Admittedly I heard about it a few hours ago, I’m not fully up to date on these current affairs. More focused on Australian politics/sociocultural issues atm.
Not fully versed on the topic here. To note I’m not a Trump supporter, I despise him both as a politician/regarding his policies and I despise him as a person. At the same time, akin to the BLM/antifa related protests is it not possible the Trump supporters going up in arms, rioting and destroying property are within a designated minority? I somehow doubt almost half of all Americans are willing to reject democracy because a certain electoral narrative didn’t amount in their favour.
I’ve found antisemitism to be omnipresent within both extremes of the political spectrum (both left and right). Rather with the (far) left antisemitism tends to be subtle, veiled as opposed to the overt “stormfront visitor neo nazi” type of anti semitism.
So… What happens now @Californiagrown? Is there a chance Trump can be removed early, either through impeachment or invoking the 25th amendment?
Yeah a few hours into the riot. He also refused to send in extra police or the national guard to protect congress and remove the rioters after it had been stormed. Pence had to go around him and do it. Please do not defend the man, his actions, or what happened yesterday unless you actually do support it.
No, i doubt it. We only have 2 more weeks of this traiterous asshole. Id love for the 25th to be invoked, and it without a doubt should be, but there are too many true believers in government, and among the constituents for that to happen i think. I bet, its a wink-wink agreement amongst government and military officials that no orders from trump are to be carried out or considered for the rest of his term.
Seems like the guys storming Congress were given quite a bit of leniancy. Comparing BLM to what is at stake when you’ve got individuals trying to overthrow electoral Congress… It’s chump change, the severity of actually trying to undermine democracy is far greater than the vandals of society burning down a few stores/buildings because they’re pissed off.
As to my original point… Riots aren’t a specific byproduct of activity initiated through the “left”. Both riots (BLM and Capitol Hill) stem from an emotion based response as opposed to a rational one.
More than that, his entire “#stopthesteal” agenda is directly culpable for the formation of these riots. He couldn’t go down with dignity following a legitimate election. His narcissism and delusions of grandeur know no bounds and as a result he went to undermine the foundational constructs of American democracy.
I also believe he’s tweeted multiple times calling on protestors/supporters to “liberate” various states during large scale protests. It’s easy to see how a small base of his supporters might infer Trump to want a call to arms following all of this. Directly or indirectly, Donald J Trump is culpable for this mess
No, however the attempt to undermine democracy by staging a violent coop to me serves as a symbol to represent divisiveness/the sheer severity of the situation at hand.
I don’t believe this situation should be graded in severity about as per the chance of success, it’s about the greater implications; does this foreshadow a shaky, culturally divided future?
You’re response above however is the reason as to why I classify this as nothing more than a riot. Realistically, there was no chance for these protestors to succeed and overturn electoral results. The response to storm Congress was an emotion based one as opposed to a rational one. This seems to be present regarding a large portion of riots and serve to spark the initial fires that kickstart this kind of needless violence, mayhem and destruction.
This is rioting, nothing more. Though the fact that these riots managed to occur represent a deeper problem present and/or of which is unfolding.
More so, it’s a shame we’ve now seen four people needlessly die over this… And another 350 thousand from the president’s incompetent response over the pandemic currently gripping the world.
And paying the price publicly with Trump tweet storming. The quietest and most loyal of the administration, and he refused to throw the country under a bus and now Trump’s insulting him.
I’d support a flash impeachment or the 25th amendment in a heartbeat, but I don’t think it will happen either. I don’t think the reason is too many “true believers” in govt though. I think it goes back to more pragmatic issues - for instance the likelihood that an impeachment trial will essentially take the entire time he has left in office. (It shouldn’t, but realistically speaking probably would).
Months and months of rioting, arson, violence against police, multiple deaths (CHAZ), etc… Zero deaths of blacks by police
1 unarmed white woman killed yesterday. Not a peep. No mention of white privilege or her being unarmed by the same loud mouthed low information cretins pulling the “iF tHeY wErE pEoPlE oF cOlOr…”
A more practical solution would be just ignore all of his directives. Or let him know that Pence will be at the wheel the next 2 weeks while he packs his stuff. Obviously the second would have to be under some threat - real or in his case, perceived - since he wouldn’t know enough to know if threat was legitimate.
This should have happened weeks, months, or years ago. But I agree, the best thing moving forward is for everyone to effectively ghost trump, and carry-on without him. Head down, work hard on the transition.
I’m inclined to think his counter rally on innaguration day should be shut down. But idk how to not make him a martyr by doing so. He and his supporters have lost any and all benefit of the doubt. He is out to stroke his ego at the expense of the country.
Yeah, I’m not sure how that would effectively work since it’s never happened before (once?). I agree practically speaking, but I personally feel like even if there is only symbolic importance rather than practical use to impeachment/25th that one should be pursued.
To me it is most important to put it in the historical record that no Americans from either party will accept this ever occurring again.
