1100 lb raw total at 16yrs, This lift according to USA Powerlifting stats has you ranked. As long as your lifts are legal you’ll win your age group at any PLing meet you enter. This will all mean nothing in 10yrs mind you if you don’t keep lifting hard. As far as member’s trying to bring you down, none of them have a 1100lb total, should give you a chuckle at 16

This is the most important piece of information you could possibly take from this thread.

Well I don’t know who you’re referring to specifically, but there are many people in this thread with a much higher total than that. Maybe you didn’t consider them to be bringing the kid down though I dunno.
csulli, you know your shit, I know that, don’t know about to maney other’s, but 1100lb raw total at 16, is freakish. he’s a big kid, so that helps, but in 20yrs of strength coaching HS age athletes I’ve only seen this twice. One of them went on to wrestle for team Canada. OP’s on track with proper workouts to have a 1500lb total at 18, thats elite.
Everyone on this websight left HS with an Elite total I guess, it starts to wear me down all the bullsht. Csulli, I’ll bet you nobody on this post, besides you and me-benches 300–squats400–deadlifts500, raw, and drug free, and if there is possibly someone that can manage this, do you think they were doing it in highschool. Why bash this kid.
OP your strong, yes, but you need to find a proper lifting coach, and do somthing with it. I do this for a living, and at your age with proper training, gains of 20% a year are possible, you need to milk this, because you have the chance with work to be great at somthing. Tune out negative people, they’re everywhere, claiming to be great on the internet. Goodluck
After my rant, I scrolled up the thread, and saw Tim’s name, pwnisher, heavytriple, hungry4more, so consider yourself excluded from rant. Were talking about a young teen here, and it’s hard to compare with adult PLing numbers. The reason I went off is because this is the exact age bracket I work with, and this is rare. Hell these number’s are rare from most comercial gym guys out there
IF OP does lift these numbers then it is freakishly strong for a 16 year old. However, I remember when I was 17 I thought I benched 110kg (~250lbs) but looking back I wasn’t benching to my chest, similarly with my squat I thought I was squatting 160kg but nowadays (now 24) I would only count it as a half squat.
As has already been said OP needs to stop seeking validation on the internet whether he lifts these numbers or not. Remain humble, be consistent and whatever your numbers now you’ll end up being a lot stronger than the average guy if you continue to train sensibly for the next 8 years.

For what it’s worth H4M and pwnisher and heavytriple are way stronger than me haha (I’m not sure about anyone else in the thread besides Tim of course, so no offense meant!). I didn’t even lift in high school lol! So he’s got a ton of potential and a good strength base to build upon.
I see what you mean about negativity. He shouldn’t let that get to him. On the other hand though the very nature of this thread is a bit worrisome. I get annoyed seeing people post thinly veiled brag threads seeking approval from randos on the internet. He needs to lift for something much more meaningful than that.

Brag threads seeking approval from randos on the internet is the only reason I lift and I am doing ok ![]()
OP, your numbers are strong for your age and weight. But you knew that before you posted this thread. I think some of the criticism you got was from people that knew that you knew it was good and wanted to see how you would react when they said it wasn’t. You predictably came back and claimed how good it really is, thus proving that the thread was pointless ego masturbation to begin with.

I Bench 300+, Squat 400+, and Deadlift 500+ raw… But I use drugs so I lose… Damnit * hangs head in shame*
Me as well Reed, lol, but thats not the point, it’s that everyone here benches 500lb. Youtube vids of geared, and juiced PLer’s doing 3000LB totals, I think has tilted people’s perspective of strong, (in my opinion) In the real world 1500lb total is strong, and rare, even for a man thats been training for awhile.(just not on Tnation I guess)
As far as the OP, were judging his strength, and actions(seeking approval) with adult standards, most 16yr are smoking dope, and riding skatboards. I’m sure he was seeking some approval, to me he deserves it, and some encouragement. 2cents, I’m done

Its cool I was just joking no I agree with out a doubt you are correct. I don’t remember how strong I was at 16 I think I benched 225 maybe, 315 high squat, and maybe 375 deadlift so he def has me beat and my respect.
Seems we get this thread once every 1-2 months. Some big strong kid in high school has a bad day at school, seeks internet validation so randos can tell him what he already knows (that he bench presses more than the assholes giving him a hard time at school). Posters point out the obvious, that OP is strong but there will always be stronger and he just needs to focus on getting stronger himself. OP gets panties in a bunch because no one blew him for his impressive 16 yo stats.

Well said.
The only reason i posted this was because i wanted to see what people besides friends and family thought. Thanks.

You can still read the forums without signing up
Mr. Henriques wrote an article on 300 lb benchers. I believe that the conclusion of that article was that 9 out of 10 people who “lift” will eventually bench 300 because that 10% will be dedicated enough to stick with it until they hit that number. The population here on T-Nation is not representative of that average population.
Given my experience with regular gym rats, a true 315 bench is probably 10% of lifters (everyone benches), a 495 deadlift is probably 5% of all lifters (because most people don’t really deadlift), and less than 2.5% of people can squat 405 to parallel or lower (most people do leg presses, or avoid the lift because they aren’t strong with it like the leg press, are afraid to do it, or they just don’t fucking understand what parallel looks/feels like).
To answer your question…to 16 year olds, and people that don’t lift consistently (the general population) you are going to be Hercules. People will likely also comment on your size. To powerlifters in general (or people on a powerlifting forum), I don’t think anyone is going to go out of their way to say a 1200 ish total is weak, because it does take some time/effort to get there, but nobody is going to really be in awe of your lifts.
You will also likely be a pretty average sized guy for a serious lifter. My own personal goal is to be able to hit 1200 without a belt with my every day lifts as a lifetime natural at around 200 lbs. After that, who knows. I feel that is pretty strong. Again, not a huge PL total or anything remotely resembling an elite lift.
I partook in a small conversation with Paul Carter on his facebook page about getting your lifting “man card.” Him and Jason Pegg made the claim that you don’t get your man card until you can conventional deadlift 405 at a bodyweight of 200+. When I asked why 400/200 they said that is was a basic and respectable number for anyone to shoot for. It seems reasonable to me.
My advice to you however is to stop worrying about what others do, you can only really compete with yourself. Find out what you think is strong and achieve that. When you get there, set new goals and keep going. The more I lift, the more I realize that it is a lifetime pursuit, not a 10 week sprint. And when you do find someone who is strong as fuck, ask them about their goals, their journey, and what they feel made them successful. You will see trends after a while, and probably make some good friends.
To illustrate my point, I was told I was “strong as a bull” for my 405 deadlift at 195 lbs pull in my college weight room one day. I later that day spotted one of my friends who benched 365 for 9 paused reps at 220 lbs pretty easily. He was a cool guy, and always took time to help me out when I needed it because he knew I was after similar goals, I was serious, and I listened when he spoke.
He got pissed when they did a 1000 lb club at our gym because people weren’t lifting with form, and just about everyone in the gym was talking shit about how strong they were to be able to crack 1000. The best lift was 1250. He did the 1000 lb club with his bench press and deadlift only while a lot of the other guys just stood there horrified. He went 0/475/650 belted.
Hope this helps you.
^^
Good post.
