Ammonia Release and High Protein Levels

KMC,
I would definitely say I’m not taking in enough greens. My diet is very clean minus that. Typical day looks like this.
Breakfast
8 egg whites 2 yolks / 1 cup of oatmeal with 5oz. of fruit
Mid morning
Protein shake - 1 scoop of ON Whey and 1 scoop of Muscle Milk. 2 salt free rice cakes
Lunch
1/4 lb of chicken breast / 2 pcs of wholewheat bread / 1 small apple
Mid-Afternoon
1 banana and 3 tablespoons of salt free natty peanut butter
Post workout
1 scoop of ON Whey and 1 scoop of Muscle Milk with creatine / 1/2 cup of oatmeal
Dinner
9oz ground turkey and 1 - 1.5 cups of broccoli

So as you can see I’m definitely lacking in the greens department. Can you recommend a good greens supplement? I have a real hard time getting veggies down. It’s all I can do to eat the broccoli.

Hey NC

I have used greens plus and one from whole foods that was pretty good. I forget the name of the one I picked up at whole foods.
Biotest has one called Superfood,I dont know too much about it.
Greens plus has been around along time and it worked for me

the greens have helped me with “regularity” if you know what I mean as well as combating some BO

you are getting some fruit maybe add some spinach or other leafy type things some tomatoes here and there, and an avocado will help if you wanted to boost some fats. I do fresh juice sometimes too But if you are avoding carbs you might have to
choose low GI veggies and fruits.
Huge energy boost and a great detox Like beets, spinach carrot
or parsley ginger carrot.

For me I am not so big on supplements, just not my thing.
( I really only do fish oil , greens and the occasional pw shake)
I find when increase my protein- I have to ramp up on veggies vs carbs as well.

good luck

I love this site I have notices this a couple of times in the last two weeks when i work out, a real potent sour smell. i have been upping my protien over the last two months. Is there a chance that my body just has to get used to the higher protien and then the smell will go away or should i look to do something about it now.

Also its been a while since that last post so can some of you guys let me know how those changes in diet (increasing green veggies, carbs or fat) worked for you and if you’d recomend giving it a try.
i think my dietary fat levels are high enough.
thanks guys I’d realy apresiate some feedback and to get this thread going again

Not good. Drink more water to flush out the ketones. Bump carbs or fats up alittle.

He already drinks over a gallon a day and this is not abnormal. This is a common occurrence in those who take in high protein daily and lower carbs. Taking in more carbs would do more to eliminate it.

Many bodybuilders experience this when dieting due to the dietary changes.[/quote]

Agreed, I posted about this a while ago. Higher carbs on training days, especially pre and during taining, reduced it.

I get this if I don’t if I don’t ingest starchy carbs. I experimented with a few dietary changes to see what got rid of the smell (more fats, more starches) and more starch made the smell go away. Probably has something to do with using protein for energy, just a guess though.

more vegetables, more fiber, more fat calories oompared to protein

Tried more carbs pre training.
FIXED
Thanks guys
