OK I am going to use my Friday’s weigh in at 161.2 because I left for up North after work and had to have an ice cappachino to keep me awake for the 4 hour drive. Now in saying that my weight has been 161.2 for the last 2 days dead on so I honestly can’t see it being that much different this morning but I couldn’t weigh myself first thing this morning because as soon as I got in the house I had a super shake at 745 AM (I was starving nothing open up here at night) and forgot to strip down and weight myself right there in front of the family lol

So can I still compete? . . if so Mom is already thinking of ways to stuff her son like the Christmas turkey . . .

Hell yeah, can’t do this without you. Can’t imagine one drink makes that much of a difference.
lol . . ok then game on buddy!!!

Now as for my shake buddy they are heaven in a glass let me tell you. . . but honestly I’m finding as of late for whatever reason as soon as I take in carbs I swell up huge super quickly so the ice cap with all the yummies on top made me swell and after the shake I was already at 164 but I had not made a deposit yet in the bathroom so we will hold with the 161.2 for now . . . just came back from Chinese Food and currently working on my second milk shake and then later Mom has promised to fill my gut while giving me fireball whiskey for more simple carbs lololol

Don’t know buddy but its going to be hard eating all weekend while doing nothing but relaxing out in the woods . . I’ll put one on the rocks for you there bud.

And as for your goals keep up the good work and keep me posted. . . as I said before I’m a PL and don’t worry to to much about my BF as long as the weight on the bar is going up but if the fat is the only thing going up then I cut back but for now all is in check and all is good . . . ok back to eating . . . and we must be careful withe the silent JK he will come out of the woodwork and kick all our asses come Monday so eat! eat! eat!

I don’t think there would be a problem, you’re just going to feel like absolute ass by the time you get there. :D
In doing a quick scan of the Metabolic diet his newer version, he says it’s ok to start with the 5 days on & than carb up. Need to buy the book to get much more detail on this. But the small snippet didn’t push the 12 days all that hard.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good shake either way. I have a Chicago pizza in the oven that my wife brought back from her trip, all mine. I may have to go for a jog tomorrow to keep the bloat from being too disgusting. Game on!

I see no problem extending the break in phase as I did the same thing when I started. I went 15 days to set the schedule

Thanks guys. This thread has been great. Reading everyone’s results has been massive motivation

Yeah, I’ve learned a lot from the other participants in this thread and reading the book. There are some good folks in here.

I completely agree. I’ve been checking out SteelyD’s ‘la cucina anabolica’ thread and other online recipes for cooking ideas. I’m starting to really enjoy cooking.

Would anyone be opposed to posting AD friendly recipes up here? Obviously, lets try to keep it with stuff other than “here’s a grilled steak” or “here’s a bacon, egg, and cheese omlette.”

Coconut-sriacha-shrimp

Crack open a can of coconut milk, and spoon out the heavy/thick part of the coconut milk when it’s seperated and put it on medium heat in a pan, spoon in a bit of sriacha sauce, and throw in a pound of cooked shrimp (pull the tails off first), heat it up, and 5 minutes later you’ve got a simple dish. It’s a little bland, but it works. I’m thinking of things I could add to it to make it a bit livelier.

I’ve used the cauliflower for the mashed potatoes before. I used a bit of butter, salt and pepper. They were okay, but I hand mashed 'em. Next time I think I’ll throw 'em in the blender with some buter and heavy cream to make them creamier. I might even throw in a bit of guar gum to thicken them up.

I was also thinking that you could probably hand mash 'em a little so they’re like ‘strandy’ as they get when they’re mashed apart and pan frying them like a hash brown to go with your morning omlette, haha. I might give it a shot.

Hmmmm? Well . . . if I can toss in my 2 cents I would do AT LEAST a 12 day low carb. Regardless of the version your body needs to make the “Shift” and 5 days to start is to low in my opinion but its just a thought.

