Nooooo.

A lot of people I’ve worked with actually turn down promotion into management because it puts an end to O.T. pay and you’re expected to do way too much over 40hrs. Plus, a guy thats good at his job is not necessarily a good manager, so they’re jumping in to the deep end with no life preserver.

For a lot of folks its the beginning of their end.

That seems like a system that strongly encourages people to be on time. It sounds like a good idea as long as it’s not wielded by assholes.

From what I recall, retail shift work (only place I worked at, so I can’t say for other hourly positions) had you working 6-7 hours and always below 40, giving employers a bit of leeway as far as going into overtime was concerned. It definitely felt like a huge juggling act and my employer got pissed when I started giving shifts away because I decided that I wanted to study for grad school at a some point.

I dunno if 55% is statistically significant.
My gut reaction to that info is that managers tend to feel that they’re already getting paid about as much as they can barring some significant change, so they’d like more paid time off.

Further, I agree with cyclonengineer and SkyzykS- managers tend to work a lot more and be under significantly more stress compared to ‘individual contributors’.

I find it really hard to manage people. You need to constantly be aware of what they’re doing and have a good idea of their skillset and abilities. You need to review their work and give the final ok to everything because you are the manager. It is your responsibility that the work done by your subordinates are done correctly. Responsibilities are very heavy, and that’s why I think a lot of managers end up being poor managers.

And this is all on top of the work you’re doing. Any technical job that isn’t willfully wasting its money will probably have managers doing technical tasks as well, so it’s not like the manager is just managing people.

It’s a lot of stress and I think it takes a certain kind of people to do well in it. Not everyone can manage people.

So, ya, I’m sure managers would like to have an extra week or month to get away from that craziness and just relax on a tropical beach somewhere than paid more.

@anna_5588 i’d agree with @magick. I’m probably biased being from a retail background but hourly paid colleagues are far, far closer to the breadline than managers and therefore far more likely to be incentivised by money.

Week 2: day 3

Bench: 1x5-60,75,85lbs; 1x3-105, 115, 1x4-125; 4x12-85lbs
Front raises: 5x12-10lb dbs
Db military press: 3x10
Incline bench: 3x12-75lbs
Conditioning: 4x(1min kickboxing-heavy bag+30sec air squats)

  • really tired but pressing felt nice, love the boxing, will miss it when I leave

Week 2: day 4

Squat: 1x3-95, 135, 155; 1x3- 175, 185, 1x4-195lbs; 4x12-145lbs
Lying leg raises: 6x13
Good morning: 4x10-115lbs, superset with 20alt bodyweight lunges
Conditioning: 4x (100 alt walking lunges, walk up stairs)

  • this was an awesome workout, the squats went smooth, definitely had 1-2 more reps in the tank on the top set but form was breaking down so stopped it, back was the limiting factor on the back off sets, good mornings felt good too- took long rests though

Random updates:

  • met my supervisor in person today. She is super nice. It was kind of funny bc one of the first things she asked was why everything I had on my was black (black tshirt, black dress pants, black bag, black water bottle, black phone). Now that I think about it, it is kind of a “brand” thing at this point :joy:
    Her expectations seem quite low, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get a rec letter

  • Going to hang out with some Econ ppl this weekend and next!
    We are going to a brewery tomorrow and one of them invited me to his birthday party next Saturday

  • My schedule next semester is perfect, only 1 class Mondays and Fridays, earliest class is at 10, latest class ends at 4:30
    It’s going to be a grind, but at least I have max flexibility

What does a rest day look like?

Replace workout with a 50-60min easy walk (not counted in steps)

What changes would you make to calories to account for this?

Nothing. The calorie cycling thing is too confusing for me

Then, yes, take a rest. And remember, you probably need a calorie surplus if you have some serious recovering to do.

Week 2: day 5 (yesterday)

Incline treadmill walk: 6x(2min- 2.2mph 12%incline+ 2min- 2.4mph 12.5% incline+ 2min- 2.6mph 23% incline), 4min 2.2mph 12% incline

  • felt better in the pm so decided to do some cardio, this felt really good, it was hard but manageable while doing it, but I was wrecked after stepping off the treadmill

Week 2: day 6

I was going to take today off but was inspired by @SvenG so decided that 15min > 0

5min Emom of each group, all w/25 lb dbs

  1. 5 devils press
  2. 3x(2cleans+3front squats+1press)
  3. 6 renegade rows

Updates:

  1. Had a LOT of fun with the Econ ppl last evening. There were so many cool beers and it would have made for a good blog post, but I can’t drink

  2. Dad really wants me to retake GRE. I really don’t want to and my advisor said I don’t have to, but he’s right in that it could increase my chances of getting my programme of choice. The thing is that this test causes me anxiety
