Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

I was thinking:

Squat:
week 1: 5x8- 75% (75kg)
week 2: 5x9-75%
week3: 5x10-75%
week 4: 5x8- 80% (80kg)
week 2: 5x9-80%
week3: 5x10-80%

Is this too much?

For ME this would be way too much. But your mileage may differ.

If you can hit 5 sets of 10 with 80% based on a true max then I take my hat off to you.

I am a small human who does not squat very much weight in the grand scheme of things :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Good luck with 5x10@80%

If you can pull it off…it wasn’t 80% :joy:

Whilst I get that the load is different as you get stronger, the same rules still generally apply. If you can do 5 x 10 with what you think is 80% then it really just means you need more practice with low reps and are stronger than you think.

My 1rm squat is 100kg and I can do 10-12 reps at 80 kg smoothly

Yeah not particularly unusual for a lady! Or a Woman, or a girl…I don’t even know what is PC anymore. Haha.

But I do suggest you can sqaut more than 100kg. Which is excellent by the way.

If.you want to be a larger human, take that 10-12 reps with 80, and turn it into 10-12 reps with 87.5-90kg.

Then you will be bigger. Haha.

I think with hypertrophy training, especially for a natural lifter, 2-3 harder sets to near technical failure can be more efficient than 5-6 sets of 10 reps that are easy. Providing you eat plenty, rest plenty, focus on all that out of the gym stuff, I think it will work better for you. Without these things in place, nothing is going to be awesome long term.

I get the arguments for higher volumes. I do. But there is also a nice and rather important relationship between volume and intensity that needs to be addressed. I’ve seen many people at higher levels work in that high volume/high set numbers only to be torn down by it towards the end of a block - especially in the strength sports world where most of my attention is typically focussed.

But, I digress. This is why I love this forum, the many different opinions, viewpoints, experiences, that all come together as one is surely helpful to anyone looking to improve.

My top end strength drops off fast. I can only do 5 with90 on a good day

Considering most dudes can’t squat 100kg I think you are doing awesome (isn’t this >2XBW?)

yeah, my goal is 3x at some point

I’m more disappointed at the 2 year plateau

This. Thats actually huge.

Random: I went off the rails with diet yesterday.

Today, my temperature perception is way off today. It was 42 outside today, 39with windchill but it felt warm enough to go outside in just my undershirt whereas it was 50 two days ago and I needed a jacket

Other:
I’ve noticed that I experience very very large swings in self esteem depending on whether I am interacting with behavioural ppl or Econ ppl. With behavioural ppl, I’m told and feel that I’m ahead of the game. Then, as soon as I spend more than 10min with my Econ friends, I feel completely hopeless. I love Econ and really want to be more quantitative but it really sucks feeling so behind.

Humidity seems to be the player here for me. I was in North Dakota where it’d get to -60 with windchill, and I’d regularly be hanging out at 0/sub zero in just a t-shirt toward the end of winter. Moved to the central coast of CA and it’d get to 40 degrees and I’d be shivering because that coastal humidity would just get in my bones.

That first day at 20 degrees feels like summer after 3 months of hunkering down in the dark and cold.

It’s wild how readily the body acclimates. All the shorts come out, haha. My internal thermostat is broken from my time there: anything above 40 has me sweating.

Rest day, but got in a 20min hard incline walk

I completely bombed a midterm today :sob:
Not a big deal in the grad scheme of things, but really sucks to do so poorly on something relatively simple

Cosequence is that I stress ate and went 800kcal over what I had planned.
@QuadQueen any tips?
