And what the shitballs are you guys eating that you’re fluctuating 5+lbs on your carb ups?
In my 8hr feeding window on saturday, I had:
5 poached eggs on 5 slices of cinnamon raisin ezekial toast with a shitload of grass fed butter with 32oz raw milk
A little ceasars pizza
Two big macs and a large fries
Large cake batter ice cream with cookie dough and graham cracker pie crust from coldstone (amazing)
All with a shitload of crystal light/water/diet soda.
And only gained about 2lbs.
I do however, look much heavier and fuller. Obviously.

So guys I am starting this diet Mon. and was wondering what you did for morning training? What I mean is I usually have a cup of joe then 30mins later have Surge Workout Fuel, than train. Now that is loaded with carbs. Is it beneficial to try and eat beforehand? One of the hardest things for me is to try and eat whole foods at 4:30 in the morning. Not sure what direction to take in this situation.
I’ve been doing the AD with the intermittent fasting schedule (16hr fast/8hr feeding window) and I’ve currently been training ‘fasted.’ I have 10g leucine right before I leave for the gym, then 10g EAA’s right when I get there, then lift. I’ve been having some awesome workouts on an empty stomach.
If you want, you could give that a shot.
Otherwise, before I started the IF schedule, I would have a few TBSP of coconut oil pre-workout.
Thanks I’ll give that a shot. Should be interesting to see what kinda energy I have at 5:30 in the morning.
BTW, great question on how to weigh your food pre/post cooked. Think I’m going with JK and weigh after it is cooked.

My last carbup:
1.) 1/2 gallon of Bordens Chocolate Milk
2.) 1 Large pep pizza
3.) 9 waffles
4.) 3/4 cups of syrup
5.) 5 Wopper JRs
End of Day 1
1.) One left over Wopper JR
2.) More waffles & syrup
3.) 1/2 gallon of White milk
4.) Dinner at gf’s house (had some good rice dish)
5.) 2 large ham sandwiches
EDIT: I also had icecream
End of Day 2
I don’t always eat that dirty… but this weekend was kinda an experiment. I was up 8lbs from my Saturday morning weight. However, today (Friday) I’m down 6.2lbs of that 8. I was hopping to hold on to 1-2 lbs… so we’ll see tomorrow.
@JK: I completely agree with the meat comment, you weigh and log your meat based on the COOKED weight because some of the fat and stuff does get cooked off. You can especially see this when you’re grilling up ground beef. For instance, I use 80/20 ground beef to make patties and I usually roll them into 10oz patties that cook down to approx 6oz’s.
@rrjc5488: I’ve been toying around with my pre-workout nutrition too and having trouble nailing something down but I might be on to something. On Mon (day 1 after carb-up) I make two-servings of MAG-10 and consume some before I workout and then of course during. After the weekend carb-up I seriously don’t feel like eating anything in the morning and have yet to find a need to. Tue-Fri I consume one protein shake mixed with 1 serving of EVOO. It has 10 carbs in it which shoudln’t be the end of the world but I’m not sure how good that is. Sat is carb-up day 1 I have one serving of Surge WF and one serving of MAG-10.
My carb-up meals: This varies a little depending on what my wife wants to do for a date night. But some of my standard foods are:
Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Walnuts
Brown rice with EVOO, mayo, and a serving or two of Albacore Tuna. I actually make a big batch of this and eat it throughout the weekend. I may sub chicken depending on what’s ready.
I try and get a good amount of mixed veggies in throughout the weekend. I need to start getting sweet potatoes again.
Common carb-up meals may include one of the folloing, pizza, Chinese food, mexican food, or a large sub sandwhich from Capriotti’s (for those of you with Capriotti’s, Capastrami or Bobbie).
Common junk food (aside from the pancakes I guess) that I might eat but don’t usually eat all of it just common selections, Ice Cream or Cheese Cake Factory cheese cake of some kind.
I think this weekend I will need to step it up a notch to compete you guys. LOL!
Ronan, I forgot to mention I have a Spike double shot on my way to the gym, too. 5:30AM? Fuck that noise… I need the Spike to train at noon! lol
As for weighing food before or after, I’m pretty sure you can do either if you’re going to track cals on fitday or something… I remember sometimes they have options like “chicken breast, raw” or “chicken breast, grilled” something like that. Just put in the appropriate weight with the right cooking option and it will adjust accordingly.
Grrrrr! Well lets try this again for some reason my first post was blasted off into cyberspace . . .
Good morning all and lets see if I can put my 2 cents in on some of the above posts . . .
As for the cooked or not cooked topic I always use the cooked weight as well. I just figure with any diet there will always be some margin of error. So If I?m not seeing the gains I want I just adjust my intake as needed.
@JK: as always TY for your opinion and feedback and that is pretty much what I was thinking but figured I would toss that out there seeing you?re a veteran on this diet. And I must say I think I have finally found my sweet spot on this diet @ 4500/day gains finally coming (:
Now as for the comment about what the hell are we eating on the carb ups . . .for me its mostly pasta, rice and my super shakes then popcorn at night with the kids and as many pizza as I can fit in . . .
@Jaynick . . lol just caught your comment about stepping it up this weekend . . Totally cool bud . . we shall morph into AD God?s and lead the way into the future . . . So for the rest who want to have a little fun . . post your Saturday weight then your Monday?s after you have emptied yourself and let see how we do. . . now JK going to Mom?s this weekend up North and she has vowed to have her son set the bar at 9 pounds so you better start eating because it seems that is all we do when I go up there and my family is well on the larger side at the best of times.
Now much like JK with the extreme weekends I too was hoping to keep two pounds of my 7 . . . well unless I loss a Hell of a lot in the next 24 hours before I weigh myself tomorrow morning I should be up 2-3 pounds . . . given the extreme weekend might not be for everyone but for myself I am fuller than before, more energy, more strength and over all just a better well being . . yup could be all in my head but at this stage of my training anything that pushes out another rep is worth it for me as I know even if I gain some fat along the way I can lose it no problem. For the Nationals I dropped 23 pounds over 10 weeks and for me this is about the norm. Mind you I came in super ripped to a PL meet but eh lifted enough to prove my worth on the Platform so all is good.
The only thing I find at 4500 for me I bloat a bit by the end of the day but I seem to bloat normally so I never worry about it. But by morning I?m back to normal and looking full and good . . I think this is mostly because I drive for a living and everything just sits there as I ingest my 3 meals over the course of my shift.
All the best guys, enjoy the weekend and I?ll try to post if Mom?s internet is not down again . . . Let the carb ups begin in just a few hours gentlemen . .