If you absolutely had to I guess you could do a carb meal then right back to the diet but for me . . . I would stick it out and pay your dues and just do the long hall and let your body do the “Shift” to make sure you are burning fat for energy but again that is just me . . . keep us posted

I have a question in regard to weekend carb loads. Are we shooting for the same number of calories relative to what we’ve been taking in during the week? Like if I’m at 3,200 cals on weekdays, should I be eating 3,200 cals on weekends as well and just switch the macros around? Today was my first carb load after the 2 week assessment and I totaled 4,700 cals with 48/31/22 carb/fat/protein.

Your other option would be do a condensed, but stricter version of the induction phase as outlined in Rob Faigan’s book Natural Hormone Enhancement.

See my post half way down page 20:

http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/diet_performance_nutrition_supplements/anabolic_diet_20?pageNo=22#4723734

Do the first week at below 20g of carbs as prescribed, then do the extra few days at below 30g of carbs (as per the AD) which will take you up to Friday and back on schedule.

Hahaha, I don’t know about that. I feel like I’m dropping the ball this weekend. Like I said last week, the carb up I did last weekend was a lot dirtier than I normally do. I did gain weight, which is good, but I didn’t feel like all that weight gain was “good weight.”

I started off this weekend with the same foods as last weekend. (High sugar, dirty food). I’ve kinda lost taste for it all (I know… crazy). I’m going to finish this weekend off with some sweet potatoes then start planing a more clean carb up next weekend. Next weekend I’m still going to try and hit EV-Olympic numbers, but with cleaner carbs.

The experimentation continues,
JK

Edit: It’s funny b/c I already know how dirty carbups affect me… I guess I just needed to see it again. Oh well. Yams still taste good.

Yeah, this weekend was far dirtier than I anticipated and not in a good way. I’m feeling confident about my weigh-in tomorrow but I don’ tknow that I’m proud of it. LOL

One word . . UGH!!!

Well all I have to say is thank God I only visit my parents once in awhile. It’s always the same, mom cooks enough for 10 people and the 3 of us eat it all then start again . . Dad’s like “OH I can eat like a PL” lol and then it starts with “Oh just one more helping please Mom” back and forth and back and forth until we are as big as balloons and roll away from the table only to rest for a bit and have some dessert lol.

So after having a C-Section this morning I gave birth to a Quadzilla of 167.2 . . up 6 pounds but let me tell you I might go a bit easy this week like JK. However, I was able to get to last night before I blew up and had one of the kids tie a string to my ankle to prevent me from floating away . . . All in all it was a great visit and a good carb up but yes I too might adjust a few things next week. Mind you I still look great in my T-Shirt so does that count? lol .

I don’t think I would have felt as bad yesterday if I was moving around but when your relaxing up North and visiting it’s hard to be active at times (ok so that is a poor excuse but it works for me lol) . . My Dad is wondering if he can join next weekend thus giving him a reason to eat the amount of food he normally eats? lol

Well I will try and post this before Mom’s net goes down again so hope everyone fared well over the carb up and I’ll check back later if I can get a signal again . . . All the best guys . . . .

Well, I put on far more than I anticipated and weighed in at 222.4lbs. I should’ve taken a picture because I didn’t believe it myself, so plus 9 pounds roughly. Today was my 5/3/1 Shoulder session and then I did 30-minutes of low-intensity cardio. I weighed-out at 220.something…

The timing of this wasn’t awful because this is the hardest week of 5/3/1 and I’ll need all I can get. I did 160lbs for 6 reps today on the OHP which is good considering back in March I could only do it twice. I’m also going to cut my calorie intake down to 2,200 and try to get back down to 210 and shoot for a lean 205. I was at 211 and I started taking creatine again and I’m wondering if there’s a relationship between that and the two extra pounds I put on because it was roughly at the same time.

Next weekend I’m going to be better about my carb-intake and not just enhale anything with carbs. LOL.

