You know if you add some body fat, you’ll add some muscle with it, you get more muscle and you’ll look better at the higher body fat levels (cough stefi Cohen cough)
Week 25: day 3
Pistols: 50 down by 10, 25 down by 5 burpees btw sets
Death march: 2x20-20lb dbs
Goblet squats: 2x(25sec eccentric+10+25sec eccentric)- 32lbs
- upper back still tight, but legs felt good and workout went great, Pistols easier than expected- got HR up but didn’t work legs as much as I’d have liked
- death march continue to be a killer, LOVE it
- still can’t manage 30 sec eccentric, but good quad burner to finish things off
“Fun stuff” and daily work
3x(10alt dB snatches+10 rows/side)-32lbs
3x(10 towel pull apart rows+10 Y to Ws)
Because your control is an illusion. You have so much control over one thing that you actually have little or no control over everything else. Your need for control is misplaced, and it is killing you.
I like control
I don’t think that you do.
I think that you hide behind control to experience less anxiety, but seemingly from the outside the impression is that you’ve become so dependent on your variables remaining fixed that when life, being inherently chaotic, doesn’t afford you to live according to the same script you suffer greatly from that momentary relinquishment from “control”.
@Cyrrex There are only so many papers one can read before realizing just how little control humans have over themselves and others ![]()
@Voxel Fair point. I like certainty. With regards to change, I’m okay with it as long as I have a heads up and understand why the change is happening or what the change will result in. With regards to training and nutrition, my dream would be to have those on autopilot ie I eat x → body comp is y or follow a program indefinitely
Week 25: Day 4
Military Press: 5x13/side-25lbs, 60sec rest
Seated PRess: 2x12/side, 3x11/side, 25lbs, 75sec rests
Gorilla Rows: 2x8/side-45lbs
DB thrusters: 4x(20sec/side+20sec rest)
- felt pretty good going in, press strong and better than expected. Funny story, I intended to do 1x12, 4x11 for seated press but on the last set, I mentally checked out around rep 7 and somehow ended up doing 12, pretty cool. Rows sucked , Thrusters a lot harder than expected, not very smooth
Daily work NOT happening- Press seems to take a lot out of me
Finally finished spamming ppl on Reddit. Hopefully the paper gets published and they remember their promise to make me co-author
@whang @dt79 @alex44938 Happy CNY!!!
@Iron_Condor It’s the year of the ox (bull), so let’s hope the markets reflect that
Sometimes the economic rationality of Chinese culture is astounding
According to economic theory, the ideal gift is cash → red packets ![]()
On the other hand, all the superstitions are pretty much the definition of irrational
Happy CNY!
Considering the importance put on “obeying elders” and modesty, I find it very interesting how it’s acceptable/common during CNY for kids to go up to elders and literally ask for money
Muslims in S.E Asia do it too during Eid al-Fitr(the breaking fast festival) but they use a green packet and they put in really small amounts. They got the idea from us lol. Not kidding.
But yeah, everything we think about is money. Even half of the dumb superstitions have something to do with money. And gambling.
I have 5 mahjong tables prepared at my parents’ house since my Grandmother is the oldest and all the relatives will be congregating there. Over here, the generations before mine would have like 8-10 children so I have LOTS of relatives.
I even have 4 or 5 bloody uncles and aunties younger than me because of this. Maybe more but I can’t remember. I’m breaking the bank just to give out red packets to all their kids and I’m getting nothing back cos I don’t have any.
The red packets are ridiculous!
My grandparents still give me bloody thick ones and I’m an adult
It’s honestly embarassing
But yeah, everything we think about is money
… and food…
I have 5 mahjong tables
At my grandparents, the majhong only stops for food
LOL we’re all the same.

You’re gonna have to give your parents and grandparents red packets once you start working as long as you’re either living with them or have reunion dinner with them anyway.
And you’re gonna have to give your parents part of your income for life as living expenses too.

I’m about $1mil in debt (various education and medical expenses) right now, which I have personally obligated myself to pay off eventually. Unfortunately, I won’t be very economically viable for another at least 7 years… ![]()
Hopefully, between writing papers, I’ll have time to finally get into investing and meet some classmates who start the next Amazon or something
It doesn’t really matter. It’s just a custom to show respect to your elders and that 饮水思源 shit. (for non-Chinese speakers it means when you drink water must remember it’s origin or something like that, I can’t remember. There’s too much customary stuff I have to do in the next few days that I’m trying to keep track of in my head right now.).
If your parents don’t need the money and/or you have to adapt to the stuff like student debts etc in another country then it’s reasonable not to. But you need to pretend to attempt to give it to them so they can turn it down first lol. Obviously they will. You can even have some fun pretending to put up a fight. My wife and my grandmother “fought” for 10mins over giving her a red packet last night lol.
My parents aren’t working so I do it. Some of my friends with well-to-do parents don’t. It’s not a big deal unless your parents need it to get by.
My grandparents (on both sides) are retired teachers/professors so they get a very very cushy retirement income. They also grew up literally starving, so they are extremely low maintainence → they have a ton of money and no where to spend it → fat red packets
My parents don’t expect me to pay them back (even student loans???), but it doesn’t make sense to me not to

just be glad you’re a guy
just be glad you’re a guy

I have so many relatives I can’t even remember half their names and the names of their spouses but I have to formally address them if they’re more senior in “rank” than me. I’ll end up whispering to my Mom or Dad, “who’s this guy and what’s his wife’s name?” half the time someone turns up depending on who’s side of the family they’re on.
With regards to training and nutrition, my dream would be to have those on autopilot ie I eat x → body comp is y or follow a program indefinitely
Welcome to literally everyone’s ideal world regarding fitness.
Spoiler alert: the human body resists the fuck out of this.
I’m about $1mil in debt
Holy moly that is a lot! Is that normal in America?
No, not normal at all. Being in a large amount of student debt from school is definitely possible, even into the hundreds of thousands, but 1 mil in debt would be, by and large, from medical expenses.

And what are your thoughts and feelings on that rarely, if ever, will reality afford you a heads up and that such autopiloting is indeed a dream?
