Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

Settling down a bit for a couple weeks (even up to five) is nothing in a training life.

Yeah, nothing is going to happen today.
Breathing feels restricted, just don’t want to move

Take care, feel better!

Fun stuff and daily work

max pushups- 106!!! Could have done more, but the last 10 were already quite floppy @alex_uk definitely a stress PR
2x(20rows/side-20lbs+20towel pull apart rows+20 Y to Ws)

  • still felt pretty crap, but daily work is daily work. Wasn’t expecting to actually hit a PR, just did pushups for shits and giggles. Maybe some of the weight I put on is muscle after all

  • CNY dinner tonight. Honestly pretty nervous and will probably pay for it tomorrow

That’s insane, great stress pr! I haven’t had one in ages.

Maybe, but maybe it doesn’t matter what it was and gaining weight will help you either way!

Whichever it is carry on!

Why nervous, if you don’t mind me asking?

And happy CNY

I was afraid that I’d massively overeat.

Dinners over, went fine- overate but within bounds

What were you worried about happening if you overate?

Destroying toilets, cramps, getting fat

I wasn’t sure which of those answers would come out.

The first two are totally valid, obviously.

I think you know by now that the third one is an irrational fear. No-one ever got fat from one meal, and I’m sure you know that. The reason I bring this up is that I’m not convinced you recognise that this is an eating disorder you are dealing with and that your decision in this area is rooted in (negative) emotions rather than logic and reason.

You have no idea. I get pretty much 0 sleep after grill nights bc if gastro distress

Yep, I’m spooked because there were a couple of weeks where after a big dinner, weight jumped a couple of lbs and the weight stayed

I used to have a girlfriend with IBS, I have some idea.

I’m not arguing those facts, I’m saying fear is not a rational response to those facts. That you would feel fear in the face of a normal, healthy and useful consequence is the very definition of irrationality.

@Voxel I didn’t want to clog up pwns log. I’m starting to realize that not everything that works for pwn works for me. It’s very hard for me to accept Jon Anderson’s idea that “carbs are for the weak”. It’s not that I necessarily crave carbs, but it rubs me the wrong way and I get stressed out.

You don’t have to accept it.

Your body is going to operate the way it operates no matter who writes what. Rather than obsess about everyone else’s ideas, find what works for you. If carbs make you feel good, allow you to perform well, and work to serve you and your purpose then carbs are for you.

No disrespect towards Jon Anderson but it is clear he has his demons surrounding food too. And that impacts what he writes about it as well. When me and @T3hPwnisher have written about carbs in the context of Deep Water he acknowledged this historical context that Jon has which is why I remember it now as I reply to you.

Empirical evidence with your own body trumps all. Period. It can be worthwhile exploring other things, and giving them time (adjustment period and what not) but ultimately if something doesn’t work for you abandon it. It might not be shit for someone else, but if it is shit for you it doesn’t work for you and isn’t worth your time and effort.

This is the only real benefit I’ve seen so far

I guess the bigger reason is that I don’t like extreme ideologies, whether political, nutrition or otherwise. I also have a hard time following rules- unless they are my own or I’ve internalized them. As such, I’m not sure if my aversion to Anderson’s approach is due to personal bias or legit physiological reasons, especially since other very reputable coaches teach something similar (albeit phrased softer)

For some reason, I just have a hard time accepting carb timing

You guys often rag on how I never answer the question being asked. I’ve always been like this. This is why I struggled in English class- I never stuck to the damn prompt :joy:

Quoting again for emphasis. If you can get this mindset into your head and stay there, you can attack your eating disorder with logic. You’re ignoring all the evidence that your current eating/training is destroying you, while drooling over the logs/ideals of others whose physiology is entirely different from your own.

Edit: I’m saying the above as someone for whom a lot of “sexy” training/eating ideals will cause serious issues. If I were to take certain examples from pwn or flap I’d crash and burn. My digestion and stress management (and testicular fortitude) are nowhere near their levels, amongst other things. Learning to make the most with the cards you’re dealt is the best path to success in everything, especially lifting.

Edit 2: Voxel - fixed the verbiage a bit.

@theBeth Personal question: is using senna tea once a month/ once every two months safe, or will that cause dependence

Week 26: Day 1

Sprints: 2x50m, 2x100m, 1x200m, 3x(10m high skip+20m sprint)
Jumps: 5x5-25lbs
KB swings: 3x5- 45lbs Hardstyle

  • killer workout, not eating like an asshole last night paid off. Actually got good sleep. Sprints felt powerful and really worked legs, jumps smoother and lighter than expected, same with swings- have a lot more control now

Fun stuff and Daily work
4x(20sec KBs-45lbs+10sec off)
KB clean and jerk: 2x1/side-45lbs, 1x(2cleans+2 front squats+1 jerk)/side-45lbs
3x(10rows/side-20lbs+10towel pull apart rows+10 Yto Ws)

  • wanted to do a full tabata w/ the 45, wasn’t happening :pensive: so tried cleans and jerks instead, pretty happy that I could do it, complex fun- will do more next time, upper back a bit tight and not very happy so compromised with my self and only did 3 rounds

I imagine this is because you are only listening to half of the message, which is something you tend to do. You like to focus on the things you get to deny yourself rather than the things you get to give yourself.

That’s perfectly safe. No dependence issues with that.
