An Uncommon Pursuit

I don’t know what my excuse is either not solong ago 8 years? I guess that is long ago.
I could rep 275 ass to grass for 20.

Yesterday I couldn’t do 185 for 20 go figure.
I am de-trained you shouldn’t sweat it,
its just time with the numbers.

How tall are you 6’2" you look pretty tall
I’m 6’ even. 5’ 11" after working out.

But you have a 6’5" dudes legs.

tell me about it… I wear pants with the same inseam as my father used to. And he was 6’6".

At about 5’6" I dont have that problem.
30" inseam is usually enough.

Id like to say it helps with squats,
when I figure out where to train with a rack
we will see.

I do have big guy hands and forearms.

Looks to me like you’re going to be extremely busy for sometime. The transition from lifting heavy shit to lifting really heavy shit. Is going to be very interesting to watch.

It’s even going to be better cause we get video’s and popcorn. Good luck on the technical side of your sport. Stay focused Bro you’re about to get a lot stronger. Right on!

It’s pissing me off. 345 is not that heavy. I should be doing 400 as a regular thing, rather than it still being a goal I’m trying to attain.

There’s a ton of 165 lbers doing 10 rep sets @ 365, so what’s my excuse.
Paraphrasing a good friend of mine: “Let your anger flow through you. It will make you strong, Luke.”

Well, ignore the Luke part. I feel the same way. I can’t believe I’m only squatting what I am.

So instead of getting hot, I should get Luke-warm.

Wait…what?

Starting next session I start alternating an upper lower split.

Day1
Bench 3x3
Row 3x6
OHP 5x5 (light)
pullups 5x5 or 3x8 (light)
Triceps (volume)

off

Day 2
Squat or box squat 3x3 or top 3-5
some unilateral work 3x8-12

off

Day 3
Overhead press 3x3
pullup 3x3
bench variation 5x5 (light)
Row 3x8-12 (light)

off

Day 4
Sumo DL to knees 5x5
Romanian DL 3x8-12

off

rinse and repeat.

Eventually I’m going to go back to the routine I had before the comp but this looks to be interesting. the full body stuff is wearing me down. and I want to be fairly fresh on the lower body days.

Does this mean you’ll train only every other day? Sure you can live with that?

I find that if I douche on my days off it keeps me pretty fresh, lol!.

Have you decided on your next comp yet? I am going to try and find one between now and August, but they are few and far between up here, and I have to join a “federation” apparently.

“Douche. or douche not. This is no try!”

No. I’m not in a hurry to do one, either. I have my little goals I want to reach. I’ve been trying for two years to get there, reckon I’m going to buckle down and pack on some more weight and reach them. One I achieved already - a 500 deadlift. I feel really close to getting a 400 squat having done that 385 before the comp. I still want to bench 300 and overhead press 200.

This is beginning to turn into a Star Wars parody thread…

Ah, but you forget the extra GPP workouts on the “off” days. And abs, too. ANd all those recovery workouts that can be done.

Amusing, this is not.

Or as Chewbacca says:

“Waaaaauuuuuurrrrrraaaaaanggghhh!”

I’m looking forward to more competition reports from both of you.

Weight: 185

Overhead press
115x5
145x5
165x3
175 3x1
165x3

There’s a sharp cutoff point on these. 170 I can do a triple, but at 175 a single is tough.
Comes off the shoulders really well, and the lockout is what takes the most time.

Pullups
BW 5x5 (10 sec between sets)

These didn’t feel good at all. Hurt up into my armpits so I stayed light

DB Floor Press (neutral grip)
75’sx5
95’sx5,4,3x5

Whereas these felt amazingly good.

1 Arm DB row
125 3x8 These hurt on the right middle back. Good sign that the muscles are firing.

JM Press
145 3x8

Pretty decent. I’m a little fried, but some food will fix that.

That is interesting about the weights on the overhead press, but looks like you are getting some good mass in there.

How 'bout cutting one of the warm up sets out, warm the tris up with some cable pushdowns first, perhaps do 145 for 3, then 165 for 3 to get the CNS going and then right to the working sets… bet you will get a few more reps at 175 or heavier. Just thinking outside the box here.

Strong work skid. I am also 6’ even, but I was blessed (cursed) with a long torso supporting a large belly, with short legs and little t-rex arms. Great leverages for squat and bench, pretty painful for deadlift.

All Hail the Magic Marching Powder!

OHP is looking good
