An Uncommon Pursuit

That’s a great line.

Damn, Skid you know how to put a damper on things. Doesn’t look good does it?

Just call me Doctor Downer.

That’s the last time I put anything like that here, because - as I said - this is not the appropriate forum for it.

That’s the reason I never post over on the political forum. Somebody always gets pissed off and the name calling starts and that’s the end of a civil discussion. Besides I could never come with a clever answer to some of the rants over there

Yeah - I customized the T-Nation interface so that particular forum doesn’t show up in my list. That way I’m not tempted to get into internet pissing wars…

Some of those other forums are brutal or so sexed up its crazy. I posted on the strength forum for awhile and stopped.

Who Shoulda won?

Redding?

Or Alexyev?

I vote Redding. Alexyev bent his knees.

I love being an internet judge.

Look at Reddings knees, too. It seems clear even from the different angles of the actual press overhead that they both use a some push pressing with some whip action (perhaps Alexyev even less of the latter). Alexyev hence won within consistent judging.

ur rong.

Just read this on Dave Tate’s log at Elite FTS:

http://www.illwillpress.com/FOR33.html

Caution: rough language.

A little something for j_willy. Unfortunately it’s in English rather than Mandarin:

http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20080904

Apart from his unconvincing take on those two lifts, Dave was looking a bit wan there.

By contrast, Louie (aka André) Simmons has this called right up your alley, Skid:

2008-9-20
Deadlifts
w/u
225x6
315x5
405x3

Elevated
465x2,1
405 2x5 (rep and set PR for this weight)

Speed Squats to box
135x3
205x3
255 8x3 (stay at this weight and get faster)

Split Squats (right side only)
130 3x5

abs

Taking a cheap PR cuz I’m tired of not getting any. DLs off the boxes is harder for me than off the floor. the first 405x3 was pretty easy and fast. The one’s off the boxes were neither easy nor fast.

I derived no humor from this as I am a geeky guy using linux and don’t have the appropriate decoders to see this video. And I was telling the truth: Dave Tate DID post a link to that little movie in his log.

So neener-neener to you, Mister “I-live-in-France-and-can-bench-more-than-you”…

This is kinda nice.

Go away for a couple of days and you kids get into trouble. Can’t play well together. Great vids, argument shows why they dropped the Military Press from the Oly competitions.

That was impressive.

Sorry, Skid. I thought you were using a computer.

PR looks real good from here. Any particular rationale underlying the speed sets coming after the DLs?

Hey!

Actually - it’s a personal failing as I haven’t bothered to install the necessary components. It was funny, though, even without the video. I just had to be a smartass.

Cuz my coach sez so. I’ve read it should be otherwise, but it seems to be working all right…

I guess so. I think it was actually one of the last weightlifting competitions that included the press.

I’m kind of surprised that Crossfit is bringing back the press for their strength competitions. I think that they are going to have the same judging difficulties, especially since Rippetoe is teaching “the whip” to potential competitors…
