Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

If it’s properly stored, leave it there.

If you want to do something nice but possibly more complicated, arrange to have the

pick it up. Maybe even have them clean out the entire sorority house pantry or how ever that is arranged.

they pick up?? great!

vacum sealed in industrial cooler. Problem is that it’d be there for over 6 months if we go full remote and this becomes necessary

I’m sure some kind of arrangement can be made.

You might even get some kind of helping the community cred out of it.

I’m seeing a confusing picture here.

In dorm sits a cache of frozen chicken you don’t have access to, and at home is another noteworthy quantity of food you’re concerned you won’t be able to finish before its time to leave for your dorm, if that doesn’t get shut down.

So how does it come about that you have these quantities of food that you may not be able to use?

I just found this an area of interest with this information in addition to the exchange yesterday.

In the case of the meat at school, I screwed up the order and got too much. I know it would hold over break so the idea was that I’d go back and not order meat for another month or so

IN the case of the meat at home, it’s not mine technically. My dad overestimated the amount of pork he needed. My little bro doesn’t really like stir fries and I’d ordered enough other meats for myself and my little bro. THe plan was to bring the pork back to pgh and roast it

Ok.

I can destroy some Sichuan pork & broccoli stir fries.

The Giant Eagle near me has these sales every so often where all pork products will be like $1.29-1.49/lb, and I’d get like 30 or 40 lbs. at a time.

I’ll ask somebody I know down there what they think the likelihood of another shut down is.

Random thoughts/rants

  1. I wish I was more competitive. I HATE competition. the pressure gets to me and I crumble. This is bad bc academia is extremely competitive. Apparently most women (largely due to social training) are less competitive and this puts them behind. How can I change this?
  2. Sometimes I really wish there wasn’t a need for the behavioural sciences.
  3. Why is that women are so much more likely to start annoying drama, join MLMs and be so emotional over romance stuff
  4. @cyclonengineer probability theory is breaking my brain. I also realize that I suck at calc… time to review
  5. THe GRE is f-king stupid.
  6. I used to not believe mum when she said that STEM education made ppl more logical. I now 100% believe her now. On a side note, why is it that non- STEM classes are “softer”. The professors are more lax, less work, more social- justice oriented… On the one hand, it’s kind of nice that classes are easy, but on the other hand, I really enjoyed how my diff eq prof went on with lectures and psets without mentioning the pandemic, or how in my emerging market class, we could model economic growth in emerging markets without spending 1/2 the lecture moping about inequality or human rights abuses. I am very annoyed by the “anti- corporate” culture. I’ve gotten shit from classmates for wanting to invest, for expressing interest in estate planning and not being supportive of political movements. Fortuantely, most of my friends do understand. I can only imaging what it would be like to be at a less STEM university

Yeah probability involves a whole new way of thinking about numbers (I am by no means good at it either).

I agree with you that the GRE is pointless.

Unfortunately, it’s crucial for the type of econ stuff I want to do.

I recently learned continuous distribution stuff, and it’s amazing bc all the stuff in papers I was struggling with is now clear. It’s amazing

Keeping those things working also requires being fatter and less active than I like…

To be clear, I was absolutely goofing with that. It is my characteristic “perfectly wrong answer”.

It’s wrong through multiple dimensions. Factually, socially, morally, etc.

Ok, good.

I stunned my wife’s family (even after 17 years) this Thanksgiving when we were talking about table arrangement and I said to my sis in law in a faux deep, elevated voice “Lemme mansplain something about geometry to you, little missy. This ain’t no shopping bag from Macy’s…”.

Then I froze and ducked like I was diving under the table, and we all had a good laugh.

The vast majority of those kids luxuriate in the benefits of corporate culture and treat entire life circumstances of huge swaths of the globe as a dalliance.

They don’t know it but they’re in the perfect grooming ground to become exactly what they complain about.

Yeah, levitt (freakonomics guy) et al did some studies where they showed that women were less competitive (less likely to participate in competitive tasks, apply to jobs with high competition) than men but when they tried in a matrilineal society, the results reversed

One of my profs also did studies showing that women were less likely to negotiate and less likely to play up achievements; other studies show that women perceived as more negative when assertive (bossy bitch)
The ethics literature also suggests that women are less strategic, but I think I can defy that pretty easy with my Econ training and relatively low ethical sensitivity

I personally don’t think my problems are gender bias related though. I think it’s more personality

Take a look at my field. Everyone is competitive. Some even past the point of being cut throat

My point is that I wish I were better at dealing with cutthroat environments
