Anabolic Diet

Alas, my best buddy moved to Maine and my other buddy moved on as well. I’ve fallen into a dude depression on that front. No disc for a few years now.

good to hear from you, Bino.

And PauliD too.

DH

PS. I guess MODOK can give some good AD advice. Even though he’s a hillbilly!

DH,

I think everyone knew you were still on the AD, the real question is: are you still disc golfing?

boneless, skinless chicken thighs… amazing

if you know how to make your own dry rub do that or you can use a pre-made one.

let them sit over night and then bake for 20-25 mins. idk if i can ever go back chicken breasts
Dude, the bonez are the best part!

Though you should try this though,

Roast skinless chicken legs/thighs for 45 mins on lowish heat(until crispy).

Chop chicken into pieces, and place to one side.
Get 1 bag if broccoli, steam or boil until soft.

1 block of cheese(this is too taste, I like White cheddar), chop into cubes
6 - 8 whole eggs beaten

Place chicken, broccoli, cheese and egg mixture into a circular baking tin(the ones for making tortes or pies)

Bake in oven for 20 minutes, melt remaining cheese over the top and ta da.

The ultimate AD fratata.
^^^going to try that

reason for boneless is they just are so much quicker to cook

If you’ve been on AD for over a month do you need to do the 12day start up phase if you went SAD for 10days? Or can you just jump right back into the 5/2 regular AD schedule?

how do you guys feel about breakfast sausages on the AD?

2 of them have 18g of fat, 6g protein and 3g carbs.

too dirty of a fat source? the 3g of carbs come from “liquid bread crumbs”.

IME i would say just watch how many you’re eating… obviously EVOO, grass fed butter, fish oil etc are the preferred fat sources but a couple a day i dont think would hurt you

FWIW i think i remember MODOK saying he had to cut out all the processed meats bc they made him feel shitty

when i was a freshman in college the only protein source besides eggs i could find in the mornings would be jimmy dean sausage patties. pretty much the same nutritional profile you mentioned and i gained A LOT of fat eating them but it was probably bc i over-relied on them

Wow, so glad to see an AD thread back up! I guess I’m a little late…

@MAF14: I, too had to cut out a lot of my processed meats on the AD.

I have even begun to experiment with eating less cheese and more nuts and oils. For a man who ate 1lb+ of cheese/day for almost a year, this is a hard thing to do, but has helped my physique immensely.

about the cheese, when i used more dairy (cheese, milk, cottage cheese) it seemed like when i replaced the cals coming from those sources with others, my BF decreased without changing any thing else… maybe the lactose?

ok so for the past 2-3 months i have been doing 6 days <30g carbs per day with a high carb day on sunday but never really did the 12 day induction phase so i wanted to make sure i was properly fat-adapted.

my last carb-up was about 10 days ago and after my session today, i took my beater off and it REEKED of ammonia!

i have had high BUN levels in the past but i was always dehydrated from not drinking during the night when i got the labs done…

any advice?

see yesterday i had breakfast sausages, salami, and 6 fast food hamburger patties and cheese and had more energy than ive had in a while. today i relied on chicken breast and olive oil or nuts, felt like i was gonna fall asleep all day. i think i need that dirty processed meat lol.

my first couple runs on the AD i had this problem too. during my workouts i stunk of ammonia. i figured out i wasnt eating enough fat and too much protein and was just burning up muscle. increasing fats to ~40-60g per meal and dropping protein to 30-40g per meal solved this problem.

shit, if it works for you thats awesome. im kinda jealous… those sausage patties were addicting

a few frozen berries and some coolwhip = AD dieters best friend.

the 10g of carbs fits into my daily allotment nicely.

My experience echos this. While cheese provided quite the energy on the AD, I found my “problem spots” of fat storage maintained stubbornly. As soon as I decreased cheese (and actually decreased all saturated fats) I found I was significantly leaner without other changes, and specifically in these areas.

The ammonia smell means you’ve gone into ketosis. Once you resume the carb-ups the smell should go away.

Ah, good catch.

I actually increased my PRO intake to kcal ratio, while maintaining PRO grams.

When I was eating the maximum amount of cheese (well over 1lb a day), I was also eating 6,500 to 7,500 kcals daily. As one might guess, I was adding mass at the time. Here, the cheese and other fatty PRO sources I consumed easily hit my target PRO while supplying plenty of kcals for growth.

In my current cutting phase, I am eating 2,800 kcals a day creeping up to 3,500 once a week or less. Because of this, I adjusted quite a few things that have helped this process. Once of them was the decrease in sat fats, one was specifically the elimination of cheese from my diet, one was the decrease in fat consumed during the refeeds, and one was the addition of nuts.

Like a low fat diet, I am now primarily relying on lean PRO sources, such as chicken breast, very lean beef, and protein supplements, and filling in any kcal deficits with nuts or oils.

It is certainly not the true AD anymore, however I had to make these changes to accommodate my needs.

EDIT: It should be noted that the decrease in kcals happened over six months, gradually.

What is the BUN level? There are lots of definitions of “high”, but just remember who the normal limits are set for. ( normo-typic, normal diet, normal activity 150 lb males). Lots of nitrogen is a good thing for us… positive nitrogen balance and all.
blood urea nitrogen. when iw ent to a nephrologist he told me my kidneys would fail if i continued my protein intake. i just said ok and left.

thanks for the reassurance

yeah i figured it would go away witht he carb ups, the only thing that was bothering me was the fact that i read through the first 55 pages of the original Anabolic Diet thread (and this thread for that matter) and dont remember once reading about someone else sweating ammonia

LOL… I know what BUN MEANS… I meant what is YOUR level?
OHHHHH! haha i was thinking it was kinda odd you wouldnt know what that meant…

my last two tests were 35 and 42 mg/dl on a 7-25 scale

Im not sure if its just me but I tend to have more energy on my hight fat low carb days. I finde sausage, beef, steak all work about the same but to get the most energy 60% fat daily keeps me running on all 8 cylinders. Certain foods have lots of fat and protien like lamb ribs, pork ribs. In the morning suassage is more of a hassel then bacon. I eat bacon with damn neer everything though. Not very good for a Jew :frowning:
