How do you guys normally feel on the carb-up days with lifting? At one point on my Sat lifting, which is my first carb-up day, I was loading up on Surge WF and I felt sick during my lifting and wasn’t all that productive.
maybe try having like 1/2 to 1 cup of oats 45 mins before the WOF. sip dont chug. i’m guessing here but probably has something to do with a blood sugar swing.

Would taking the carb ups from every weekend to once every other weekend be too long?
For what reason would you do so?
i am actually trying that now bc of lack of fat loss and dont want to drop calories any further
Basically the same reasons as you. I feel that if I carb up once per week I’m only getting back the point I was before the carb up. I want to lose more fat and I don’t really think I can do so with the one day carb up per week. I thought of trying two carb up meals per week spaced 3 days apart from each other. Both containing 100g of carbs >20g protein and least amount of fat possible. Or just one cheat meal on sunday.

oh… well how “clean” are you eating during the week.
have you tried going to 1 carb up day per week yet?

I’ve been doing the carb up once a week but I find that even if its a healthy carb up (oatmeal breakfast - salad with healthy breads, and then a whole wheat pasta for dinner I still get extremely lethargic and I fart like crazy. I’ve been following a strength trainer in the states who said it could be gluten resistance… anyone else find problems with that?
I’ve tried one carb up meal once a week but it didn’t give me the fullness/glycogen storage I wanted and with 2 smaller carb up meals (80 carb/20 pro/~0 fat) it stalled fat loss
i had similar experiences with oats/higher gluten foods… had to fart and shit all that day and all the next day. stopped having oats and whole grain pasta, used rice and sweet potatoes as main carbs and it didnt happen at all.
i’ve been reading into the whole gluten thing a bit and supposedly its caused by farmers breeding extremely high gluten wheat for better baking.

i would imagine there was something else going on than 160 grams of carbs stalling fat loss. that’s nothing for an entire week

I meant 80% carbs 20% protein but still a meal of ~ 1500 - 2000 cals.
If i did it tuesday/friday I wasn’t able to burn it off fast enough to validate another carb meal

I have been doing 1 carb day a week, It consists of oat meal granola, brown rice, some times pasta and pizza depending what I have for dinner. If i take the carb up to once every two weeks its basically the gsd…
I just realized I’ve been drinking full sugar root beer instead of diet root beer today and yesterday. That’s 4 days of carbs in a row. And I drank nearly a liter of it over both days, so it’s quite a few carbs, lol.
Do you think I’ll need to re-do the 12 day initial stage?

nah you’ll be fine. you always could though to make up for fat loss.
Update: So for all of you thinking of letting loose don’t. You won’t be happy. The last 3 weekends I had people come in from out of town and an engagement party. So I drank a lot on one night each weekend. Also my weekend carb-ups have been dirty foods (pizza, calzones, burritos, etc) and my weekly food had also been dirtier (lots of ground chuck and shit meat). I have displayed noticeable fat gain on the waist. Good news is I still gained strength throughout. Bottom line; don’t do what I did.
Moving forward: I’m going to add some sprint work 2-3 times a week, and continue to eat above maintenance with cleaner sources of calories. I’m hoping to mitigate some of the fat gain by doing so. Being that it’s my last semester in college, some alcohol will probably be consumed one night a week. I’m going to keep it to under 5 drinks and alternate with a glass of water to try and keep the damage low. (I am fully aware of the negative hormonal effects of alcohol and the fact that alcohol contradicts the desired hormonal state my body should be experiencing during a weekend carb-up.)
@Maf14: Looking tough in that new avatar. #tumbsup
you only live (and go to college for that matter) once. i used to stay in and eat my chicken breast + EVOO on the weekends. miserable.
now i just scale back what im eating on fridays/saturdays and go out at night. i still lift and do cardio and im SOOO much happier. i’m really that upset with myself how much time i wasted…
Haven’t posted anything in a while. I’ve actually been following fasted training and then a fast until lunch, consuming nothing but a zero calorie amino acid supplement. Well… lots of the amino acid supplement. I’m on my 3rd phase of 5/3/1 and I’ve been breaking PR’s throughout the whole time I’ve been doing fasted training.
Then my following meals follow the AD calorie and macro nutrient guidelines and I carb-up on the weekend. Im’ pretty happy with the results and I’ve finally broken 210lbs, hopefully 205 will come quickly.
Thanks, MAF. I’ll probably just do a one day carb up this weekend instead of my usual two.
Also, I’m doing the exact same thing that jaynick’s doing (IF, training on only aminos, AD macros for the rest of the day) and I’m LOVING the results… and I’m not even bothering counting calories, hah!

Still eating at 2k cals per day. I suck down lots of purple wrath, pre, during, post and up to lunch. Im diggin it so far and only have 5 to 10 lbs to go.
