Almost Kicked Out of the Gym for Puking

I’ve heard lots of people talk about puking during a workout (I think this is because of Arnold in Pumping Iron), but never personally witnessed anyone do it.

I am also willing to bet that Arnold was bullshitting in that interview.

If Arnold has his mouth open and not putting food or a cigar in it you better believe there is some BS coming out…HOWEVER.

IT happens. Not everyday but when people are pushing pass a pain/discomfort/rep point all kinds of crap happens. I’ve seen people get light headed and hit the mat. I’ve seen people puke. I’m one of those and people legs just go north and south and they hit the floor.

Nothing big just stuff that happens when your trying to get over a hump or do something out of the norm. OR just had to much breakfast before squating.

Haha, SN, why don’t you tell us about the first couple of times out of the monolift?

ive only puked twice at the gym, and 1 time made it to the bathroom the other time i ran outside. but, his house his rules, he doesnt want complaints or to lose customers because you coulda called it quites on rep 10 but went for 12.

my gym has also recently gotten complaints there there are too many ‘meatheads’ there and people are cancelling memberships, so the management is on our case about dropping plates and making noises that scare stepford wives. health club gyms suck…

Never said that it was hardcore but theirs always a chance it happens

it’s one of the gym with the least restrictions. We have a health club here that wont even allow hats, cut off shirts, cellphones, dropping of plates and grunting… My gym is somewhere in the middle . and the only hardcore gym closed down 2 years ago…

Hi I’m wondering if anything like this ever happen to any of you. Today I went out to do my leg workout … I was doing my last heavy set to failure … was able to squeeze a solid 12 reps out then of course… I started feeling gassy went to the nearest trash can and proceeded to shit…

Of course I workout at an average gym dumbbells go up to 125 a few powerlifters and the gym doesn’t mind noise. So alot of the fitness club ‘‘fouls’’ are allowed.

So anyway after my workout was done the owner comes up to me and says you can’t do that. And proceeds to explain to me that I cannot shit in his gym like that.People saw me and complained about. He was almost threatening me to a point of banning me. The guy has an impressive physique uses quite a few anabolic(s) and this was his response.
I asked him puzzled you know how these things go I’m sure you shat plenty of times. To which he answered to me I’ve been training for around 20 years and have competed on stage and have never shit. MY JAW just dropped to floor… has something like this ever happened to any of you … what would you do . Bare with me he has one of the only 24h gyms in town. Does this make any sens to any of you? Should I still go to his gym or start looking for a new place to lift?

FYP; you made some obvious spelling erros.

Iv came really close to puking a few times. one time i spent at least 5 minutes over the toilet gagging but nothing came up. Iv seen people puke at my gym and no one even cared except for the women. Id say if you puke then you clean it up…
I totally agree with you on that part but I wasn’t faced with many options when it happened.I would of opted for throwing out the garbage bag afterward if I knew where they store the refill garbage bags but what was I suppose to do in the meantime . Where do I draw the line between my actions and the responsibility of the gym? I don’t puke on purpose
I pay to use the facilities but I am not there to refill the spray bottles or fix the clogged toilette. Either way I fell victim to his scare tactics and apologized for my action regardless of its accidental nature. But honestly it has got me thinking into finding an other gym not because of the puking but rather the harsh and brutal reaction I got from the owner.
You might have to deal with the fact that the owner just does not like you. I’ve been to many gyms that say no chalk, Dropping weights etc and I’ve done it all. And had no one say a word to me.
Then watch someone forget to return a dumbell and watch Mgmt go ape on them.

I have puked and seen others do it. Not often enough to make a deal out of it though.

Here are some questions I have to get a better idea of what your gym is like.

Are you a big enough guy for the gym owner to take you serious? Because sometimes Big guys have a problem with people they see as posers.

You say you have bodybuilders/Powerlifters/MMA guys at the gym but the times you go what is the majority of people there? You may be going the same time as the snooty houswife/uppercrust snobs go. And upset there delicate palates.

