An Uncommon Pursuit

This was redlighted!

Thanks DZ. Onward and upward.

This starts out discussing raw squatting tips but really gets into the differences in training strategies between intermediate- and experienced lifters.

I didn’t see anything wrong with that. Whoa!

more box squats…

…will make your rear parts stronger.

But to what were you referring with that post?

Won’t go with my fuschia w/ peach diagonal stripes banana hammock that I like to work out in when I’m at home.

Though if the colors in the plaid match I’ll consider those.

No, absolutely No - and I mean this - NO…

Polka Dots.

Ever.

Carry on.

Sorry, skid, I was referring to the squat video. I meant box squats to help with coming up at the right place. If that was why the lift in the video was redlighted. Looked parallel to me…

Absolutely - box squats are excellent for that.

That particular fella in the video is a renowned PL’er though. My reason for posting it was that he took it nice and deep. Looked more than legit to me and he got redlighted anyway.

Outrageous.

Free Squat
140x8
185x5
255x3
305x3
335x3
(NOW my boss wants to have a 1:1 meeting!)
(1.5 hours later)
305x5
315x5
325x4 (lower back caved attempting rep 5)

Sumo DL 2" deficit
355 4x3 (PR reps +2 - This weight used to be my PR single)

Good Mornings (parallel, arch back wide stance, bent leg)
185 3x8

I’m still a bit fried from 20 hours in planes in a 3-day time span. None of this felt right.

Had to work out at home as I haven’t renewed gym membership.

I only have 35’s and 25’s for the big plates, hence sumo from deficit and the weird warmups.

Squat - I’m being scared of the weight. This pisses me off greatly. I can do more than this, but I get frightened for my back and that puts the brakes on. I’d have had that 5th rep at 325 but lost concentration at the bottom and got out of the groove.

Sumos - I didn’t have the right plates to make 345 so I had to do either 335 or 355. Opted for the higher weight. Getting off the floor was more of a struggle and my butt was coming up first. Getting a weird nervy twinge through the right buttock on these, so I stopped and did GMs, where I also got a weird nervy twinge. So I said F**kit and finished out the sets.

Not my best day, but I got some work in which should bear some fruit…

New goal: I want to do a triple with my competition squat max. I’m only 30 lbs away, it’s doable.

Still lookin’ good there skid. That twinge could be hips or back given your history. I don’t have to tell you to keep a watch on it.

Great goal on the competition squat!

ps - pushing the envelope on the thread title aren’t we?
;-}

It’s a combo: back and tight adductor where it attaches to the bottom of the pelvis. Once I start twinging, I really focus on form and if it’s feeling funky I’ll just stop or work lighter for more sets.

I stopped rotating my avatar and started picking on my thread title.

Miss leading title. I was expecting to see an eight pack with 1/2 inch deep cuts. I am disappointed, what ever will I do.

Tough it out, camper. LoL

My old gym which was in danger of closing down has been bought by new owners. They are buying new, as yet unspecified, equipment. I’m greatly hoping that they decide the gym needs a couple of power cages…

Tape a note on the front door, to the New Owners “This gym desperately needs a couple of power cages”. Then fake fifty signatures.

Can’t hurt!

I LOVE the power cage in my gym…it’s great to use with my inversion boot tricept extensions…unless some assholes curling in it of course.

This last from a guy doing inverted triceps extensions in the power cage…

Lucky someone hasn’t knocked you off the perch in effort to get his shrug cage back - LoL!

I’d do 'em if I had a power cage and inversion boots, though.
