Graph Theory is pretty cool; I use it every now and then for algorithmic optimization purposes. You can go quite far down the rabbit hole in terms of its application!
edit: Linear Algebra is pretty straight forward. There’s no real “gotcha’s” that can make life difficult in that area.
Yeah!!
I want to do social network analysis and thought it would be really good understand the mathematical foundations.
First lecture was yesterday and the first example was Shannon capacity. I’m a sucker for anything that has to do with information so that really got me excited.
I’m an optimization scientist first and a software engineer second. The dept I work in, you need to be able to wear both hats. This is the guy who heads up all Operations Research at Amazon; and my managers manager.
Yep. I dabbled in the sustainable energy part of research first 1.5 years out of college, but it was so goddamn tedious and not very engaging. Being able to see stuff you work on, going live and impacting millions of orders is goddamn cool. Maybe take a look at Ops Research
I got an interview request from UCLA. I’m pretty happy. Now time to read papers like mad to prep.
Holy shite maths is hard. Idk how the maths majors do it. Graph theory and real 2 are flying over my head. Good thing I have a robust support network. Linear algebra isn’t too bad yet. The computation is just tedious and for some reason, those minus signs never show up in the right places……
Squat: 1x4-50,60,70; 3x6-80kg
Deadlift: 1x4-80,90,100, 1x3-110, 2x2-120kg, 2x3-115lbs
Conventional dl: 3x6-80kg
Lying leg raise: 5x24
Conditioning: 3x10, 3x12, 3x14- alt 1 arm kbs, 40lb kb, EMOM
doesn’t look like much but this took damn near 2hrs… the top set was way harder than I would have liked- I used to be able to do sets of 5 at 120 but not surprised after taking a month off deadlifting and having deadlifted only 2 days prior, squats were smooth
I crushed my first grad school interview yesterday. They seemed really impressed with me. The programme actually sounds a lot nicer than I expected and I didn’t get weird family vibes from these two profs.
This is now actually a major contender
I still have to meet a third prof later this week, but things are looking very good.
The only downside of choosing this programme would be living in LA instead of San Diego
Squat: 1x5-50,60,70; 3x5-80kg, all beltless
Lying leg raises: 4x13/side
Good mornings: 5x5-60kg, superset w/24alt body weight lunges
Bench: 1x10-35, 1x8-40, 1x6-45,1x6-50kg; 2x3-55kg, paused
Conditioning: 6x(5db cleans/side-45lb db+ 10pushups+ 20alt body weight lunges)
felt pretty good going in- definitely still riding a high, squats were very smooth but wrecked after, good mornings and bench were a slog, conditioning was fun but tough
I was completely wiped after this workout, I need to work on my conditioning
