, poor, or religious. I’ve been fat, poor, and religious at various points in my life, and I’m pretty much the same person now that I was then. I like or dislike people for a whole host of reasons, but those just don’t play a role in whether or not I like someone.
Capped, I have no sympathy for fat people who whine about it, and I agree with you about not judging fat people only on their fatness.
But c’mon!
Choosing to not look snazzy at the gym is not disrespecting yourself.
Working minimum wage is not necessarily disrespecting yourself.
Being black is not the same as being fat!
Damn son, put some thought into your analogies.

Yep, Obesity, diabetes all the “lifestyle diseases”, = natural selection of the weak minded
“Fat people deserve respect AND should be working towards losing weight and becoming more healthy.”
I’m 100% with “The Capt’n” on this one…and is why I also beat my head up against the wall with “NAFFA’s” stance sometimes.
Like Capt’n, they totally lose my support when they get into the “Its a Healthy Lifestyle/It hasn’t been proven to be unhealthy/Help me be Healthy and Fat” realm.
(I haven’t looked over the site in a while; but they used to post an obituary of members whom had died. They were a) often young and b) represented a litany of obesity related health problems. You would have thought that would be a “wake-up” call).
However…everyone deserves all the respect and dignity I can give them…
