Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

With mustard!

I was listening to a podcast the other day that said pretty much the same thing. If you train for any length of time, you’re going to try any number of different methods and approaches and the reality is that they all work for someone, and they all work for some things. Eventually you’ll get to a point where you find the things that work for you and your goals, which might be to use a program whole hog, but might also be an amalgam of different ideas with non competing principles.

I keep thinking about what I know about your 20-rep squat capacity compared to your max and that really cements, for me, how what might suit one individual works less ideally for another.

I tend to think of that less as “what suits me” and more an opportunity to attack weaknesses. In this case my squat technique and core strength. I don’t think there’s anything about me that’s predisposed to higher rep squats, simply that my technique is sloppy and thoughtless and my core/brace is comparitively weak. This tends to mean that I’m better at squatting at weights light enough that bracing and technique become non-issue. Very likely it was the same situation when I had a similar, but even more pronounced, issue with deadlifts.

You’re right.

I wasn’t debating. I have my experiences and opinions, others have theirs. It’s ok to disagree without being disagreeable.

Like literally? Allergic to histamines or hops or what’s the deal there?

For anyone following this log but not mine: I do not own a cheese factory! I just happen to train in one.

Should’ve used another word than debating.

What are you doing to fix your core and brace?

Ethanol

45min easy-moderate run
Last 25min was 3x(400m skip+400 jog)

  • felt good, not too bad on joints, got HR up

Pretty bummed about random weight spike and was unusually hungry do 1/2 cup roasted peanuts bc fuck it right?

You’re bummed about getting bigger and stronger?

Still working on the mindset shift

I am elated to hear that you’re working on it. That’s fantastic news.

One day, like all mindset changes, it will just click. I find just “immersing myself” in the mindset to be really useful if I find something I really feel the need to ingrain. That means most of the media I consume in that time will be produced by people who believe exhibit the mindset I’m trying to cultivate. It can be quite intense, and not workable for long periods.

Week 9: day3

1 arm push-ups: 1x4/side, 3x(4/side+10 lever push-ups/ side+24 plank hip dip)-90sec rests
3x(12rows/side+12kb high pulls+10 curls)-25lbs
For time: (10kbs-45lbs+10 burpees+…1kbs+1burpee)- 5:45
Core: 4x(1min plank+30sec rest)

  • kept things short, pretty happy w/ 4x4 on the push-ups, high pull row set harder than expecte, conditioning really intense but felt good, still hate core work :joy:

@dagill2 I think I’m going to stop giant setting my 1arm push-ups

I’m doing the same for main lower body movements, and sticking to minimal supersets for main upper body too.

As it turns out, the school’s only letting us return to campus for 1 semester (fall or spring). I chose spring, so basically it’ll be at least another 4-5 months before I get to a real gym. Also, I was looking forward to office hours with an amazing professor
This is seriously messing with my mental state. Why couldn’t the US government have just gotten its head out of its arse. As “totalitarian and corrupt” the Chinese government purportedly is, life there is basically back to normal with minimal “second wave” :sob:
I’m so lucky, but it still feels impossible to look on the bright side

What?! I wonder if this’ll happen to me.

Week 9: Day 4

Pistols: 1x12/side-25lbs, 4x(14/side-11lb paint can+10 jump squats+20knee tuck crunches)-90sec rest
3x(20 alternating Cossack squats+12rdls/side+20 Russian twists)

  • knees not feeling great going in but actual work not as bad as expected, especially pistols, Cossack squats a lot harder than expected- killed glutes, mentally out of it

@dagill2 since I skipped conditioning during the session , should I make it up later today or is the stimulus different?

Weight: 92.8
I was feeling really fluffy, but looking at past pics, I don’t actually look that different
