allow me to introduce myself, my name is Ian. Ive been a fan of this forum for a long time hiding in the shadows lol. this group of people on TNation are some of the most intelligent, honest, bullshit free poster ( I loved the crucifixion of Youngster btw).
anyway, I’ve been bodybuilding for about 5 years now, 3 years I’ve increase my dieting and training aggressively to the tune of varied split training. I believe in training in the way you feel is right. I tend to mashup my training with volume d heavy weights (never lower than 5) and I’ve exploded with gains. Im 6’4 320 lbs and plan on cutting to 270 lbs and competing this fall and maybe Summer whenever I hook up with my nutritionist.
My best features are chest my worst is my glutes (tall bber diease) they won’t grow for shit! My shoulders use to be real weak but im doing more volume andthey are filling out. Well I look foward to contribute to the forum, and maybe even learn a new trick or two.
I’ve never competed so take this for what it’s worth but I wouldn’t go into a prep with a hard number like 270 as your expected end goal. From all the prep threads I’ve seen guys end where they end and more worry about nailing their conditioning level.
Good luck with the prep. Did you play ball growing up?

thanks I appreciate the support. I realize the end goal weigjt may truly vary. I may end up at 260 or less, u never know til you’ve crossed that point. I use weight as ballpark measurement. Believe it or not, I was anti social and hung out with weirdos and wallflowers. Football wasnt my main thing. I didnt get big until after high school and discovered weights outta frustration

320 is HUGE! Mind giving some details on your early training years, your diet, your routine now, what kinds of weights your pushing, ect? I’m 6’2", so I’m always curious to hear about HUGE tall guys.

My early training was ass lol. Random splits no legs, that sorta thing. Then a few years back I started training a Joe’s gtm and Ifbb pro Robert Washington was personal training there. although I hadn’t gotten around to working together, he put things in perspective. First things first: food. For years, I put away ground turkey, eggs, chicken and steak like it was going outta style. After I found out what does and does not work for me I blew up. My training was, chest back arms ches,t delts legs. And now that shows my imbalances. Allwas started at free weights, train between 8 to 12 reps. Tension has always been the name of the game with me. I can bentover row 405 for 10, but realized 275 for 12 felt much better in my back. I did alot of varieties, but consistency is what paying off go to the gym, crush weights not going to failure on everything eating to support my work. Being tall in bbing sucks when it comes to squatting but I do what I have to do. another thing, form is everything. Id you dont feel it, dont do it.
Welcome aboard! Not sure if you mentioned it or not, but what weight did you start at? I’m guessing lot of peeps would like to know how much you’ve gained over those 5 years and how you did it? It will be awesome also to see your transformation during your cut. Please consider making a log or thread if you do?
I believe in if the shit dont look right, fix it. ive stopped deadlifting as often and opted for high rep weighted back extentions the pump is amazing. Even as heavy as iam, im start of my back day with pull ups close then wide grip. Id do bb rows, one arm rows, underhand pulldowns with one and a half rep pauses. And flexing my back after workouts helped my mmc.

thanks for the support! jeweleye 5 years ago I weighed 240 pounds. Now I weigh 325. I was scrawny, then fat, now muscular. how much is that was muscle? I’ll never know.
Pull ups at 320lbs?! How many do you do? And bent over row 405 for 10? Wow :o
You’re most definitely welcome, these boards can always do with more big, strong guys. And I am 6’3" and always interested to learn from taller lifters, you always looked pretty thick though. How much did you weigh in the high school pic?
