Yesterday morning I woke up feeling a bit off all day with a sharp pain on the right side of my abdomen. Did not think much of it and when to go teach my elementary PE classes. The pain became increasing worse throughout the day. During the middle of my 5th class it hurt so bad it brought me too my knees luckily one of the kids realized something was wrong and grabbed a nearby teacher who drove me to the hospital emergency room. I was then given an appendectomy.
This may have been the most pain I have ever felt in my life and could not have come at a worse time. I still plan on competing. The doctor told me not to train for at least 2 weeks, I do not want to make a mistake rushing back into training and hurting myself further, but I really do not wanna wait 2 weeks to train with my competition right around the corner I am gonna keep up some low intensity cardio and try to listen to start lifting as soon as possible.
I was doing great on my diet and should be able to maintain that pretty easily. What are some tips on how to eat while no training? and what kind of things can I do to hide the scar on stage?[/quote]
That sucks im sorry to hear that! i hope youre able to keep going man!
I am gonna keep on going absolutely. Doctor said that just about anything can cause it but thinks it may have been my “high saturated fat and cholesterol while dieting.” When I asked him to back this up with any research not only did he not supply any articles but came at me like I am an idiot saying it is common knowledge that kind of eating can cause a myriad of health problems.

Well the illness sucks.
Also doctors are too important to be challenged by a mere patient, please never do this again!

Well of course! Everyone knows lots of things about diet and training… for example
-You can’t gain muscle without steroids
-everyone must do 3 sets of 10 reps before switching exercises
-Special-K cereal and little Dannon yogurt cups will get you in shape… lol
Just get by with whatever you can, realize that you won’t be tearing through as many calories each day for a while, and bust your ass once you’re fully able to. Good luck!
Thanks for the info Stu, I have been going about weight training all long. I am struggling eating, every time I try I am still getting a little nauseous, I think it is from the pain medicine. I have also been getting up and going for little walks outside since the weather has been so nice. Over the weekend I was able to put down 1000 calories total. 50 calorie shakes I whipped up. I am starting to think liquid meals is the way to go until I feel better.
I have been dreaming and thinking about training for the last 3 days I cannot wait to get under the bar again.
McBride- I have been spending my off time looking at all the posing information you gave me. Thank you so much not only has it helped for contest reasons but with boredom as well.
My brother completely torn his labrum last year a month out from a contest. He did what he was able to do in the gym, and locked down his diet as best as he could. Actually, he couldn’t even practice his posing, so he watched videos over and over until he figured he’d memorized everything he needed to know. Definitely a test of character.

(Oh yeah, my brother ended up winning his class - definitely a display of bad-ass-ness if I ever saw one)
ditch the opiates and get on some medical marijuana! otherwise keep up with the shakes as much as possible. When can you get back in the gym, if even for some minor lifting?
