Idk if this is a fluke bc I’d been hovering around 91.5 for the past couple of days
We’re moving and the new house doesn’t have a scale so I guess I won’t be tracking weight for a while now

I applaude the initiative. I’d be elated if you decreased your step count though.

I genuinely think it would be a useful and informative exercise for yourself to calculate how many calories are being burned by walking 30k steps a day. When i used to count and factor these things in, I used to do about 15k a day which would be somewhere in the region of 5-600 kcal used just walking.

I tried a couple online calculators and all cams out around 5-600kcal

@dagill2 @anna_5588 At 20k+ steps per day, I think one has to be willing to consider more than just the caloric expense. Yes, walking is low impact, and @anna_5588 isn’t exactly heavy, but at that many steps I’d presume that there is some tissue damage. Muscles, tendons, fascia, etcetera. that now have to be rebuilt using protein and calories. And, there’s the weight training to not only recover from but to supercompensate from.

Even if someone was trying to use walking as a caloric expense, to lose weight, at some point that individual is probably so adept at ambulating at a decent pace that the calorie expense flattens out beyond a certain step count, i.e. that linearly adding steps do not equate to a linear expense in calories. But that’s not a goal here!

I don’t have anyone to point to as an example of an individual that is successful with their physique and performance goals that operates on a mental model best described by the phrase “how much activity can I get away with”. Meanwhile, the mental model of “what do I need to do to elicit a growth/strength response” combined with adequate recovery seems to deliver consistently.

Walking is active recovery. To a point. Beyond which it isn’t.

Week 7: day2 (yesterday)

Press: 1x13/side, 4x(9press/side+9lever push-ups/side+ 12close push-ups)
3x(8push press/side+10wide push-ups +10rows/side)- 25lbs
2x(10curls-25lbs+10archer push-ups +20alternating plank hip dips)
Bear crawl: 4x(5m down and back+20m down+sprint back)

  • felt good, shoulders dead but happy w/press, legs strangely dead today

This level of activity is definitely unsustainable but I’m afraid that I’m now adapted to this activity level.
How should I reduce it in a sensible manner? Should I decrease calories temporarily(which would suck given our “grill nights”)

Lol, using any excuse to ask if you can reduce calories.
You’ve gained no weight so far, therefore you need to eat more. How should you reduce activity in a sensible manner? Days off.

I’m not convinced on this at all, honestly. I agree that exercise becomes worse at burning calories as you become efficient at it, but i’d imagine most grown adults are adept enough at walking that the effect has already happened years ago and is a non-issue by now.

You are afraid of a lot of things you just assume. You overthink and worry about lots of things outside of your control.
Honestly the best thing is to let someone else call the shots and blindly follow. By which I mean hiring a nutrition coach or even just using something like the rp app.
You’re in your own way @anna_5588 and I can’t see how you can get out of it without help from the outside. You didn’t like my (and other’s) suggestion of consulting a therapist, so maybe a nutritionist could be a suitable counselor?

Given your medical background, it might be covered by your heslth insurance. At lesst worth a shot.