I don’t know what’s wrong with me this week but I’m very much Jonesing for my pancakes, I can’t wait until tomorrow morning. The other great thing about carb-up weekend is it seems like I can feel the insulin response that the doc talks about. After just a few hours my muscles feel so full, it’s rather awesome. I read somewhere that doing some posing is a good way to help get nutrients into your muscle and I think I’m going to try and do some posing Sat/Sun. Not that I really know how to do it pro-style but just to do it should have some benefit.
Rrjc- being on low carb ive found that knowing how to cook really makes a difference between sinking and swimming. There was this one dumb bitch on YouTube bragging that she lost 20 pounds  in 2 weeks on Atkins, only problem was that the only thing she was eating was meat! Good luck keeping that up. So knowing what you are doing and ways around stuff is really key.
Personally I am going to stay away from all nuts, fruit (except maybe a couple tablespoons lime juice and half an avocado and a bit of tomato). This is what you do on Atkins induction. Then with the other non-starchy vegetables I am gonna be free with them however I like and this will probably keep me around 30 carbs a day, low but out of ketosis. I don’t want to count anything at all, Atkins makes you feel guilty for eating half a goddam green pepper.
Another good breading actually is crushed up pork rinds (best for baking as it doesn’t stick well)
For mashed potato, steam and mash cauliflower with some butter, garlic and then top with melted cheese and maybe some green onion.
Rice - grate cauliflower on a cheese grater
90% dark chocolate, a square only has a few carbs in it. You get used to the taste. Not gonna do this personally but get my chocolate fix from protein shakes.
Cinnamon pork rinds - lay a bunch on a plate and pour melted butter on them. Mix 1 pack of splenda and about a tablespoon of cinnamon and then sprinkle that on. Put in a bag and shake it around.Â
Clean Carb up day plans
2 sweet potatoes
Shit load of fruit
Shit load of nuts
Oatmeal
Yogurt
Tomatoe sauce
Kinda healthy corn chips
Dirty carb up day (1 a month)
Same as above +coke, chocolate bars, huge fried panzerotti and maybe an ice cream cone.
JK29 wrote: @Quadzilla4425: How do you cook your pasta?
Well while the water is coming to a boil I added some EVOO. Once its boiling I add pasta and boil this its the texture I like. Then I drain it and rinse it under cold water. I then add more EVOO & butter to the pot and then place the pasta back in. Once again warm it up while stirring everything in mushrooms and/or alfrado or pasta sauce.
When it’s hot I slop some of that yummy stuff on a plate and add pharm cheese and mow down.

Where’s everybody’s Sat weigh-in’s at?
I weighed in this morning at 213.6lbs. Let the games begin.
OK I am going to use my Friday’s weigh in at 161.2 because I left for up North after work and had to have an ice cappachino to keep me awake for the 4 hour drive. Now in saying that my weight has been 161.2 for the last 2 days dead on so I honestly can’t see it being that much different this morning but I couldn’t weigh myself first thing this morning because as soon as I got in the house I had a super shake at 745 AM (I was starving nothing open up here at night) and forgot to strip down and weight myself right there in front of the family lol
So can I still compete? . . if so Mom is already thinking of ways to stuff her son like the Christmas turkey . . .
So I started the AD on Wednesday, I want to make sure my carb ups start on a Friday or Saturday but 12 days from Wednesday would be Sunday. So does anyone see a problem with going the extra few days before the first carb up?

Hell yeah, can’t do this without you. Can’t imagine one drink makes that much of a difference.

BTW Jaynick are you more a BB or a PL . . however, at 213.6 I don’t think anyone would argue with you one way or another . . good for you buddy
Well, I’m a 213 at about 15% BF, so it’s not great. If I could get down to 10% I’d be thrilled.
I don’t know where I associate myself to be honest. I have two goals this year strength goal in getting my BP to 300 and OHP to 200 and I’m very close on both. Second goal, I’m also trying to improve my body comp and get the BF down but I’m not overly concerned about size, the size will come with strength gain. I followed JW’s 5/3/1 for about 5 months last year before getting interested in CT’s HP Mass and SH Complex but the volume just became too much for my joints and I’m back to 5/3/1. Classify me how you will… LOL!

I don’t think there would be a problem, you’re just going to feel like absolute ass by the time you get there.

I see no problem extending the break in phase as I did the same thing when I started. I went 15 days to set the schedule right.
