alternate options for buying sled

i was thinking of asking my wife to get me a sled for GPP work and feeder work for Christmas. however, for $115 plus shipping I think there could be cheaper options. i know it was discussed before but i would like to hear ideas of constructing a similar sled and how it compares to the cost of the one Dave Tate makes. i’m also interested in sand bags, kettlebells, and other GPP things. can someone give some ideas of cost and exercise options with each. what should i get first? thanks.

This fits me too, I am all set for christmas, but my b-day is Jan. 31st, so Id love to get a sled and or kettlebells.
any ideas?

i made a sled out of an old tire. securely attach an eye bolt to the outside center of the tire. attach a 5-8 foot chain to the eye bolt. attach the middle of a 10 foot chain to the end of the other chain. attach some cinching straps to the ends of the 10 foot chain. make them open enough to put around your waist, ankles, etc. cut a board and place it in the tire and stack weight on the board. i got a tire for free. the rest came from home depot for about 20 bucks. works great and doesn’t tear up a driveway. flip the tire over if a side ever wears out. works good enough for me.

I just use a laundry basket and some lengths of rope. The plastic basket gets torn up within a few months, but they only cost about $3.

I had a mate who is a welder make up one, took a sheet of checkerplate large enough to accomodate a 45 plate, torched one end then curled it up(that is the front),welded a pole pointing straight up in the middle(thats where you put the weight),welded a metal loop at the front to attach a short length of chain with attachments at each end,and presto! All you need then is the rope, thread it through one of the attachments at the end of the chain,I tied loops at each end of the rope to put my feet through, works great.Hope this makes sense, best I can do without a diagram…

The sleds are really easy to make and I think truck tires are better for many uses. You can use an old truck tire and attach a large eyelet with strapping. Most tire repair shops will give away the truck tires because they are expensive to dispose of. The tires can always be used for flipping or chopping. In faith, Coach Davies

Try getting a pallett from a construction site. This is more of a strongman sled since you can put rocks and about anything you want on it though.

what’s an eyebolt, an eyelet, and what’s a pallet? i think i’ll go with the tire idea. flipping, chopping, and sledding would all be of great benefit to me.

A pallet is a series of boards nailed together, for lack of better terms. Picture the forklift taking things off a trailer. Construction sites usually have them laying all around because their material usually come in on them. Get em for free.
