Can anyone recommend some good non-cheesy manga? Preferably ones with loads of action, violence, fighting etc…
Fist Of The Northstar.
Erm… Bleach is pretty cool I guess…
They have hyyyoge swords…
Berserk
Cowboy beebop is the only anime i have remotely liked.
Trigun, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Elfenlied, Slayer, Bastard, Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Panic Fumuffo, Full Metal Alchemist, Gasaraki, Outlaw Star, Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Wolf’s Rain, Hellsing, Evangalion, Noir, Ninja Scroll, Samurai X, Seven Samurai…

All of these. And more. I especially liked seeing Ghost in the Shell in that list, you’re actually the first person I’ve seen that knows that series.
Also, Baki the Grappler (lots of fighting, hardcore muscle monsters)
The Ghost in the Shell series is very good as mentioned above. If you just want an all around good storyline (with some decent fighting sequences thrown in here and there) I’d say Gun x Sword is worth a watch. It’s not really super violent though.
edit Some might think Gun X Sword is a bit on the cheesy side…meh
Appleseed Ex Machina. Also Ghost in the Shell as mentioned already.
Gantz and Berserk right now. I used to like Hunter X Hunter and One Piece when I was in High School. And I’m surprised no one mentioned Dragon Ball yet…
Nothing New:
Samurai X (not the series but the OAVs…probably my favorite)
Berserk (absolutely love it and the outtakes are hilarious)
Cowboy Bebop (a little silly but not in a retarded way)
Trigun (see Cowboy Bebop)
Ninja Scroll (I’ve only seen the movie)
Hellsing (even non-anime people love it…if I was taller I’d dress up as alucard for Halloween)
Hellsing Ultimate (I’ve only seen the first few dvds…decent)
Not Mentioned:
X (the series…the movie isn’t very good)
Gundam Wing (series and Endless Walts Movie)
Princess Mononoke
That’s all I can think of for now.

All of above… Ninja Scroll, and Ghost in the shell were awesome!
I also loved watching Guyver anime series as a kid…
I agree with Ninja Scroll. I’m not an anime fan at all, but I LOVED Ninja Scroll, great action and story.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Shigurui: Death Frenzy. This shit is violent as fuck…
Oh and Black Lagoon…humor,action,bloody violent.
death note and full metal alchemist have great storylines in my opinion.

Berserk is THE SHIT!
Death Note and Cowboy Bebop are my favorites of all time. I’m surprised no one has said Afro Samurai, the story isn’t that special, but it has Samuel L. Jackson and Ron Perlman. Also a shit-ton of violence and blood. Agree with Black Lagoon, that was a fun one to watch. Also Claymore is a good one to check out.

Officially Guts is said to be 6’4" and 190lbs. But there’s no way he’s less than 250. Apparently his sword weighs 200lbs.
Crazy Japs.
GITS is epic.
