Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Well… damn.

Do you see a change in the way that people notice you now vs. when you were in high school? Parents, friends, family, the club, etc. How do they view you now that you’re a behemoth?

Leg pics?

Just at such. The critisim is very little, mainly people with sneaky stares. The reception is largely positive, im a nice guy (most days) and treat people with equal respect. Now my family, have their snide remarks and seem to think I’m going to the gym in stripey leotards lol.

Most def, the reason I hadnt post one was due to akward nature of taking pictures alone lol. Leg pic is coming.

Welcome aboard! You seem like a great addition.

Exciting thread, I will definitely be watching this.

Welcome aboard!

Lol, legitimately curious: what’s a day in the kitchen look like?

I imagine an unspeakable amount of food.

I can’t believe that pic with Coleman!

You need to be in a superhero movie!

Welcome aboard.

yeah the food bill around a Savage household is A real bill lol! I buy eggs by the crate. if someone showed up to my house with a dozen eggs I’ll be sad. I eat eggs, grits, lean turkey chili, cod, sweet potatoes, tilapia and usually 50 grams whey at night PW followed by white rice and flank steak. Mmmm. On other days, I might hit the mongolian grill and load up on chicken and shrimp with broccoli, onions, and carrots with about a cup and a half of steamed rice. I would go up twice but the cook gives me a dirty look so I tip him lol.

I’m very meticulous bout my training. I fix imbalamces about bi weekly. My upper chest is overdeveloped when I pop it out, made my delts disappear. My triceps also made my shoulder appear narrow so for a month ill might work shoulders twice with different excercises and intensities. I use to shrug every week but too big traps can’t throw you off too. My thighs were thick from front to back, but not very wide. I use do wide stance squats, legs presses, ect. But reading up Ive learned alot. Like Olympic speed skaters have awesome quad sweeps due to close stance that they are accustomed to. So now with that in mind, Ive switch to close stance , weigjted lunges, constant tension, and aggressive stretching. I just try to discover what’ll make me grow.

Sporting some size on a giant frame bro, much respect  i can tell you worked hard as hell to get where you are.

Now please dont take this the wrong way, you’re big - but at your height you are nowhere near filled out enough yet. Why not get to single digit bodyfat first and then work on improving your muscle quality for a while and then plan a competition cut?
I acknowledge your concern. Being as tall and and wide as I am I had to put food and work in to be thicker. I dwelled on the fact on filling out sometimes leads to permant offseason status. My physique 'though not flawless can hold its own once conditioning is nailed. Even as fat as I am I still hold onto plenty size and separation in upper lower chest, tris, shoulders and quads. Im determined not to be derailed on it.
I agree with you on the permanent off season status, we have a few shining examples on this forum. That said, you know what you’re doing so onward and upward.

I appreciate your words and concerns. You’re right making sure i’m ‘filled out’ enough is ALWAYS a concern in this sport/hobby of ours but so is conditioning for those potential stage dwellers. What the difference between the biggest motherfucker at a backyard BBQ, and a champion NPC or IFBB competitor? Bodyfat %.

Hey savage, glad to have you here.

Very excited to see how you look when you diet down. Sorry if you get this a lot, but have you considered/tried strongman? I just say that because of course that tends to reward taller folks better than BBing for obvious reasons.

Preciate you brother just like everyone else on T nation. Yeah Im aware taller bber success is not always common, but I welcome the challenge lol. Truth of the matter is, lifting and throwing and carrying atlas stones and whatnot. That shit fucking sucks! I commend those cats but having my CNS shot to hell all the time. I tried powerlifting for awhile but I have big I have big hands but a weak grip on deadlift. The bar rolls unto my fingers and can negate any lift lickity-split. When I’m strapped-in, i’ve done a deadlift @ 700 for a triple but, wraps are frowned upon. What Ive gotten alot of lately is ‘football big’ which is only flatering if it comes with a seven digit paycheck! Lol I was never pushed or recruited to play maybe if I dwell things would change, but at 28 I’d be an old man in young man’s sport. So I started lifting and made good gains alot of hypertrophy- I figured, if I’m a be big, dont be big for nothing.

You should look into pro wrestling. We could be a tag team.

Im mostly serious.

Welcome to the game! Best of luck, big guy! A ripped 250-260lbs should dominate at most local shows despite your height. Just don’t get fixed on a number, go for the look!

Best advice to any first time competitor!

One of my old training partners did his first show back in 2010, and was the tallest guy in his class. Among about 12-15 competitors he placed 6th in a very difficult show. As he was easily the tallest guy onstage (6’3), we really dialed in his conditioning, and to be honest, it’s the only reason he placed as well as he did.

If you’re going to be in the heaviest weight class (and I can’t imagine any other outcome), even though there will be some relatively tall guys there, at 6’4 you’re definitely gonna be at a natural disadvantage. While it’s waaaaaay to early to even worry about this, conditioning, and “polish n presentation” will help quite a bit. In the meantime, don’t rush to cut down. Slow and steady. Doing it right is a hell of a lot better than unnecessarily losing a few lbs of muscle.

Yeah it’ll be a battle but, a battle I’ll be ready for. Yeah slow and steady is the game, gaining or cutting. I’ve seen cats 8 weeks out doing fasted cardio on a stairmill for over 2 hours! They’d be lean but all sucked up. I’ve been doing it old school doing more ‘non-aggressive’ cardio during the off season, and its been payin’ off! Yeah tall bber have it ‘harder’ as far as thickness, longer muscle bellies, and overall pure muscle gains. I think that bbing have their good example as well as their bad when it comes to tall class. On the good end you have Lou Ferrigno, Toney Freeman (the original X Man), Ed Nunn, Cedric McMillan, and forgive me if I forgot someone. Then you got monstrosities like Kovacs who brought new meaning to monster.Unfortunetly, they’re not many if any Superheavy classes surround San Antonio. So I do what I must to show up.
