Xen - you have a 3x bw squat? Fucking hell lad, colour me impressed, well done! How heavy are you these days by the way? (not adding that to belittle you in any way - 3x is good no matter what weight you are, I’m just interested that’s all).
Judging from what I have read about your training, (which up until this last year when I started focusing on pl was eerily similar to mine - started to think we had some kind of telepathy going on) I can appreciate that most of these benchmarks would be within your reach.
Personally, bar the 3x bw squat and the clean I reckon I could probably get them - or near as dammit to them - within 6-12 months of re-focused training. Not going to happen though as I have developed an unhealthy attachment to my new, almost respectable bench press numbers.
So you posted a load of made up ‘Animal Standards’… which you have managed to achieve a high percentage of? So, basically you wanted what you are now getting, that is, everyone going ‘Dude you are great, you are an animal;…’…Well deon, it only took you 2 pages of posts to get what you wanted…
Shit Xen, very impressed, some specific olympic training and your an animal, shouldnt take too much. You have the strenth and explosiveness in the legs with the squat and jump, is it the the flexibility in the shoulders thats holding you from the OH squats? power cleans on the otherhand… well specific training and it will be done with and you can get fat and lazy knowing that once upon a time you were an animal, just like a castrated dog.
Sorry man, I didn’t mean to make it seem like I was comparing your lifts to his [/quote]
Haha no worries, I was. I was saying his was heavier, with a greater range of motion=me being a pussy. And yes, I use those pussy ass straps. I only use those on anything heavier than 365. Thats the most Im able to hold onto without straps.

Yeah, but the point is do you disagree with any of the standards? Or, is your ego too big to handle giving compliments out?
Well, I have to say I think there should be a sort of moving standard for the OHS and Power clean. I mean, you get a 150lb guy OHS for 15 reps it isn’t that crazy. On the other hand, you get a SHW doing 270-300+ for 15 reps you are talking about a crapload of specific work, not to mention the fact that I don’t think even Oly competitive lifters do that much volume per set in OHS, ever.
Same with the clean, for SHW and bigger guys you rapidly approach International competitive level weights. I think that’s a bit much, since they’ve built their entire career around only two movements.
Need a snatch benchmark in there: 1.5 bw for starters, although that breaks down at the high weight classes too.
And I think the tabata front squats is a bit arbitrary. I’ll admit I’ve never tried tabata method and only know it by reputation (it’s not part of my goals right now) , but I’d say a weight over 200lb would be a definite benchmark. Maybe 225 never below 10reps. That’s a really crazy standard.
