An Uncommon Pursuit

no disappointment from the swamps Skid. You went and gave it a go. You know what you did wrong. I’ll bet the next one will go better. I’m looking forward to the next training cycle. [/quote]

No kidding. The key is getting a line on succeeding, and keeping the right attitude up.

You did good on both accounts, next year you will kill them.

Back feels good today. I’m pretty sure it the intensity AND the volume of lower back work I was doing that was crippling me. I can do one or the other, but not both before crashing and burning very soon.

Skidly, are you stil planning on doing Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1? He favors the overhead pressing and alternating sq/dl. I’ll try it some day, but for now, I would miss taking it easy on the DE days, cuz he doesn’t do them.

Your overhead press is bigger than mine. Bastard.

I’d like to try that one eventually, but I’m doing a home grown thing - at least this week.

I’m operating on a theory that I have crappy recovery capacity. So I’m going to be doing minimalist training. Not too much each session, but a lot a of sessions as heavy as I can go. Back off when I feel too stretched out, either via a true deload or go halfway down the previous wave and work back up.

I did PR sumo DLs last night and I feel great today rather than creaky and broken, but it’s only been two training sessions. Squats tomorrow and we’ll see how it is after 4-6 cycles.

There’s a theory floating around that OHP poundage is positively correlated to pulchritude. Not bragging here, I’m just sayin’…

'Course, the existence of Vinnie Dizenzo and his 405 strict press in competition blows that idea away.

Tuff break on the squats.A set back is a set up for a come back!Steve Goggins said that and I agree.Hang in there and my best to you.

I like that. Only quitters fail.

Thanks JT.

I’m all set to train again. I’m actively holding myself back from my garage gym right now.

This is a good sign.

I got to learn me some of them big words. Looks like you are rebounding stron Skid

Thanks j_willy. I’m hoping I can catch my bench up to yours.

That will be easy for you Skid. I’m foundering of late.

I’ve been reading on several threads how beat up you are. I think the Wendler book would be a great buy for you. His volume is low and may help keep you healthy while making gains.

Definitely not true. I can’t OHP worth…squat.

Guess I’ve been whining.

I actually bought the 3 days a week book a while back, but I’m trying to see how clever I am right now…

If it turns out that I’m not so clever (a likely consequence), then Wendler becomes my guru.

I hate volume. What does pulchritude mean? I’m too lazy to google it.
OL

I didn’t call you a whiner. But you did call me a butterball.

No - I called me a whiner. And I did call you a butterball, but only in the most affectionate tone I could muster. Really.

Pulchritude means beauty. It a particularly ugly word to describe a sublime condition, which tickles my sense of humour - such as it is.

And what’s up with the spell-checker using British word spellings?

they bought the wrong software module…for the spell checker…

pulchritude meant voluptuous?
whats going on here skid…

Skid,

  1. Wish you would have said something at the meet, we could have screamed at you during your squats…as it was I was busy trying to get my head together and help out our other guy who was competing. Sorry we did not pay close enough attention to what was going on. I jumped the rack command on my first squat too…

  2. The Wendler set up is nice for us older guys. I know for me, it has forced me to take the deload weeks, which really helps me out. That, and it’s easily adjustable to how you feel, somedays, I just hit the main lift and maybe one accessory if I am feeling beat. If you are getting beat up a lot , I would recommend trying it out for a couple of cycles. I use the stretched out method with only 3 w/o’s a week so I can still hit events on the weekend. So it’s 4 weeks of workouts, then a deload week. So far, so good.

good luck

Mark