Are you generally on good terms with the owner. Outside of billing and puking conversations do you every talk to him?
I usually keep to myself bring in my straps and my fatgrips or the manta ray and do what I have to do I am polite clean anything that I sit on never leave my stuff lying around I even reorganize the damn weight plates when some FTard leaves them unorganized and I put plates back in the rack if they are left on the bar. As for my size I am noticeable and always asked for spots by the PLS and other people attempting big lifts. ( if that answers the size question I am quite respected at my gym I don’t pose either I am very humble even offer jumps between my sets. As for my time frame I go at different hours lately. I use to go early in the morning before to get a jump start on my day but it’s just not possible anymore. The people that go at my gym vary but the majority(56% if I were to guess) tend to have SOME (BASIC) knowledge on training. The number of snooty wifey / old people type are few but they are slowly growing in numbers but they usually drop out after a while. Though the day of the puking coincided with a time were there were a few snooties and 3 semi serious lifters but it general it was a Dead time … around 11h30 AM.

I have never thrown up in my entire life because of a training session. I also know most people are not going to complain if they see you as seriously being sick and the situation is out of your control. If people complained, chances are it is because this came across as a one man show type of thing where you thought it was cool to throw up because it made you hard core.

It doesn’t.

I may get nauseated often from training (especially on back and legs day), but if I was literally throwing up regularly, I would think I was doing something WRONG, not right.

Little guys trying to act hard core in the gym just piss off people who are very serious about this.

This does NOT sound like some innocent out of control vomiting. This sounds like BROADWAY PRESENTS…BODYBUILDER WHO TRAINS SO HARDCORE HIS LUNCH IS ON THE FLOOR.
LOL no I am not one of those frequent puking types nor do I find it to be a sign of being Hardcore if anything I was a shamed of myself.

. I totally agree with the statement regarding the little guy acting hardcore. I know a few of those types.

As for your last comment I’m assuming it’s a compliment, if so thank you it was a heavy set and that last rep had a stall in the midpoint that one had me digging deep.

Puking is different then noise or chalk etc…its body fluids spewing… most people dont like to see it, hear it or smell it. So its tricky. I personally would prefer no one puke while im working out lol.

I agree with you but the only problem with puking is that you can’t control it. If it needs to go it needs to go.

No rules are stated anywhere about puking at my gym.We have a few PLS, Bodybuilders like MR NEW-BRUNSWICk heavyweight here even a scary female bodybuilder so you see I am sure a few of them puked a few times oh and a few good MMA’S guys as well… But The bathroom was not an option it was far away from the squat rack and the can was two feet away from it.
Do you just shit on the floor when that needs to come out right away also?

Seriously. If I saw someone vomiting in a public gym Id be pissed also. And no, it doesnt make you hardcore. The same way its not hardcore to puke while walking home from a bar.

No I don’t sit on the floor I usually try to catch my breath and walk it off.The only thing different this time was that it wanted to come up and fast . I also never stated that puking made you hardcore. But it will happen on many or more different occasions ( try hard running or any respectful training camp and you will soon see a few puking during runs), puking on the way home from the bar is absolutely the worse of the bunch because it’s self inflicted I couldn’t agree more with you on that one.

No puking after a hard night of drinking is HARDCORE just the kind of HARDCORE that will kill you in the end but its HARDCORE…HARDCORE CRAZY…and i’ve done that aslo.

Big difference. For me, shitting is always voluntary; I can always suppress it. Vomiting can just come out of nowhere and can’t be stopped.

It really seems like you aren’t getting that the OP had two choices: puke in the trash, or try to make it to the washroom and puke on the floor. Maybe you aren’t one of those reasonable types.

I understand well that puking cant be stopped (sometimes I feel that a shit can’t be stopped either but it seems that people have an emeregency reflex that allows it to be held forever just until you get to the doorway of the bathroom, strange how that works). What I dont understand is why someone would puke while working out. Eating bad food, fine, shit happens. But squatting so much that you actually puke is just retarded. Learn your body better, that’s what Im saying. Is grinding out those last two reps really necessary if it causes you to puke up the food thats going to make you grow? No, just rack the weight, sit down for a couple of minutes and do another set when youre regrouped.
