Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

That’s not living, if you ask me, haha. When done responsibily, a healthy dose of the things you listed are absolutely important, beneficial parts of our lives.

I agree, but it’s realistically what would have to happen if I’d decided to switch majors.

My friend(that one) very much just locks himself in his room (or in the library) and works. The results (academically) speak for themselves

I suppose if it gets him closer to his goals then good for him, but yeah…I just personally have never wanted that to be what my life became about. I’m not bashing it, I just don’t understand it.

To each their own, I suppose.

I don’t WANT to live like that but I really wish I could be okay living like that

People who are shut-ins like that might appear to be okay with it, but they almost never are. I doubt it is quite as simple with your friend as it appears to be.

I am an introvert. I am perfectly at ease in my own company and don’t really need social interactions the way most people do. I very much wish this was not the case.

I’m very similar. My biggest concern about that is that people often read that as me disliking others, which is absolutely untrue. I care very much about many people, and like most people, I just don’t feel the need to interact with them.

Yeah, agreed, it has nothing to do with empathy.

Week 6: day5 (yesterday)

Too short to use leg press so replaced with front squats at 60kg.
Also threw in 3 sets fo weighted pull-ups in the pm bc friend was doing them

  • legs felt pretty tired but the squats(and front squat) flew up, I think I’m in for a pretty big PR soon, pull-ups also getting better. Hit 5 with 10lbs. Want to get to 10 with 10lbs by my birthday

Parents came to visit yesterday and we went out for Korean bbq. Definitely went over my calories a bit lol. But it’s meat right :joy:

Yup. Helpful for getting stronger. Great work!

Week 6: day 5 (yesterday)

Power cleans: 2x4-40kg, 3x3-45kg
Superset: incline bench- rope pull Downs
3x(8-35kg close grip+ 16 pull Downs- 17.5lbs)
Supplanted grip Chin up: 3x3
Face pulls: 1x50-12.5lbs

  • pretty sore so took it easy, friend was doing powercleans and taught me better form, chin-ups work bicep more than curls. Will do those instead from now on

I’m feeling fine today, but mentally really want to take the day off but I already took Thursday off (for good reason)

What will you take out of your programming to compensate for the extra back volume the chin ups will bring?

not sure.
I tacked on some back work on the off days because I’m too lazy to do cardio and my friends like to do upper lower split workouts with lots of back work on the upper days.

The program itself doesn’t have much back work.

Unrelated:
I have decided I’m going to do cardio instead of taking the day off. There’s no reason to skip

For a reason, yeah. This is a great time to figure out programming

This is a strong ass fs! Especially at the end

Thanks!
Still have a VERY LONG way to go, but I’ve really been happy w/ my squats (front and back). Based on how well everything is moving even under fatigue, I think I’m in for a big PR in two weeks (mini test day)

Week 6: Day 6- cardio

Bike: 2 miles, used “random” setting, pushed the pace
Treadmill: 3-4 mph, mess around with incline 3-7% incline
Eliptical: 5min easy
Pull/chins: 3x(3chins- suppinated+3pullups)

  • decided to get cardio in, felt good physically and got blood flowing but mentally struggled, didn’t know what to do after so might as well keep working on pullups

Update: @cyclonengineer (I tag you for academic stuff, let me know if I should stop)

  1. I’ve been on uber productivity mode recently. IT’S FKING AWESOME!!! Advisors (for the other project) assigned a massive data entry task. I anticipated it taking two weeks. Starting thursday, I tore through it, taking breaks to go to class and finishing up more homework. Literally hours straight just doing data entry. It felt like I was running on a third engine or something. At the same time, it felt very mindless and robotic, like I wasn’t fully in control- no emotions, just go. I actually felt quite tired but the work just got done. I finished this morning, over 12 days ahead of schedule along with 90% of my game theory homework and 3 blog posts must be what ritalin/adderall feel like. Whatever it was, its AWESOME!!!
Yesterday I spent the day shopping with my parents and today I feel like I’m crashing a bit from the high…
  2. There has been a strange twist of fate for my personal project. Advisor did not find the hiring results interesting. He was very concerned about the lack of difference in ratings, so he wants me to… RUN A NEW STUDY He wants to tack on a replication of the original study I have to do a version of the original study, but instead of JUST randomizing to set and competence, I now have to randomize to warmth/competnece before all of that…
He seems sufficiently invested in this to keep going, so I guess I will too
I get the feeling that I’ll still be working on this in grad school
  3. I am feeling somewhat confident about grad school now after talking with my advisors. I spent some time looking and think I know what area I’d like to focus on: ethical behaviour (subject to change of course). There are two professors known for that area: Max Bazerman and Uri Gneezy. Gneezy was the PhD advisor of one of my advisors for my for credit independent project and Bazerman is a good friend of Loewenstein’s. Both my advisor and Loewenstein seem to think pretty highly of me and should write me decent rec letters. I’m also going to get started early on my statement of purpose and apparently the GRE is pretty easy

#1. This is “the zone” and a great place to be in for academics. Nice work. Also, I am jealous of your game theory studies, not something I have been able to dive into yet (debating whether or not I should get a mathematics PH D instead of aerospace, also the “general” books on game theory are dull).

#2 I don’t know crap about studies like this or the statistics involved, but that sounds like a lot of extra work for minimal payoff.

#3. I am sure you will get into a good grad school. Maybe not your 1 or 2 choice but something quite highly regarded. I never had to take the GRE for my MS but friends reported minimal difficulty outside the writing portions (engineers you know)

Yes! I hope I can do this often. Will be very useful for grad school

It’s a pretty intro course, but I LOVE it so much.
my greatest regret is giving up on maths in MS. What I really really want to study is experimental market design, like what Dorthea Kübler does. My friend (that one) is doing market design but it’s theoretical.
I am seriously considering going back for a maths degree at some point.

probably. I was expecting him to shut the project down, but he seems sufficiently interested/invested to keep going so I’m tagging along.
I REALLY REALLY like the subject of this project. The process has just been quite painful to say the least

So I realized that I made a mistake and did the wrong workout…
Week 7: day 1(yesterday)

Gym was super busy in the pm and didn’t have time to wait in line so went to the fitness center at the business school for pm stuff. Replaced good mornings with single leg rdl holding 30lb dbs, superset with db press fly things at 20lbs

  • legs felt great going in, everything felt smooth, the singles at 80kg felt like an rpe 2 or 3, did those Emom. Based on how good that felt I think I’m good for 90kgx4-5

Smoked and broiled some drumsticks with gym buddy yesterday. They were amazing (set the rack too high in the broiler)

Pretty sure gym buddy actually likes me. Don’t know how to feel about that…

Are you afraid to lose them as a friend if you turn them down?
