Damn Skid, that’s a strong clean. I think you are looking good for your meet.
Thanks JW.
It’s going to be nice to know how my son feels when he competes. It’s never been just me in competition. I’ve always been part of a team. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do.
Interesting point Skid. I have always been a football guy, buried in the o-line. Other than the intra- gym contest I participated in I have never done individual events. I know it takes a different mindset.
Plus for me, all your “warts” are exposed. Nothing to hide. I guess that is why I’m always envious of the guys and ladies here that compete in golf, track, lifting, martial arts, etc. It takes balls…
“nothing to hide,” indeed. Especially with those singlets you have to wear…
Thansk DZ - same back atcha. I’m as strong as I’m going to be. Tomorrow’s the day I work up to my openers and then somehow keep myself from going kookoo with not training the rest of the next week.

A good day hitting your lifts bro! You have trained hard.
Dunno 'bout the pics. I’m going solo on this one since my son has an in-house meet the same day for his gymnastics-level eval. The meet is to determine whether he’ll compete this year at level 4 or level 5.
I’m pretty sure he’ll do level 5, since he’s gained a slew of new skills in the last couple of months. Really a series of breakthroughs for him, the biggest being the round-off, back handspring, back handspring. His pommel horse and baby giants on the high bar are improving too, along with his parallel bar swing to handstand.
yeah. I’m proud of him. A bit.
He found out about a week and a half ago that I’m competing that same weekend and it’s changed his viewpoint a bit of me some. I think he’s feeling not so alone on meet prep and competition nervousness and the like.
That someone else in the family understands how he feels. It’s part of why I’m doing this: I want to understand some of what he goes through for his comps.

Testing Day
Squat
barx12
135x8
185x3
225x3
265x2
305x1
345x1 Solid rep, mighta been high
Bench (all reps paused)
Barx10
135x5
165x3
195x2
225x1
245x1 (opener - This went up really fast and easy
So…)
255x1 (lost the groove but it went up pretty easy too.)
DL
225x3
295x3
365x2
405x1
445x1 (This was slower than I would have liked. Wasn’t mentally prepared when I started the pull)
Ukrainian DL
125 2x20
Dimel DL
205 2x20
Machine Flyes
180 2x10
Think I’m set. Hit all my openers solidly. Rest eat and sleep from now until next Saturday. Maybe some low intensity GPP stuff.
Note: For all practical purposes Ukrainian DLs are just pull-throughs. And Dimel DLs are just fast, high rep Romanian DLs.
edit: Wore my singlet under the shorts and t-shirt to get the feel of being in it. The boys don’t have much room and the sides poof out and I look like a black and white toothpaste tube with arms, but it’s all manageable. So much for vanity.

Nice! What are you going to open with on the bench now that 255 went up alright?
Looks like you’re ready. Get in some distraction over the next week so you don’t over think things. First meet so learn what you can to be better prepared for the next one. All of us are pulling for you.

Thanks a bunch Hel. That means a lot. I’ll do my best.

I am dismayed.
What happened Skid? Did you get zinged? Or just tried to have a serious discussion in GAL? (re: kettlebells)
