Take from this what you wish.
I prefer to come to T-Nation to get information on how to achieve my goals.
( Primary )
Ultimately, a healthy lifestyle is the goal for me. Perhaps a Secondary or sometimes even primary goal is my goal to sports excellence.
T-Nation helps provide this along with my other sources.
In addition to those primary purposes, I prefer to come to T-Nation because I can relate to like minded individuals in respect to training, health, and sports. (Secondary)
However, I am motivated on the achievement of my goals. That being said, I seldomly involve myself in other things regarding this site. Inclusive of this would be debating to name one.
To make my point clear: Why debate frivolously to make a point of what T-Nation’s Image is?.. What women find ideal in body composition?.. Which points may be warranted or unwarranted… Who deserves praise or who does not?.. What bodybuilding is or means?.. What a person “should” be concerned with?.. What some T-Nation people are turning into or heading away from or towards?.. Attitudes toward an object (Ao), cognitive dissonance theory, etc…etc…etc…etc.
Why debate these if you are focused on the mastery of your goals and training?
I will not assume everyone is here for that reason. Perhaps some are more concerned with Belongingness than obtaining some goal or achieving something.
T-Nation Facilitates both of these consequently( not necessarily negative in nature )
I guess it depends on what you are here for. AND it does not have to be one OR the other. You could occasionally pop in to contribute.
If you are primarily concerned with your goals then perhaps the ratio could be something like 90% achievement focused and 10% on the other things mentioned above.
What started me to write this? The thread entitled “End of Cutting Pics” This 16 year old guy seems to want to become part of the T-Nation crew. He posts some pictures and some information about himself. Shortly after, it turns into debating about all kinds of stuff. Mind everyone else this guy is uninvolved in the bulk of it. (Read it to get an idea) It seems to take a lot of energy and time to counter someone elses point and try to make sure you cover your tracks or justify your view… Thus…
Why not simply say, “Well done, looking good dude, keep up the hard work. Let us know how things go in the months or weeks to come. Keep us updated. LET us know if you have any questions or problems regarding your goals… WE T-Nation can help!” Maybe this 16 year old wanted to feel welcome and a part of T with no other intention in his post. Is that bad? No…
Be helpful… Be supportive… AND at the same time if YOUR personal concern is your own achievement of something why are you not spending more time accomplishing it?
There is my 10 cents worth.
