Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

Uh. Your diet. Ever try prunes?

yep- was eating 2 serving a day a while back. It worked for about a week then stopped working.

Dietician thought my diet was perfectly fine- she was the one who said to go see a gastroenterologist

I mean…we have all been witness to your dietary habits for a long time now, at least those things you are willing to tell us. Either you are not being honest with your dietician, or your dietician is a quack.

I will add…I will grant that perhaps your diet has improved recently, but as others have said, you have long term damage that needs fixing. Some of it may be beyond fixing.

I mean, I’m eating on average 1700-1800kcal (not including veggies):

  • at least 1g protein/lb of bodyweight
  • plenty of fiber
  • plenty of fat (cheese, butter, fattier meats/fish)
  • lots of fish (omega 3)
  • 90% whole foods
  • 3L of water/day

Yep. I have a very strong feeling that Anna’s doctors are not collaborating, which may partially be because she is not being honest with both them and herself.

All I can say is that Anna’s refusal to take responsibility for her health terrifies me.

You burn more than 1000 calories a day via exercise. None of this breakdown of food intake is useful information in isolation. That is one of the problems with your dietician, I expect. They surely do not have the full story. We also know you binge certain things at certain times, and that will clobber your digestion.

As Bagsy indicates, if all these professionals are operating with only their individual pieces of the entire picture, they are doing nothing more than confirming their own biases, and yours. Useless. Might as well let a homeless guy check your colon or write you a diet plan, for all the good it will do.

Unfortunately, although Anna is intelligent and probably very well knows exactly what’s amiss with her approach, she’ll read stuff like this and shrug it off, continuing to overexercise and undereat – filling herself up with fibrous vegetables and animals fats (god forbid she touch a starch!) – on top of ignoring the downstream effects on the rest of her body’s systems. Sounds harsh, but it’s almost nauseating.

Anna, do you have a good relationship with your primary care provider? If so, are they a good primary care provider? Often times the quality of your PCP is going to have a dramatic effect on the efficacy of the care you receive from your specialists.

Consider them the puppet master if you will. The specialists are pieces to the puzzle of your overall health, but your PCP is the one that helps put them together into a coherent image. Often times the pieces are content to remain pieces so long as they execute their function well.

Don’t… get… me… started…
She is NOT at all helpful. Mum wanted to set me up with a good one in the practice (only one here that’s in network), but the good one wasn’t accepting new patients.
I told her about my digestive issues and she told me to take Miralax…

Well, just remember you aren’t stuck with them. You can shop around and find a better provider. Don’t count out NPs either, lots of good ones out there.

Honestly, I joke about the weather a little, but there are very few places more beautiful, especially in the fall, than western Pa.

Plus, its like I told my one buddy when we were doing trees- you can only get so wet. It takes about 10 minutes. After that, that’s it. As wet as you’ll ever be.

Plus, there’s all kinds of farmers markets and fall festivals popping up in all of the cool places with fresh and cooked food & stuff.

You have a lot to look forward to.

(I just got a couple of containers of hummus and a bunch of flowers for the yard from the one by my place)

I was absolutely miserable last winter.

The pandemic let me “escape” to florida and I’ve been spoiled. It snowed in April!!!

Just off the top of my head:

You have to get together with a bunch of other people and go over to, what, Shenley Park? Right next to the campuses.

Have a ridiculous kegger, get hammered on Captain Morgan and throw snowballs at the Pitt police when they show up.

That makes winter more fun.

Or there are activity groups that book busses up to hidden valley and seven springs where you smash beers and do shots of Jager…

What feelings is the weather provoking for you?

Lots of dread and anxiety

I hate cold and rain

What do you usually find yourself thinking about concerning cold and rain?

•My body hurts when it’s cold
•cold and rainy weather affects my mood
•I find cold and rainy weather bad, versus warm and sunny weather
•Things can go wrong when it’s rainy outside
•cold weather makes me think of negative things

^^ do these line up with your thought processes?