Well guys, like I previously said, I dropped the ball as far as total weight gained this weekend. I was up 5lbs this morning. That’s fine with me though. I’m gonna up the P&F calories this week and try and hold on to 2 pounds. Next weekend, I’m going to try and buy out my local grocery’s sweet potatoes in an attempt to hit extreme variance numbers w/ clean foods.

As far as training goes I’m on week 4 of GVT. It’s been brutal considering that I’m coming off of a year and a half worth of 5/3/1 style training. Weeks 1-3 I’ve been able to hit my rep goals, however, today during my front squats I kinda broke down… Idk if it’s CNS related but I really felt like shit. I’m pretty sure Charles Poliquin would classify me as a “Wood Type.” Due to this realization, I plan on varying my volume and intensity levels more often (on the magnitude to every 3 weeks). Hopefully that works well. I’m going to finish out this week of GVT then hit up Charles Poliquin’s Maximal weights style. After about 3-4 weeks of that I’m going for Charles Poliquin’s 1-6 method… Then Repeat the 3 (GVT,MW,1-6). Then finally after I repeat the 3 I plan on resorting back to 5/3/1 for 8-12 weeks to strengthen up … then review the results, adjust, and REPEAT!!

@Jaynick: 9lbs = impressive! Keep up the good work with the OHP. You’ll get to your strength goals in no time.

Cheers,
JK

Ha, thanks. I’m with you. This coming weekend aside from my pancakes I will probably just get a ton of rice and sweet potatoes and try to keep it cleaner than this weekend was.

Wow, a little GVT. With that kind of volume and on this diet it might just be CNS related. Not sure what your diet goals are but I’m trying to drop bodyfat and a few pounds so I’m trying to keep my calories low. Because of that higher-volume training was just starting to work against me. I followed CT’s SH Complex for 15 weeks. The first 6 were great, the next 3 were pretty good but then I could feel the fatigue set in during the following 3 and then the first 3 of the third phase were just too much. My joints were killing me, couldn’t sleep but couldn’t wake up. I think if I were eating my bodyweight x 22 right now then the high volume would’ve been fine but right now 5/3/1 fits me well I think.

Good luck with the GVT, you’re gonne be huge in no time once you get your cal’s up a little.

Well all kidding aside gentlemen, great work by all but Jaynick wow 9 pounds guess we know who takes the gold medal!!! . .

but yes I to, will clean it up a bit next weekend, but I knew this weekend would be a total food feast as it normally is when the family gets together. It was fun and all but could never be an every weekend thing . . Hell I would never fit in my car, let alone under the bar for squats come Monday. . . well back to the normal AD and honestly I welcome it as I find my body really doesn’t like some carbs any more thus we “X” them off for future carb ups.

Agreed, this weekend will be a more normal carb-up with maybe a big sub-sandwhich as a cheat meal. I’m thinking that I may do this once a month for week 3 of 5/3/1. We’ll see what I look like come Saturday morning. Today was my main leg session of the week and I’m already back down to 216 from 222 yesterday. I think my legs day literally saps the glycogen out of me faster than anything.

Well I’ll second that . . that is why I sometimes do a small quick mid-week carb spike. As for me down 3 lbs and all is good but having trouble getting going today as usual for the first day of training but always a bit harder after an extra day of rest due to my visit up North and its starting to get cold up here so I always move a bit slower . . well off to do legs and hoping to have another good one like last week because as of late they have been a real killer.

Well say what you will but for me I had tons of strength and even felt good enough to go up 15 lbs on my singles today so I just don’t know what to do with this info lol . . could be mental yes I know but I have been struggling with my squat for a bit (had an slight accident few months ago and threw out my hip) . . so I just don’t know . . if this insanity gets me over the hump I just may keep it up and just cut longer like I usually do . . . But MAN once I got going did I feel strong

Sorry to hear about your hip bro. Nice work with your singles too. I kinda’ liked the carb-up and this could be something I do every few weeks for the tougher workout schedules.
