Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

Not necessarily.

I get much more than just fitness info here.
Also, I’m going to lift regardless, Tnation is a good place to get lifting advice from trusted sources

Also, I have very few ppl outside of Tnation who care about my lifting. It’s nice to talk with ppl who understand the frustration when I don’t hit a goal.
Most ppl just say “you already lift a lot”

How does what someone else did apply to what you should do?

If I’m considering going back to school and I see someone else doing that and crushing it, should that have any bearing on my decision?

To be fair, people get praise for doing hard work, they don’t get praise for doing more work than you. I don’t read a log and go “Hey, your volume is much greater than what X is putting in and that means that you are awesome”. Everyone is cheered along relative to their own efforts.

How many people here do you think do their training sessions to be praised by the rest of the community? Do you believe this is a sound attitude to have towards training? To do it for praise by others?

yes. When I read other ppl’s logs, it makes me feel like I’m slacking off

very few if any. I don’t
praise is a signal for what is valued

If it makes you feel any better I’m completely off the rails. Even had Chinese buffet for lunch :joy: no real workouts in a while either. Been staying up late and even drinking a little lol

You log is extremely valuable… for other reasons… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

In all seriousness though, I’ve learned a lot from it

It’s all a balance and just going with the eb and flow. I still have those same strong desires and goals, just taking a mental break. I’m ready to be back, just trying to crank the motivation train :joy:.

It’s also been a massive weight off my shoulder to not be looking for progress. Been trying extremely hard to be positive and not let the bad days bother me. It’s definitely helped my quality of life as well as mental state. It was super hard and I still have bad days but it’s been liberating to just let go. I’ve gone backwards, but I know I can get back.

Keeping up with the Joneses is tough, taking some time off of reading other people’s logs and/or just getting off social media (this site included) helps me significantly

And yet

That’s a trigger leading to unhealthy behavior patterns.

So the answer to the “have you considered” part of my question is a resounding “No”, but were I to pose it as, “IS it unhealthy for you to be on a fitness forum”, you’ve written like 5 posts just today that prove how unhealthy it is for someone with compulsive exercise behavior to be on a place where fit people post brutal workouts and physique pictures.

It’s not unhealthy for an average person to be part of a wine-tasting club, but if that person is an alcoholic…you get the point. Other people have mentioned addictions in here, but at least for them, exercise was the substitution for their addictions - their primary addictions were going to kill them. If exercise is your primary addiction, being part of a fitness community that glorifies driving yourself into the ground is probably the most unhealthy thing you could do.

Anyways - this is kind of a final thought of mine on the situation because it’s kind of upsetting to see how many people can pile up, with me being one of them, when sometimes you just want a pat on the back or some acknowledgement of how hard you’re working, and you just get a bunch of crap instead. You’re a hard worker. There’s just many kinds of hard work, is all.

I’m also aware that a bunch of people badgering someone rarely, if ever, elicits a complete mental 180 resulting in new habits and the elimination of bad ones, so I apologize for doing more harm than good a lot of the time. I think I’ve said I’d back out of your log before so that’s my bad for not being firm about it - this is your space.

Exactly

I can’t emphasize this enough.
Especially during the pandemic, sometimes the only good thing that would happen is that I got a few extra reps in my workout. Mum might be yelling, research stalled, my friend one upped me (not his fault).
I post here expecting to get some positivity and all I get is more berating
Now it’s better since school is going reasonably well, but it still stings when my PRs get a huge asterisk.

I know I’m not exactly killing it like you Chonglorduno, Sven or pwn but I’d like to think that there aren’t that many women my size squatting close to 2 plates or pressing over 95% bodyweight for that matter

You don’t have to do that. I like dialogue in my log

I think you’re impressive as hell :tipping_hand_man: I’ve mentioned some of your lifts in conversation in real life with other female lifters. I leave out the I know you from on the line part :joy: but you’re one who comes up when ever I’m talking lifting with females. Probably the strongest pound for pound female I know of outside of genetic freaks me juiced up pros.

I also thought about your wild ass step count the other day when I hit 30k and my feet and ankles were swollen :joy:

Also excited to see you making PR’s!

Anna, no joke: if I had posted my LDL numbers and still kept training and eating the way I was because an 800lb deadlift was more important than my heart, I would be getting berated in my log. I know that for certain.

Except you are, just in your own way. There’s more to the story than what their workouts look like of course, but you’ve heard plenty of that. To say you’re not killing it when you’ve demonstrated some enviable strength output is silly. We just want you to kill it from multiple angles.
