Week 3: Day 6

Farmers walks: 10x25m- 65lb DB in one hand, 70lb DB in the other (mistake)
curls: 3x6-20kg
RDL: 10x10-60kg
Deadbugs: 5x10/leg
Tricep pushdowns: 3x20-17.5lbs

  • Turns out I was not as destroyed as expected- mostly my upper back pissed, also, my straps arrived so I decided to take them for a spin. The farmers walks were really fun and harder than expected- grip is dead… RDLS really worked back and hamstrings, not as bad as expected

Holy crap I’m inflamed…

Week 3: Day7

Squat: warm up to 80kg, 1x11-80 kg!! ; 4x5-80, beltless
Good mornings: 5x10-40kg
Db plank crossovers: 5x10/side-27.5lbs
Conditioning: 10x(20sec jump squats+10sec rest)

  • crushed this, considering what I did the past few days, the rep PR is a very big surprise tk say the least @SvenG, with that said… there no way I could have pushed to 20, even rest paused, without hurting myself, good mornings felt amazing

This week is my “deload”

Moving forward: heavily modified Sheiko

  • splitting up the workouts (6days vs 3days)
  • the Russian fighter pull-up program
  • daily cardio/conditioning

Deload: day1

Db snatches: 1x100, 2x60, 2x50, 2x40, all w/ 30lb db, alternating @dagill2
Deadbug: 7x10/side

  • I set up a 50min time cap and got as close to 500 as possible, the deadbugs were supersetted with the snatches, got 400 in 46 mins and decided not to continue, overall awesome workout

500 reps of anything seems like an odd way to deload. Usually volume goes down and intensity stays fairly high.

I’m deloading in the sense that I want a break from the barbell. I’m not really physically fatigued

Also, it’s going to be a while before I’ll get to really play around with these db lifts since it’ll be 3 months of sheiko

Deload: Day 2

@Voxel here’s your low volume, high intensity

DB cleans: 4x1/side-60lbs; 3x3/side-55lbs
Jumps: 3x(5+3 depth jumps)-30inches
Cable rows: 5x(10-55lbs+20 pushups)

  • took things very easy and played around with cleans a bit and took things REALLY REALLY slow, idk if this actually counts as a workout LOL

speaking of which: the result of cleans

Tomorrow will be back at it with some devil’s presses

Deload: day 3 (yesterday)
No devils presses…

10x(25m farmers carries-60lb dbs+25m lunges + 25m walk back)
Weighted pullups-6x2-5kg
Db snatches: amrap 5min- 92 with 27.5lb db

  • felt really good, another one of those “forgot to quit” workouts, really really happy w/the db snatches.

Updates: warning - long read

  • mentioned in the happy thread: I’m going to interview one of the hosts of my favourite podcast! I got in contact bc one of the regular members of the meetup group I attend has a business partner who was a former coworker wjth the podcast host. Turns out this podcast host is also good friends with the advisor on my independent project from last semester
  • I officially have three research advisors now :joy: I want to do economic modeling in my thesis project and my current advisor for my thesis doesn’t do Econ. This is great bc I now have 4 choices for rec letters!
  • my Behavioural science friend got into the UChicago marketing PhD program!!! This friend is like my academic older brother

Who???
You’ve mentioned listening to a lot of mindpump… Could it be??

No. Not mind pump lol :joy:

Tim Houlihan from Behavioural grooves.

It’s a pretty small Behavioural science podcast but well known in the community.

On a similar note: I want to convince Tim to interview one of the mindpump guys. Healthy habits are a hot topic in the Behavioural sciences but there’s a pretty big divide between the academics and actual practitioners (trainers, coaches…)

Is that your upper arm? How are you bruising it so badly?

my wrist

The DBs at my school are weird. They are relatively thin but have a large diameter. If I’m not careful, the end hits my wrist

Steuggling to picture that, but ok. I don’t remember the last time i dumbbell cleaned though, to be honest. Maybe thats normal.
