Anabolic Diet

As far as training goes, I’m taking this week as a de-load (3 high rep full body workouts w/ 50-60% of my max). Next week I’m going to start up WS4SB. I plan on running it for a good long time.

Cheers

That’s awesome, you’ll have to let us know how you do with WS4SB’s. I’ve looked at it a lot and aside from the obvious it’s not entirely different from 5/3/1 and I’m curious to see how it works.

I’m sure this has been covered by some in previous threads/posts, but what does some of your training look like on carb up days?

Do you use them as rest days to just ‘soak up’ the carbs, or do you try to time heavier workouts on those days like you might do with a ‘carb cycling’ approach?

i dont go heavy any more… i used to try to hammer my legs on my carb up but i would always end up thinking i was gonna shit myself at the bottom of my squat lol

i started doing the CT neural charge work outs except longer than the prescribed 30 mins… then, the next two or three days after i can handle some pretty long/tough workouts

also carbs (in such big quantities) kind of give me a calming effect. not good for big session IMO

I just works out for me where my carb-up days are on the weekend and Sat is the only weekend day I lift. Although I workout in the morning before I even eat anything so really the carb-up is just for recovery getting ready for the following week.

Coconut oil mixed in with nut butter (almond butter is best, imo) is an amazing snack. For some reason, however, it gives me a terrible stomach ache, but I’ve recommended that to a few people as a snack and they do just fine with it.

It’s an awesome high healthy fat snack with minimal carbs, plus a bit of fiber.

I don’t do the CT workouts and I do well with carbs on heavy days. These concerns don’t apply.

I am more asking is there something inherent about the diet that you wouldn’t want to burn up the carbs right away that are supposed to restore your stores fuel you (in part) until the next time.

oh, then no. in that case training is recommended on the carb up —> heavy lifting pulling glucose into muscle blah blah blah.

fwiw i know DH and Di Pasquale agreed as well

EDIT: are you doing the AD?

Yes. And I did it for about 2 or so years before.

However, when I did it before, I was trying to GAIN weight and honestly I did great on it. I found that I needed carbs more frequently to drive my lifts up and added carbs in during the week.

Now trying to come down slightly and slowly, more a recomp than a ‘cut’, so I want to maximize the benefit of th ‘carb up’ and put them to best use.

That’s awesome, I really hope I can get my BF to the point where I can go on a bulk. I bet bulking on the AD is great. Between the carb-up and the high calories during the week it should be rather solid.

I want to clear something up from my last post- when I said I added carbs in that was the point where it wasn’t really “AD” anymore. I think my wording was ambiguous there.

Good luck.

You have any tips for gaining weight on this diet? That’s what I’m tying to accomplish with it right now.

Thanks,
JK

Hello, I read through the 400 page thread’s first 20 pages and read through the Metabolic Diet book by the Dr. but couldnt find answers to these questions:

  1. Is this diet good for ectos? I’m 125 lbs at 5’8" at like 6-8% bodyfat. I’m worried that if I go low carb like this it’ll harm my health since im already so low body fat percent wise. Or is it okay? My goal is to hit 160+ lbs at around 8% bodyfat and wondering if this is the diet to get these results the fastest?

  2. Whats the average muscle-gain rate that people have been getting? The book said 2 lbs of lean muscle mass per week after the 4 weekish adaptation period. This seems really high. Anyone else get this type of result?

Thanks

this diet CAN be good for ectos…

it will not harm your health.

that being said, i would not recommend you do the AD, personally.

check your PM’s

Eat more calories than you burn.

Try this and just apply the AD percentages, www.johnberardi.com/updates/july262002/na_masscalculator.htm

@SteelyD & Jaynick77: I think yall misunderstood me. I’m not asking how to gain weight on this diet. That’s working out just fine. I was just wondering if yall had any tips for making the process more convenient. Maybe foods you found easy to eat alot of and/or fix easily, etc. Easy tricks for getting in more calories. Things like that. I was looking for a sharing of personal experience.

Cheers,
JK

No Shit

make sure you do work on the carb ups

How do you guys normally feel on the carb-up days with lifting? At one point on my Sat lifting, which is my first carb-up day, I was loading up on Surge WF and I felt sick during my lifting and wasn’t all that productive.

Would taking the carb ups from every weekend to once every other weekend be too long?
