Does this include going to company X-mas parties and making a complete ass of myself?

The tryouts to be a contestant/gladiator are long over.
In fact, I believe they finish taping the first season this week.

I tried out in September.
The physical tryout consisted of 3 parts:
pullups- as many as possible in 30 secs
Squat thrusts/ladder run/shuttle runs- timed
40 yard dash

The 3 parts took place consecutively with almost no rest in between them.

Immediately following the 40 yard dash you meet with a producer who is trying to ensure that you have a personality.

The following day I received a call setting up a filmed interview at NBC studios.
Once again they wanted to see your “amazing” personality.
After the interview, the producer told me to make a 5-10 min videotape showing what a typical day of my life looks like. This was a major pain in the ass.
I made the tape showing my friends, job, working out etc.

A month passed and I heard nothing so I figured I was out of the running…but then I received a call from a producer asking for MORE footage.
I sent in another tape and then never heard anything after.

I hate the fact that the home videos play such a huge role in determining the contestants. I feel I was penalized for not being a film major. The producers also give almost no direction as to what to film…They simply said things like show us “You”.
I guess “I” wasn’t cool enough!

So basically what you are saying is that it is just like any other game show on tv right now, all they want is the people that are going to go on tv and make fools out of themselves. I can understand this when it comes to shows like deal or no deal, but American Gladiators? Come on. If I remember right (I don’t get ESPN Classic) the only time they used to interview the contestants was at the very end and they would give a brief bio of them at the beginning.

Based on your report, I am betting the show is going to suck. Too much emphasis on “personality” and not enough on athletics. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Deal or No Deal and American Gladiators are both produced by the same company…Reiville (sic?)

Can guys compete against the girls? That would rock.

I think the show is gonna suck. You know how many great reality shows have been ruined by the simple fact that they let the contestants speak? All of them. Ulitmate Fighter would be awesome, but instead some jerk-off thought it would be great to put mic in the house so we can hear what the fucktards have to say. Now they’re going to do it again. So many shows would be so much better if they stopped letting folks talk and set the show to a soundtrack by Blacksabbath.

Yay!!! Family Drama!!! Or in other words MTV’s REAL WORLD meets FEAR FACTOR.

8 Gladiators — Cool
Challengers given time to train — Awesome
Glimpse of their Personalities — NO NO NO. BAD. BAD TV EXECS. All we want is BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS. and extra training tips.

This will probably be another reality show better watched muted with Paranoid playing in the background.

1 hour away. I can’t wait to watch it.

8 minutes in and this show sucks. Too much drama, and since when could you shoot the ball in powerball?

So far I like it. I’m tivo it now and watch in later with no commercials.

Yea, shooting in power ball is REALLY lame IMO.

Mike O’Hearn (Titan) just tackled a guy and humped his face while he was trying to get up.

I LOVED the old American Gladiator, especially watching it the past few years on ESPN Classic. It was funny because of the characters (Malibu was by far the best in that regard) and also had enough testosterone and action to keep it interesting.

So far in this one, however, it just plain sucks. They’re trying to mix some hardcore aspects in with the original stuff (one-liners after a competition, posing, stupid names, etc) and it just seems stupid. In addition, there’s FAR too much ‘dead air’ (everything that doesn’t include a competition): interviews, profiles, etc…It’s been on for almost 25 minutes and there’s been about 2 minutes of competition in all.

All that said, I’ll probably still watch it because it’s better than alot of the other crap on.

LOL, Toa just put some voodoo spell on the competitor. 2 injuries so far. What was up with the announcer when he was talking about Crush “I wonder what else she likes to do for fun” lol.

I can’t believe they let that skateboarder guy on the show. It is completely obvious they are going for the flamboyant personalities without regard to athleticism.

“WHERE YOU GOIN?! WHERE YOU GOIN?! NOOO WWHEEEERRREE!!!”

The skater guy is annoying as hell.

Not impressed with this show.

That Eliminator with the women was HILARIOUS!!! First the Asian woman who, after swimming 20 feet and climbing up a 30 foot rope looked like she was ready to absolutely die on the spot. I’m sorry, but you’d think they’d get people with some stamina if they were going to make the Eliminator more difficult. Then, the poor woman who was ahead and just couldn’t get to the top of the treadmill-thing…she gets passed by the Asian woman (who was about a minute behind at one point), then she’s just lying there for about 3 minutes, trying to stand up and falling flat on her face time and again. The rest of the show has been disappointing, but this finish was well worth it.

Anthony the Firefighter sure fills out those red pants nicely!! Sahweet

I love Italians.

Skater boy has some pretty cool tats. But that’s about it.

Hey, isn’t Toa in a suppliment ad in most of the muscle magazines?

Holy crap…who is the little Asian kid competing?

The guys weren’t much better, the red guy almost lost a 16.5 second lead!

And look now! We have a 5’7" 155 lb chinese guy. This show has now turned into comedy.
